If CCP were to grab this they could make it an open source MMO with CCP being only a kind of guiding hand and community center point. Owen the rights they could make a buck through merchandise, pay per download dev kits, and hard copy books about coding for Ryzom.

This is an interesting idea, but one that I doubt CCP would be interested in. We recently merged with White Wolf and will have our hands full in coming years working on a World of Darkness MMOG, among other projects. I will point this out to the company though.

I bloody hope that doesnt detract 1% from EVE, and on top, I hope it contributes even more so to EVE. When can we expect EVE novels to hit the shelves? And is there any hope of having the style of art done on a pay per case basis. Example; I'd like to get Veto together to pay for a drawing of all our members together.. Be it ISK or not.
Any thoughts?

As a developer, looking at the source code would be interesting, but as the slashdot discussion pointed out, developing the source is probably the smallest running cost of an MMO - so it's doubtful you'll see a big rack of servers hosting it any time soon.

I wanted to try out Earth and Beyond and they announced closure in a couple of months.
I wanted to try out Star Wars Galaxies and SOE released the NGE.
Now I downloaded the free trial for Ryzom and you are telling me this? Buh.

Contributions to EVE- White Wolf staff will be assisting the EVE Devs with such things as mission and dungeon creation, stories and fiction, etc.
WoD MMOG- The initial design documents are being written, we are at least 3-4 years from a beta.

mission dungeon and ? exploration sites are they being expanded with variants to make it less repetitive ?
WOD MMOG good target goal 3 years seems a long time in this business it isnt.
How about the jove expansion and storyline u guys made any early planning there yet - dont expect a response but iwll keep my eyes open

Did you play Ryzom? It was obvious that they did a lot of work, and it did look OK.
But it just wasn't fun PvE.. and while players could have made it fun, there wasn't enough of them.

Thanks, it'd be cool if you could pass that along. I'm going along the thought of the Veto Bar with all of Veto sat around, showing one moment in time, and all of us doing different things. I imagine it'd be interesting to draw, let alone look at.

I play Ryzom. It is a very good game. The client is very well design. It is more 'carebear' friendly. CCP could have alot of fun with this game. The thing it really needs is content. They could easily have the number 1 and 2 MMOs if they gave Ryzom some love.
It might be in CCP's best intrest to buy it, give it love, make money from it and keep it from becoming open source.

I don't know what to say, as I know irl some of the guys that made the background of Ryzom (they also worked for a french tabletop rpg maker that I worked a little with). Afaik, it's a good game and a very good story and world but never played it.

I remember beta testing Ryzom, and even played it live for awhile. Really liked the system (design your own abilities) just couldn't get enough of my friends interested to run around with.
Sad to see it go =/
