This game, flat out, has more potential than any other game in the world.
More than any other MMO especially this game is situated to bridge to the next gen of MMOs..
The MMO within the MMO.
With the advent of in-station tech you will see this game grow in ways you can't even dream right now.
When I can start lobbing grenades at people that means I can start going down to planets. (That's MMO 2, after the original).
And if I can go down to a planet I can conquer that planet through any number of means. (That's MMO 3)
And once I conquer that planet, or that nation, or whatever...I can RULE that nation, that planet, whatever. (That's MMO 3.5).
See what I mean?
It sounds silly to say...bt there is literally a Universe of possibility in this game.
I just have to wonder of CCP will be bold enough to bridge that gap?

It will then become subject to a hostile takeover bid from Sony Online Entertainment, seeking to open up the World of EVE to a broader audience and introducing more accessible content.

it's more a question of possibility than courage. If CCP held the technology to make that sort of things they would have made it already.
The things you are describing will come if the game lasts. I hereby remove my sig, sigs are evil, sigs are the devil and i suck at drawing... |

Cmdr is right, EVE is the last of the "free" MMOs.
The faster they try to advance it the bigger risk they run at being absorbed into a larger company.
EVE is one of the few MMOs not designed to appeal to a huge audience, thus making as much money as possible. So you cant compare it's subscription numbers to say, WoW. Because WoW was specifically designed to bring in an many people as possible.
So to be honest the only successful MMOs are Everquest, WoW, and EVE.
Just pray that CCP keeps it up and doesn't get 0wned by Microsoft or some other company... ***

WoW attracts the larger portion of the market as it has been specifically designed for the teenage gamer. EVE on the other hand has been designed as a serious MMO that is complex and diverse. This kind of game doesn't appeal to the typical WoW gamer. To be honest, I've played both and can honestly say that EVE is of a much high quality to WoW and has infinitely more freedom. Like I said, this doesn't appeal to the key teenage market. I'd say that the AVERAGE age of an eve player would be in their mid twenties. _________________

I firmly believe it would be possible for Eve to maintain its high level of integrity while still growing into the MMO within the MMO framework. In fact, I would almost go so far as to say the next step would REQUIRE a game of this caliber in order to pull it off.

EVE is one of the few diamonds in the crock pot that is the world of mmo's diamonds take time to occur naturally, they cannot be forced without imperfection. Yes eve has huge potential, but its come a long way from where it started already you truely can't understand that unless you've been around since the beta, I've only been here just over a year now and im only starting to understand it. More stuff will come over time planet side and in station stuff is already on the drawing board if you look around the site you'll find info to that effect.

Edited by: Faith Black on 16/12/2006 16:35:32 I remember the bob demography. A high percentage of them is working in the computer industry. If that's typical for EVE players, we might solve a takeover of EVE , by a company that wants to change EVE into mainstream by rebuilding EVE from scratch, like we love it. Might take some time though.
edit: Urgs, shouldn't forum ware while playing. Screws up sentences.

i agree that eve doesn't appeal to alot of gamers.
They look at the game and see the potential, but can't stand the slow burn. they want there ***** fix, and they want it now.
Eve isn't like a high you get in EQ or WoW it is more like the high you get at the end of a hard day's work and are satisfied that you have accomplished something.
I have many friends that have tried EVE and allot of them get bored soon and quit, the game has a appeal, but they arn't patient enough to progress.
This does bring the argument, what can be done to make the game more appealing to the quick fix crowd, without destroying the slow achievement based game we all love.
I was thinking that if planets where a RTS (CnC) type game where you litterly start off on the ground as a trooper and fight your way up the ranks, to gain political power and eventually move into a pod. A more FPS or RTS style game with fast pased action, and split second choices. Then you start to take a more stategic view of it. instead of attacking a city you are worried about the moving of armies, and ships, then into space to control system.
So once you graduate from the planet you enter a pod into a system ships (as many as the rest of eve) but they can't leave the system except as cargo in a freighter..
as these people gain skills and isk they buy there first pod ship and are now free to compete on a grander scale of empire vs empire combat..
yes the posibilitys are endless.

The thought of prancing around a station only brings the probability of ten skills to use the toilet which ccp wont be able to resist. For example:-
1. **** Pot Aiming: Grants the basic human right to relieve oneself in a bowl, sink or urinal. Grants +5 accuracy per lvl. Not applicable to minamatar.
2. Flow management: Regulates the flow thus reducing splash damage and improves aiming. Grants +5 aiming and +5 splash reduction per level.
3. Flow focusing: Allows the operator to focus his flow into a fine point reducing splash damage and increasing the "Hung like a horse sound". Grants +5 splash reduction per level.
4. Drunken aiming: Reduces the sway effect thus improves aiming. Grants +5 aiming per level. Note. this will not stack with flow management, **** pot aiming, or anything else we make up at a later date.
5. Bladder retention: Increases overall capacity at the expense of accuracy. Grants +5 capacity & -5 accuracy. This will apply per level in 2008.
6. Dribble reduction: Reduces after-trickle thus making **** fines smaller. Grants +5 dribble reduction per level.
I'll leave the last four skills for you guys to think up since im completly ****ed as a fart and stoned off me rocker.

Part of the reason CCP has had such success with EvE is that they have chosen niche and filled it in the best way posable. They do what they do very well.
If they started branching out into FPS style gameing in EvE it would fail as an MMO. Im sposed to compete in twitch skills on a server based in london from austrailia against players in london... yeah.. got to love that 600ms delay.
Eve is just right as it is.. Let them keep refining what they have and leave the FPS to games that do that.
I would also hazzard a guess that the average age of the EvE gamer is probly lower than it was when the number 26 was released. the flood out of wow is begining and with it comes the spotty teens and the massively multiplayer forum whine.
Props CCP

It'd have to be a pretty hostile takeover when you consider that CCP is privately owned and not publicly traded.
