... so that T1 cruisers can't dampen capital ships and recon ships to uselessness anymore. Simply make sensor strength 10 = 100% of the current dampening effect and go linear from there (strength 50 = 20% etc.).

Interesting point... currently while its nearly impossible to jam a Titan a dampener would have the same effect as against a frigate.

Maybe if we divided sensor strength according to the number of active targets as well.
It's a give and take.
Generally, to completely sensor damp one ship into uselessness, it requires the midslots of several ships. So allowing people to get damp ganked is not that big of a faux pas in terms of balance.
In terms of very small groups, damps are well balanced, and stacking modified to boot. They don't work on the flavor of the year snipe fleets, and a single ship cannot damp a close range ship beyond all hope.
T1 EW cruisers are the mainstays of newer players and people who do not have the isk or skills to be serious dps support. Pot-shot EW is the main bane of the game right now, and they are certainly amplified by damps. There should probably be a stacking penalty for coupling sundry EW types.
It makes little difference to damp carriers, but Dreads probably should be immune to damps.

Or you could bring support.

Well, support wouldn't make much effect on the theoretical interaction of anchored sensor damp arrays and Dreads. POS seiges tend to rely on enough support as is.

Uh. Stupid alt...
And anchored batteries SHOULD damp dreads. They should also, like the guns and other offensive modules, be put outside the shields as part of an overall POS review. Also minisuperweapons for dreads, etc. etc.

Dampeners are already afflicted by stacking penalty, also dampening is not so nice and leet as u may ythink, try it. With 4 dampeners u can take his range down to about 15km what is not so good. My english bad, F1, F2, F3, F4...

It is impossible to dampen a ship to uselessness. It is fully possible to force the ship in question to get closer. If you do fit countermeasures (or more commonly functioning as "I want to lock faster" modules), you can ward yourself pretty well against sensor dampeners.
In addition to this, dampeners are effective up to around 50-60km (50% fail chance around there) and has an outer limit of 90km (90% fail chance). If you fit sensor boosters, not only will you lock further and a lot faster when not dampened, you'll also make it possible to effectively fight dampening ships.
Dampeners are a weak electronic warfare weapon. I know that from experience. They've been greatly hyped from the tournament (which was fought exactly under the conditions dampeners are good). It's unreliable and highly prone to make you vulnerable since it is very easily counterable - and the counters require little to no sacrifice what so ever. They are fine.
Dark Shikari, Titans are immune to dampeners ;) - EVE is sick. |
