I posted this in ships and modules by mistake and was waiting for the mods to move it. ----------------------------
My intitial excitement over exploration is wearing off after it has been simplified even further. In the place of excitment comes a sense of depressing inevatibility about the future of this career as I begin to see patterns in my finds already. So here are a few ideas I think would make it batter in the long term.
1: Make the new multispec probes require astro lvl 5.
2: Make loot drops and salvage in exploration sites actually worth while.
3: Make the location of sites truly random. Predictiblity is REALLY bad for this career (im talking about where they spawn most often here).
4: Make sites in heavily populated systems much more difficult to find otherwise you just see everyone popping out a multispec once a day, everything will be found instantly. These site are in danger of just becoming like regular belts etc. Oop nothig roid field today guys lets go mine it again. Lowering their sensor str would make sense. After all in heavily populated systems isnt it likely that most easy stuff would have been found already? Wouldnt Angels stealth a lookout they put up near a station?
5: Remove the current visible complexes and add them to the exploration system (or equivelents). Why? Complexes are all about camping, and because they are static people work our how to do them exactly and there is no danger. Get rid of them please! All the exploration ones disappear after being done - thats great! Hmm thats not really a problem with exploration but Its related.
6: I`ve already seen a several sites that are the same in my travels, it would be quite nice to see a random element that stops them being predictable. Preventing "Ive found site type 3 again we will need x number of ships and it will take x hours".

All plexes I've found so far (all in 0.0 space) were 2 staged combat plexes with empty red cans or without them. No reward except bounty from mobs. No escalation. Nothing. Mining in lowsec seems much more profitable for me now. Unfortunately new profession can die, because it is completely not worth it.

Anothe rpoint.
Randomize the sensor types, as it stands now peolle can race round whole constellations clearing out the type of site they want too quickly.

I agree with everything but randomizing what signature types will be what kind of site. See, randomizing is BAD. Keeping consistency is GOOD. Having things be based on player skill is GOOD. Having things be based on dice rolls is BAD. As much as it's spammed, ECM taught us all about dice rolls.
And about making it harder... in a 0.0 system it took me 3 days of 2 probes overlapping where I found a complex with NO results whatsoever, so on the fourth I made another safe to drop a probe in. After 40 minutes of scanning I found the site where 3 probes now overlapped, and with a 0.0884 sig reading. That does NOT need a nerf. -----

randomized variants within a fairly wide area will make exploration less predictable than missions but with some reasoning as well

I disagree consistency is bad, the more consistancy the more likely people are to exploit the systems and the more boring they become.
There are already exploration sites more profitable and easy than others. Now you can tell just from dropping ONE multispectral and scanning for 5 minutes. There is NO players skill there. Further more, someone with a load of these probes can race through a constellation and clear out the good/easy sites in half a day.
Also when they find these sites they no exactly what to expect so there is no risk or surprise, also bad things!

One thing that I do agree about with the OP is to raise the skill to lv V for the Multi-Spec Probes. In addition, I would like to see the DED complexes returned to their original state like they were back when Eve started by removing the "Show DED" option from the map and make them findable only by the dropped logbooks that give hints to their location. The logbooks still drop, but what good are they when you already know where the sites are by looking at the map. Another thing I would like to see added is a "Prospector Claim" option, where you can claim a site if your the first one to find it. Make some sort of trigger in the site that must be tripped by the first player there which would remove the site from all further probe scans, that way you can mine all your bistot, or hack all your cans without getting harrassed. Seems like a small reward to ask for for being the first one to find the site.
