Im getting a 22" widescreen monitor (Sceptre X22wg)this week and would like to know if anybody plays Eve in widescreen mode with out cutting off the top and bottom of the screen.
Also does the game looked streched out?

Edited by: JaMoFo on 14/12/2006 21:42:17 Thanks, i decided to spring for a ViewSonic VG2230wm Black 22" wide for $45 more ($390). It got better reviews than the sceptre. Im on a 6yr old CRT 22" NEC, after 1-2 hours of eve my eyes are burning.
my video card is a 7900GT

Set your client to a wide-screen resolution, but *uncheck* the widescreen option.
The "Widescreen" option is for emulating widescreen aspect on a traditional screen. That option will always cut off the top and bottom.

I got a HP 22 inch, and set my resolution to 1650 x 1080
it looks like this:

So it isn't stretched, it just gives more info...

I play on a 24" Sony Trinitron widescreen CRT, and I would have to say the jury is out on stretching. While in game, if I align the camera towards the edge of the screen, stretching and warping of celestial object seems to occur... Haven't really noticed the effect on a standard 4:3 display
I'm working on it! |

That's because the engine doesn't change FOV when the aspect ratio changes.

"That's because the engine doesn't change FOV when the aspect ratio changes."
I'd guess it actually does change to match the aspect ratio, which results in covering wider arc horizontally... and as such, the edges are much more prone to show perspective distortion like described..?
(e.g. if your camera covers say, 60 degree area then the distortion at edges can be somewhat overlooked, but switching to cover 90 degree instead makes them far more obvious... it could be fixed to a degree with rendering the scene through multiple cameras each covering a smaller chunks, but that in turn would hit the frame rate :|

It's fine. The only thing changed is the horizontal viewing distance. You don't get any sort of camera distortion or anything like fisheye. ---

Eve looks amazing in widescreen and that seems to be a nice setup. There is nostrectching of the picture at all, just twindle about with your settings to create the best picture. You cant really do anything wrong at all.

Is it a TV or a real monitor?
If it is a TV you prolly cannot go any further than 1360x768, it is the maximum of your screen, the gfx card however can go much further than that...
