is it possible to transfer money and items between chars on the same account?
I just tried the tedious process of putting stuff up for sale on one char and then buying it on the other char, but either I messed up somehow or there's a game mechanism preventing it because it said all my stuff was bought by people who weren't me, even though I clicked on the stuff and lost the money buying it...
now neither of my 2 chars has any equipment or ships :(

*new char put up a unit of ammo for like 1.5 mil isk (my life savings from a few days) =p *old char bought it and put up the destroyer I had been flying *new char tried to buy the destroyer with the money I got from the ammo, but that's when I realized I didn't HAVE that money. I looked at my transactions and the ammo was still up for sale. decided to do an experiment. put up another unit of ammo for 10k or so. went back to the old char and bought it. sure enough, I was charged 10k but when I looked in my transaction log the money went to someone else, even though there's no doubt I bought the right item. the single unit of ammo also remained for sale even though I just 'bought' it. I tried buying it again, and again it said someone else got my 10k and the 1 unit of ammo stayed up there.

well, you got burned, there are some special rules dealing with who exactly gets to fill a buy order, regardless of what the buy agreed to pay. You would want to have someone who knows a bit more about it to explain it though.
Tough luck, you were trying to circumvent restrictions on trial accounts, and you got burned. (presumably you cannot give money because you are on a trial account)
Convo me in game, if you really are on a trial account i can probably get you going again, with no sweat off my back.
If your not a trial account, well, your dumb as a box of rocks.

yeah, someone else just explained to me that the money will always go to the cheapest seller, even if you agreed to pay more. oh well. yeah, I'm still a trial account, and it wouldn't let me transfer the stuff via contracts so I tried this :> maybe I will bug you for a few isk to get started.
ironically, the same person also explained that I should probably abandon my new char too in favor of my old char. my new char is very willpower/perception heavy because I wanted to be combat oriented, but I was informed that a more balanced approach is probably wiser.

There is an option "give money" when you right click the other char. Maybe though it doesnt work for trial accounts, i dont know. Items you should be able to transfer by contracts, however it doesnt really work for me. My alt cannot see the contracts - guess it is some bug. I heard you can fix it by sending a link to the contract by eve mail to your alt.
If you cannot do any of these while on trial and dont have any other ideas, you can put some stuff into a secure can, anchor and password protect it (dont forget) and grab the stuff with your alt.

Ok so how do you do it with Contracts? I used to use escrow and now I can't get my head around it......probably dead simple which is why I can't do it. :)

An item exchange contract with a particular user restriction sounds like the way to go.
There's a guide to using contracts listed in the sticky at the top of the page.

Up front, I'm a newbie so maybe I've missed something, but Revelations item exchange is NOT the same as old Escrow because it costs 10k isk to issue the contract. No? Please let me know if I've missed something cause I used to use old Escrow lots.

Ya, basicly it is the same but they have upped the fee from 850 to 10,000 ISK. Such is life. If you want to avoid that fee, another way would be to use secure cans. This requires that you have the Anchoring skill on one of your two characters. You must also anchor the can (in 0.7 or lower space) for the password to work, otherwise someone can scoop up the whole can with everything in it regardless of the password.
It really comes down to convience. Using a contract is quick and easy, but costs 10,000. You can resell the secure can, so it will really cost you next to nothing, but it is a lot more effort.
