Any ideas on how to get EVE to run effectively on these drivers?
Synopsis: I have an ATI Radeon 9800 XT, I would revert to the 3.5's for stability but unfortunatly, the XT card wasn't around for the 3.5's, thus it ain't supported in the 3.5's.
Crashes, hard-locks, etc. You ATI guy's know the drill if ya tried the new drivers.
Any info would be appreciated.

I have the 9800pro and none of the drivers ever game me issues. Is this really the only game you are having problems with? Sound like the problems lies not with your video card but with the rest of your system.

I've seen people have this problem before also - so I know it's not my system. Yes, EVE is the only game I have had problems with.

I run windows 2000. Also, I run a 9800 XT (not a pro).
Also, http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=41541
Notice I'm not the only one with this problem. Although it's not a problem anymore with the 3.9s'.

Well, it crashes on me too. I have tried the 3.8 and now the 3.9 hotfix drivers (which is really 3.10 without WHQL) and the game keeps crashing to a totally blue screen. Not even a normal BSOD. No. A totally blue screen. Makes no sense really. Also seems to be at total random point here... But the game is totally stable with Cat 3.5 u ppl say...? ------------------------------------------------ ASUS P4G8X Deluxe P4 3.06GHz 1GB DDR266 in dual-channel 200GB Maxtor R9700Pro Terratec Aureon Space 7.1 WXP Pro SP1 + all fixes |

I run on this rig:
Asus P4C800E Deluxe, standard bios P4 3.0 @ 3.75, 1000 FSB 2 x 512 MB Corsair XMS 500 MHz Hercules 9800 XT on AGPx4, 800 FSB Maxtor 160GB 7200/8 S-ATA 150 Win XP pro Cable (1Mb dl - 192Kb ul)
I had some issues with black screens, and some crashes near jump gates, when still using Catalyst 3.8 but after recently installing Catalyst 3.9 everything is working fine, haven't had one crash, freeze or black screen in the last week (30 h of playing).

I would suggest Omega Drivers.... they are the best reg-tweaked ATi Catalyst drivers out there.
Take a look: www.omegacorner.com
Every problem i've ever had with games was easily fixed with these drivers, now i'm a follower. ------------------------- I don't have a signature. |

I have a 9700 pro and it crashed both in windows and in EVE so i removed the fast write. After that i haven't had any crashes.

Used to have loads of problems with eve crashing and graphics card.
v3.9 cat solved most of the random ctd. Be aware of your card temperature though as this sometimes causes me to crash (as my PC is next to the central heating radiator) :) ____________________________________ Ying and lots of Yang please. |

*nods* And make sure your CPU's voltage is correct. I was getting whole system shutdowns because the system thought it was overheating.
Upped the temperature tolerances in BIOS after checking the CPU's safe heat range (Athlon Thunderbird 1800 @ 90 degrees c - my alarm was set for 78 degrees), and lowered the voltage. Apparently my (Soyo Dragon) motherboard wasn't choosing the correct voltage for my processor, which was also making making the CPU run a bit hotter than normal (15-20 degrees).

Edited by: Qwakrz on 03/01/2004 13:46:43 I have an AIW9700pro, cat3.10 drivers and an nForce2 chipset with latest drivers
No Problems, even run 6xaa 16xAS full screen at 1280x1024 without problems
Try and update motherboard drivers to fix any AGP issues.
