Edited by: The Judged on 18/12/2006 18:53:23 It has been found that some are taking part in this scam.
There are many that use the contracts as honest players, but some will lie their way through the game.
If you see a contract like Zydrine. The description will have "zydrine x 23437" for example. If there is that amount of Zydrine on sell, then in bold letters above the description will say "Zydrine x 23437".
There are some players trying to sell items in one unit format and giving the description of more than one unit. That is a scam. I do not know if CCP thinks this is an exploit or not. But I feel I should warn the buyers. |

I have looked through the forums and didn't see anything about scams of this nature.
I saw on the general discussion forum where someone scammed a few players and worked within the rules of the game. CCP just said be careful with the markets of the game.
Plus this warning has been placed in the correct location. Under market discussion where it belongs.
I wonder if 1000 threads have been made on this topic. The contracts have only been in the game for around 2 weeks. If 1000 topics were being made then this would be a hot topic.
I wonder if you are one of the scammers trying to change the direction of this post. I saw a clear need to warn so I did.
Or maybe this thread is being used to say watch out I am coming for your isk. |

Anyone who falls for such a lame scam deserves it. You have at least 3 ways to detect it before you actually fork over your money.
And no, it's not illegal, and CCP will (and should) do nothing to the people attempting it.

I disagree.
CCP can and should do something about this.
Not for any moral reason, but because it's SO simple to remove this entire class of scams.
All that CCP has to do on the contract is instead of saying "Zydrine", instead say "Zydrine x 1" just like they say "Zydrine x 2" or "Zydrine x 10000".
That would mean that the english language plural vs single problem would be defeated and this entire class of annoying scam would be removed and stop clogging up the contract system.
It's not the scam that's the problem as much as the annoyance of a thousand damned extra contracts, all the same thing.

Yeah! I agree! CCP should do it again! They should try again and replace the current contracts system with its disadvantages and design flaws with a completely new and thought-through solution. Scams won't be a problem anymore since they won't be possible anymore.
Wait... what? You say they already did that? Hm, i must have missed it then. ;-)

I got burned by this type of scam in December. This is the pettiton I filed and the reply I got from CCP this morning. It's in reverse order with my petition at the bottom and the GM's reply at the top.

GM Panic Sent - 1/26/2007 3:37:00 PM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi.
This type of scam is allowed. The confirmation window you get before accepting your bid clearly states how many units you will receive from the contract. Unfortunately that means that we are unable to reimburse you for this loss.

If I scam someone out of 100million isk they deserved it. You can't put freeform contracts on the market (which is what many scammers use in private affairs) and if you don't check the information beyond the description that is your problem.
Oh...and thread necromancy ftw. Just noticed --------------

Paying attention ftw.
Economics in EVE are another form of PvP, financial PvP - with its share of cutthroats, pirates and carebears insisting on prohibitively limiting "security" measures for both. Consider the market to be highsec and the contracts system to be lowsec, with freeform being nosec.
I wonder how many players take for granted the warning they get in market that they're about to buy something that's priced ridiculously above regional average, or sell at pathetically lower. Or that they're buying something in another system. I wonder how many ignore those warnings and whine about it later...
Those warnings were added to the game since release. CCP has been steadily making trade more secure and friendly to the user, and still people cry when they lose because they DIDN'T PAY ATTENTION. --- Should CCP enact toll gates? Discuss it here! |

Flaming will stop now. It appears to be an honest attempt at a warning. Use or do not use, at your discretion. Further flaming will receive warnings. Do not post GM correspondence. If you have any questions, please email us at [email protected].

Honestly...
The number of times this singular scam has been posted on the boards should alone indicate that the Mods should make a sticky concerning all known contract scams. So when in doubt we can check the thread and add or verify the legitimacy of suspicious con-tracts.
