Does anyone else think that the jip problem should be a non-issue? I'll admit that i dont know how ccp laid out their client/server/client system, but it seems to me that the server simply shouldnt send out the new ship in systems appearance until the jumping client verifies that its loaded. Possibly the servers are playing bad cop this way to avoid the possibility of ppl hacking the client. but if its not client hacking that they are worried about then its a relatively simple deal for the jumping client to send an all clear to server when its 95% (or whatever) done loading up the local system database and server notify the waiting campers.

Jumpin lag sucks.
But i feel for the pie- rats, how else do they catch some1 that doesnt want to fight?.
If u are smart and taking JI out of the topic, pirates should never get u.

This is getting "fixed" the very way you're talking about. The invulnerability time will most likely be removed. Completely.

very nice! I wonder why they didnt implement that solution from the beginning? Sometimes i wish i knew how their game mechanics are working client/server - i bet it's more fun to program eve than is is to play it ;)

I don't think hacking would be an issue really. All the data could be transferred to the client but not displayed until the client sends an all clear to the server which then sends a authorization to begin displaying the loaded data.
Though I hate JIP campers that use lag, I have to agree with Darth. Its close to impossible to kill anyone other then the odd newbie miner which are no challenge and are generally not even worthwhile killing. Its a reason but still imo not an excuse.
I think once the problem is fixed a lot of tards will cancel their accounts which will be a good day for EVE online.

Edited by: Toulak on 24/11/2003 13:59:10 Edited by: Toulak on 24/11/2003 13:57:53 All well and good that we remove the lag, but then the pirates proffesion is outa the window, they cant camp gates (well they can but they need a tank scorp), and people will fly on past with autopilot at JIPs with the lag fixed.
Remove sentry guns from 0.4 >
Give em somewhere to camp, but at the same time it'll make us antipirates job a lot easier too.
Edit -
Oh and nerf MWDs slightly, cause even with webifiers its near impossible to catch anything at gates if it wants to get through..

I thought the reason it was not like this was for security. To stop the data being interpreted by some hack between the server and client that could pre-warn a player of what their client is about to display.
This has been judged less of a problem than the hassle to players getting lag killed and never being able to do anything about it.
JIP camping will still be possible but the rats will have to fight in future instead of the risk free Aunt Sally they play at the moment.
I think you are right. Lots of 'tards will leave at that point and the world will be a sweeter smelling place.
Who are you to tell me to question authority? |
