Mmmmm... opening a Guinness and pouring it into a nice tall glass watching the fountain of brown and white beer rest to the bottom of the glass, taking its time, and picking up that glass and getting your mustache covered in white foamy goodness, feeling that amazing taste hit your stomach and realizing it really does hit the spot.........
now that i have your attention devs..
Can we get some 'realistic' shield effects? shooting a ships shield looks the same if i was nailing its hull. IT SUCKS. and have you ever seen what it looks like to be on the receiving end of a railgun/blaster? WTF kinda 'spectacular' hit is that?
if you've seen the trailer for Nexus 2 or known as Space Tech Demo (which was cancelled) :( you'd understand where im coming from. this is all i ask. shield effects! shield effects! that's all i got...
ok maybe some real 'warp' animation, like how freelancer did it. but that's it!
Pretty please with Guinness on top!

As a player of EVE for over three Years its not about the graphics thats keeps me here.
Its about taking damage as I run thru Jan.
Its making the profit off some merchandise I just turned around.
Its sitting at a camp and taking down a fast ship.
Graphics are nice but its not about the FPS it more about the players. New NPC Region |

Edited by: Raivi on 18/12/2006 16:34:26 Since EVE is a MMO, there are a different set of coding challenges than the developers of Nexus 2 faced. As pretty as those effects are, no computer can handle 400 ships in space at once with those detail levels. The scale of EVE makes individual detail like that impossible at current technology levels. As the technology improves we'll see graphics improvements however. I'm sure the DX10 version of the engine will have some nice surprises for us. (Remember that all the tech demos that CCP have shown so far are using the new DX9 engine, the DX10 engine will be a step above those)

CCP are aware of the project (this has been posted a couple of times in the OOP forum section).
I wonder how many seconds it would take though for it to burn your CPU when you see 400 ships on the screen at the same time _______

A great game like EVE doesn't need stunning graphic. History is full of mediocre games with excellent graphics, not to mention all bad games with stunning intro videos that you play for 20 minutes and then delete.
Actually I believe EVE could be text based like MUD and still be enjoyable ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I buy your Data Interfaces! Mail me ingame.

yea, but "if" it would look like this, even for 1 day as an expiriment, it would be soooo cool
think of piloting a frigate with a joystick and do these sort of attacks against a dread/carrier/titan

At the same moment, the smooth smell of "houblon" just come to my nose, with the very-well known Belgium "psh" of an Orval... The delicate taste of the trappist ale just come at the edge of my mouth and...
If I could talk a little about graphics glitches ("quick" fixes inside), I'd like to know why guns always dissapear AFTER the ship when jumping through a gate. If they would dissapear a second before, nobody would have noticed this glitch, even if the dissappaer before the ship (imho). There are also problems with the new map, when opening or closing it when changing environnement (end of warps, stations, jump gates and so on)... Why not disablling the button two second before a change is planified (it is possible to know when these moments occurs, or to dissable the button until changing a system when jumping, etc).
@Maltitol : You have the good method but I don't like stout . The demo was really awesome (I really liked the first game) but I prefer X3 over Freelancer (which was still good).

Any game that takes months to learn is a good game...
I do agree with the statement of good games dont neccesarrily need fancy graphics, ultima online still rocks, and duke 3d.. but that's besides the point.. the fact is, shield effects.... i hit a ships shield...... are you sure you actually hit the shield without looking at the HP of it?
how about when a ship explodes? you see the gfx on the video for the huge explosion.. i mean.. WOW.. really.. WOW... if my ship would explode like that, i wouldnt mind getting popped! ----------------------------------------

As long as now a days computer can alt-tab Oblivion, I'm pretty confident into CCP's capacity to surprise us.
Their current engine was superb even one or two years after its release (and even now, I found it splendid), but the problem will be in fleet battle. I'm sure all people will put graphics at max and we'll then suffer the lag from client (at least :p).
Anybody here that saw the planet tech demo last year can't wait for its release (my guess is it's for Buddha, cause Buddhism is... Well, we'll see this after Kal... woops Revelations III.).
ihmo, if I were ccp, I'd never release Revelation III. Instead i would go for a planet release then stations as they told about. I'm just imagining what devs have to do twice after Rev 3 : station for sure, maybe planet... It's an insane mass of work I think.

I'm 100% agree with this... The problem is : "What this game ? Look at the crap graphic and ship go pew-pew..." -> no new customers. After three years, maybe a compagny living now only on one game seek reniewed market, and new customers. In the video game industry, this mean new graphics. Why ? Because gamers mostly play the games they find "magic" like "zomg wow, this looks great !".
Originally by: Maltitol how about when a ship explodes? you see the gfx on the video for the huge explosion.. i mean.. WOW.. really.. WOW... if my ship would explode like that, i wouldnt mind getting popped!
I also agree.
I guess you won't see these effects on the current engine, but, if my estimation is exact, we'll see a Rev 3 close or just at the level of X3's graphics. What you want migth be inside Rev 3.
X3 are "zomg wow, this looks great !", with a crowded community but also a listening dev team. They are just after CCP in term of communication and exchange in any game I've saw imho. Their problem is the community is a mix of young players - it's still an action/strategy SP game - and the dev team that is really small compared to CCP. They are MMO wannabe, btw.

And... WHAT MORON Cancelled that game?!?? I'd have been all over it.... And I can't think of ANY Spaceflight game buff that wouldn't have been. All I have to say is if the gameplay had lived up to that video... wow....

lol
pew-pew guns make me laugh... first time i saw a dread shoot... i thought.. wow.. sounds as powerfull as a frigate gun.. fantastic! and the fact that the gun 'appears' forward to shoot, then 'appears' to be pointing downwards when its done with no animation is something that irritates me.. it should sound like a huge gun on a carrier, like the crap-tactular vids of red alert...
just some 'enlightening' graphics is all that's needed, i recently saw some old-@ss screenshots of the game, and it has indeed progressed... but.. i can make the same graphics with a crappy 3d game maker.
i do think dx10 will be a nice addon to the game.. but personally i dont think dx9 is really being used all that much, ive seen much MUCH better dx9 games than i see here in eve, mind you im not really complaining, im just saying, there could be more 'eye-candy' in this game that what is shown without increasing lag... the client is on our machines isnt it? all 500mb? all textures? our pc's should be processing it, not the nodes..... or am i wrong?
well.. cheers to rev 3, and hoping beer comes down in price ----------------------------------------

Not going to happen. That would require far to much interaction with the server and lag would increase so much Eve would be unplayable.
