Anyone heard anything about pirate factions and Factional Warfare? I thought it would be cool if pirate factions could attack everyone exept like their ally, like Angels and Serpentis (I think?)

Join an NPC (or actor) driven corp of one of the four main empire factions.
They're at war with one of the other three of those corps.
You can't take your part if you will not leave your corp.
Your corp cannot to anything.
There might be extra combat systems like WOW battlegrounds.
Well, maybe there'll be some other implementations since the players in general have been less than impressed with the above factional war system.
I think Oveur wrote the DevBlog about that about 3-4 weeks ago.

The cause for this is not yet known, but we do have a possible fix in testing.

I was at the fanfest FW roundtable, the gist of it is that faction war will be rolled out in phases. This is being done so that the game won't be utterly wrecked if they get the implementation wrong on the first attempt, the vision for faction war is massive so it needs to be done carefully.
How much would it suck if a few major 0.0 alliances weighed in on one side and steamrollered the galaxy? Apparently 50% of all characters in EVE are caldari, thats giving Hammerhead (the dev working on this) nightmares, easy to see why!
Phase 1 will be in Kali 2 (Revelations is Kali 1). In phase 1 players will be able to join a faction war corp controlled by NPC's/actors for one of the four main Empires. These corps will each be at war with one or more opposing faction war corps. This will work just like the current CONCORD sanctioned war declarations we have now.
Player corps/alliances will not be able to join a side in phase 1, the only way you would be able to influence things is by attacking the groups you don't like in low-sec systems. You will be subject to criminal flagging but it could be done.
In phase 2 (kali 3) player organisations will be able to declare their allegiance for a faction. It sounds likely that it will still be limited to the four empires at this point.
Phase 3 builds on the above. I imagine this where additional factions will be added in along with more sophisticated features. So it could be a long wait for pirate factions while the system is built up. CCP seem to want them, but its going to be awhile.

In fact, with the search function being fairly inadequate, it'd be very nice of someone knowledgeable in the subject to put up a post (and it'd be very nice of the moderators to sticky it) with links to all the official or firsthand observer leaks on the subject...

I do believe Kali 2 is slated for Q1 2007. My guess is sometime in late February or March.

not sure where you've been, but the faction "BoB" has been attacking everyone, even former allies, so you have your answer, BoB are the faction and the pirates you were asking for.
Soon, there will be two factions, NPC corps, and BoB...think I'll just go back to UO...
