I've been playing around with ship outfits for the hyperion, and I *think* the hyperion could be a heavy hitting sniper. True, it won't have the range of the rokh. However, with it's 8 guns and it's damage bonus, it just might be able to smoke a rokh if it can get within range.
Here is my proposed setup:
Highs: 8x 425mm Railgun II (loaded with Spike L of course) Mids: 2x Sensor Booster II or Prototype Sensor Booster 3x Tracking Computer II Lows: 3x Mag stab II 3x Tracking Enhancer II
I tested a *mostly* tech 1 version of this just to see what kind of range I had, and to my surprise, I could target out past 160km, and a prototype 425mm railgun could fire *Tungsten* ammo at an optimal range up to 150km.
Here is the setup that I tested:
Highs: 1x 425mm Prototype 1 Gauss Gun 2x 425mm Compressed Coil Gun 1 2x 425mm 'Scout' 1 Accellerator Cannon 3x 425mm Carbide Railgun 1 Mids: 2x Prototype 1 Sensor Booster 1x Optical Tracking Computer 1 2x 'Orion' Tracking CPU 1 Lows: 1x Power Diagnostic System I ( I need some ranks in advanced weapon upgrades ) 2x Tracking Enhancer II 3x Magnetic Field Stabilizer II Ammo: Tungsten Charge L
I did a damage test agiainst a rokh pilot with lvl 5 in caldari battleships, and lvl 5 in large hybrid guns. I only have lvl 3 in each of those skills. his shields were going down faster than mine, which surprised me because rokhs seem to have a much better base shield tank than a hyperion.
I haven't played around with the rigs yet, perhaps they can boost it's targeting or optimal range a bit?
You'll need a few ranks in Advanced weapon upgrades to fit all of the guns, but you shouldn't need any powergrid enhancing modules. Some skill levels in Information Warfare should help to boost your optimal range, and popping some frentix boosters should give your guns a good boost in optimal range as well.
I'm new to this whole sniper thing, so could I please get some advice?

Edited by: Ishina Fel on 16/12/2006 12:10:36 If your t2 setup there fits, then that Hyperion will indeed make a decent sniper. 160km is quite enough for most scenarios.
Regarding the Rokh - yes, it has really lousy damage. The reason why people call nerf at it is because it can outrange other ships, not outdamage them

Edited by: Disgruntled Postman on 16/12/2006 12:25:32 Edited by: Disgruntled Postman on 16/12/2006 12:20:12 I've checked the fitting requirements, and i'm 99% sure that this T2 setup will fit, but you'll need engineering 5, electronics 5, Weapon upgrades 5, and Advanced weapon upgrades to about 2 or 3.
Unlike the megathron, the hyperion has CPU to spare and just barely enough powergrid to pull this off.

Buy a Rokh if you want to snipe. There is no substitute.
A rokh will never be fighting you inside your puny 160km range(what a noob rokh pilot has with t1). He can lock faster, hit harder and more often and tank better than you ever can while sniping.

tbh the mega makes a much better sniper for a lot less money. ur kinda wasting a big bonus that makes the hyp so good which is it's tank and the mega tracks much better.

Don't use that many tracking enhancers/comps, they are hit with stacking penalty.

3 sensor boosters II not two, 2 tracking comps II, 3 MFS II and ONE tracking enhancer (not 3 comps and 3 enhancers), damage control unit and then free low of your choice : second enhancer (if you must, but as its the 4th mod its heavily penalised), EANM II, 1600 plate, repper for when you've warped out, backup array (these blow tbh, I use midslot ECCM or none at all).

According to Quickfit, a Hyperion with perfect skills and 3x Sensor Booster IIs can target out to 245km . It also has the second best targeting speed of any battleship, the Typhoon is the fastest.
It's optimal firing range seems to top out around 185km though . Damn that T2 long range ammo nerf. There has got to be a way to stretch those guns out to 250km, or at least 245km. Any suggestions?

Just need 3x sbII and it's ok. But I still prefer mega. Or any amarr bs -------- The BoB model is bad for business. Incidently the BoB model is more suited for a game such as WoW where as the ASCN model more suited for Eve.

nope, that was their intention. only the rokh can reach those ranges now.

drop the 3 tracking enhancer II's, and put a light tank in there. they get hit with the stacking penalty o hard it is not funny. the hyperons strenth is its damage, and it can tankwell also. remeber, at sniping ranges, the rohk is NOT tanking any, if at all. it has serious pg issues with a full rack of 425mm tech II's so it is not going to be running an active tank for long. It also bleeds cap firing that many guns.

replace 2 low mods with 2 RCUs, then apply high skills along with 1-2 hybrid range rigs. Tricit's dreamy ship statistics. PICTURES SOON MAYBE!!! (NOT YET, but they are drawn) |
