wow costs $15 amonth just as eve..
but your forgetting a VERY IMPORTANT factor...
once a year blizzard releases a new expansion wich usually costs $50.
and an initial cost of a $25 battlepack..
as many AAA mmo's you will be limited content to buy expansions.
in eve all updates come with the subscription wich i prefer most.
once a year ? 50 bucks? check your facts plz.

Approximately -ú89.00 for an annual sub.
Indeed I cannot remember the price ever increasing since I joined Eve.
-ú89.00 a year is effectively free gaming.

I pay out of pocket for three accounts, so for me $36/month. I play maybe 15 hours/week, that's roughly $0.55/hour to play.
I will happily pay $50 to go golfing for four hours, or $15 to see a movie in a theater.
Anyone who complains about the price of a sub needs to get a little perspective on how cheap MMO subs are as forms of entertainment. |

Well if your gaming taste are broad, you can like both for what they are and the realise they use a pretty similar payment model. |

Any decent games off the shelves usually gets a similar hours enjoyed/$ ratio. The bonus point of MMOs is how they stay entertaining longer on average but your overall expense also gets bigger. The tricky part with non sub games is to not get burned by games you actually dislike. |

You know perfectly well that there are plenty of legal third party sites that sell game time that are not "official game sites" by the definition implied in what you quoted.. And they tend to be cheaper than buying it from the source.
It's not cool to be obtuse. I don't know why so many people in this forum insist on being just that. Well, not just here. Pretty much any English speaking forum during American prime time. It's kind of sad to see what the first world is turning in to.

As a PVE game WoW is VASTLY superior to EVE. PVE in EVE is SO horrid. I can enjoy both for different aspects of play. I can't really PVP in wow because lol he just respawns 20 seconds later and I didn't blow up his purps :(

Instead of enjoying the game, it starts to become a grind to make enough iskies for the next batch of plex. Some folks can do it much easier than others of course, but I personally like to see billions upon billions in my wallet. I'll let you know when that day happens. |

Eve expansion cost is zero. Not so for wow.

I was going to resub an account and with the convertion it works out to $20.40 CAD.
EvE is by far the most expensive MMO out there for me. When you factor in my alt accounts it can get costly.
Other MMO's out there I can still play for $15 CAD monthly.
Anyway, I do not plex, I can afford the monthly sub. My issue is why is this game so much more then others> it is hard to justify having more then 5 accounts active at times. While this is not really new, it just seems hard to swollow today for some reason.

I guess you perceive no difference between MMOs other than price.
In that case, rather than complaining about the cost of an EVE sub, go play WoW. You are a consumer, you are free to choose, you know.

Whenever I read $ CAD a penny dies in my wallet. That being said, I paid 10,95 Gé¼ way less than $20,40 CAD. 12 and a little it should be in your currency. When you just resub a single account for a month it doesn-¦t make much sense to buy a single month instead of a plex ingame except you know that you won-¦t need the account for longer than a month. At least in my book this is the truth. I think I once bought 3 month on Amazon but besides that I always bought my GT directly on CCPs site and it-¦s not costly when you buy a year.
edit: In your case it would be 700bucks a year except you have 5 accounts with 3 chars each. But even than it would not be too much for a hobby. |

I should not be posting in a necro'ed thread but at least by my reading of the OP some people have missed the point. At least how I understand it, it is not that EVE. Costs $x, but that it is different to how other products are priced of the same type.
At least as an Australian consumer I get to see this in how different companies deal with currency exchange. For digital services, some do provide a price in the local currency that is stable. This means that they absorb some risk on changes in the exchange rate, or should it change the other way, generate more revenue (we call it the Australia Tax). Others just charge their native currency and let you deal with the exchange rate.
I don't know if this is a factor in the OP, but for smaller markets around the world it can matter. |
