I am trying to get confirmation of whether this is a bug or intentional within Eve. It is rather important for future structures and management of corps.
In theory a director can run for CEO by starting the vote, and if the vote passes, then he takes over as CEO. However the CEO can remove roles and kick a director from the corp even if that director has a large portion of the shares.
I understood that if a member has a large chunk of the shares (5%+) that a vote needs to be created to kick them, but that is not the case. Is this a bug or a change of plans?
I want to run a public company with a real board of directors. As things stand right now, the CEO has total control and could just kick everyone from the corp and control all the assets (although he would not be able to pass an unlock vote).
If someone (or a group) has the majority of the shares in a corp, even if they are not in the corp, is there anything that can be done (GM help maybe) to create a vote to run for CEO?
Thanks,

Originally by: Montaire You cant kick someone with shares.
You have to vote them out.
That is incorrect. I have tested this and you can in fact kick someone out that has shares. If this were not the case then there would be no problem.

Originally by: Herculite I'm more interested in why you keep sending me eve mails when I have no idea who you are.
If you check your wallet, you will see that you have some Eve Financial Services shares. Someone in FIX gave a lot of the members EFS shares for some reason, so that is why you get all evemails sent to shareholders.
You are welcome to give me the shares back if you like!

I'm still trying to get some sort of confirmation on this from CCP. Any ideas how to find out what the official standpoint on this is?

Petition and file a bug report. This has not been the case until recently, if at all, I have not tested. You do need to have at least 5 shares to have to do this. Also, anyone with a certain number shares should be able to run for CEO, although I am not sure if that requires 5% or 5 of the shares as well.
I tested this again, and now it does not allow me to kick any member with 5% of the shares. However the problem still is how to run for CEO if there is a majority of the shareholders that want him gone as CEO. I can only see a way of doing this if you are a director, but the CEO can remove that ability.

Originally by: Splagada Edited by: Splagada on 17/12/2006 17:23:51 your solution can be in an alt corp
an alt corp with yourself only, sending to the "shared corp" dividends and assets on demand, not all at once
the "main" corp is just a shareholder of the "holding" corp
property is safe, and the second corp can run like any other
but the bank account is safe
It has nothing to do with a bank account. It is more to do with being able to run a public investment fund with a board of directors who control all lock/unlock votes, but who can take over from the CEO if he (in this case me) does not keep to the corp agreements.

Originally by: Herculite Ah well that explains it
My first thought was 'How is this person trying to scam me'.
Far too many sceptics around here
I'm not getting any response from CCP on this despite trying to find out for a while now if a shareholder that has had his roles removed should be able to run for CEO. Otherwise the CEO still has the power to retain their position by pre-emptively removing roles from all directors.
PLEASE could a GM or Dev give me an answer on this one

Originally by: Asimov Andies I believe... could and probably am wrong though, that if you are not a director, you must have atleast 10% of shares to be able to run for CEO if not a Director. But then again, I am new so would not know. But would be nice to know an answer.
It would seem that you are correct here. Thanks!
What got me is that the vote has to be cast via the shares section of the wallet and not from the corp management section.
I'm all happy now
