Hi guys, some time since I made a thread in here (got a positive sec status). Heres a litle story of what happened last night: The main system we're in was full of people, mostly bob, etc. so ratting was not advisable because people of all sec levels tend to pirate lately. I decide to move in a system nearby. After running the belts, in the very last one I get a hauler spawn, 2 wreaks full of tritanium (2M in total). I go back to base, switch to a indy (bestower with 2 nanos and thats about it).
[round 1] Back on the gate I get an obvious pirate in a domi. I jump through and quickly proceed to warp away. He barely manages to come out of cloak. [round 2] I can not take all of it and the guy seems to realise that I will keep moving through taht gate. He awaits for me on the other side. I jump, quickly proceed to warp and he starts targeting me. I managed to warp. [round 3] Tricked the guy into jumping on the other side and went back to station. Waited a little, he got bored.
This guy is a rather old player and the way he is targeting I am asuming he has good skills. Still I managed to warp in a bestower with 2 nanos. I have not realised how hard it got to untill last night. Seriously this kind of approach is not doable solo anymore unless very talented and skilled.

I really don't applaud gatecamping in any way, i still find it cheap and just too damn easy. People tend to use the old "but i gotta make a living! i'm a poor pirate!".
you know what? so am I, and i find it strange that people don't see how lame it is until they are stuck between 2 gates with 2 different pirate corps camping each gate. 0.0 is definitly more camp-war and blob-war than anything else.
such a shame, with all the people out there, it could turn into a whole lot of small-scale gang wars instead, which everyone knows is 10 times as fun.
It's still fairly easy to solo in low-sec if you're careful, but you really got to be on your toes.

targetting a nano'd hauler in a bs has always been tricky to do but is possible with a few sensor boosters. usually u would just use a smaller ship.

He didn't have Sensor Boosters, or had poor skills.
Consider yourself lucky.

As a pirate i've cruised through 40 jumps patrolling low sec system after low sec system with a feeling of invinsibility in my little thorax. I have encountered several gate camps that i've bypassed easily without a single shot being fired. Some even attempted to follow me for the several systems but they are never sucessful. I can warp into a system filled with many ppl in the same corp/alliance, pop one of their mining barges and warp to the safety of a station. His corpmates would send several ships to the stargates in an attempt to trap me but i just fly right by them and jump out. Warping to 0km has saved my butt many times. Corps that i usually **** off probably wish i couldn't warp to 0km.
Warping to 0km allows the attacker to strike the first blow and leaves the victim little chance to retaliate. Merc corps hired to kill specific targets will have an extremly hard time with their mission if their target doesn't mine or belt rat. Gate camping is pretty ineffective with the warp to 0km change which benefits both pirate and anti-pirate.

Yes, low sec gate camps have become less effective. 0.0 gate camps use mobile warp disruptors or interdictor spheres and are still effective.
