A) Only way to survive in 0.0 is to belong to a corp out there. {Unless you are some gate camping pirate.}
B) Belonging to a corp in 0.0 means you are often REQUIRED to go on corp ops, mine, gatecamp ect when THEY tell you to. Many times this requires you to be in on voice communications as well. That is the tradeoff for having access to all of the riches out there.
C) Most people refuse to put up with (B) and will happily accept less riches in exchange for their in-game freedom and more leisurely play styles.
I am not saying one way is more "right" than the other but that is the most common mindset of the Empire dweller.
Saying "Hey, just come out here to 0.0! it is more fun than boring Empire!" isn't going to cut it.
Part of the problem is that all the big alliances want newbies for is well mining. You want me to kill rats for the alliance, no problem. Bringing in my producer alt and keep one or two research or production jobs going for the corp, no problem. Kill rats for the corp no problem. PVP for the corp, fine just as long as you don't require me to bring a ship I can't afford to loose. But spend hours of my recreational time minning? Um no. If you need minerals that badly put up an outpost and buy them off the market.

No, no and thrice no. Uh Uh , no way. Absolutely and categorically not.
I have never and will never recruit a new player to come and be a mining slave to UKC and if any one else on the team were to do so I would pod them back to empire personally.*

Originally by: Tsanse Kinske The one thing I've really taken from this thread is that even the people whose opinions and level-headedness I respect immensely on these forums occasionally get sucked into pointless flamewars with jerks.
It's unfortunate and doesn't do anybody credit. I sure understand the temptation though.
FWIW, I think the OP was amusing and had some good points.
Yeah, for my part I'm just having some fun with a forum troll. I know it ain't very high-brow of me but anyone who knows me knows I ain't high-brow. It's good to succumb to temptation sometimes and grind the organ so the monkey can dance.
It was a good OP but the Eve forums are no place for friendly and open commentary. I've recruited plenty of rookie pilots and they have rolled out to 0.0 before they could even field a cruiser. Every single one of them is loving it and learning new skills (player, not skill book) every day. When one of them hits a landmark like their first solo kill it's like watching the kids on christmas morning.
What set them apart from the crowd was attitude. In every case it was an up front, "can do", "where do you need me", "I can help with that" attitude. Getting ganked is a way of life on the rim, until you get caught a couple of times and learn to avoid it (or try and get that fluke kill in before running ). If you are open to the idea that 0.0 is not some insta-death gank zone and you are prepared to lose a few ships while you learn how things work you can go far out here. Even with only a Rifter, sensor booster and some drone skills you can control fighters and take down battleships with ease.
The key part being I never recruited any from this forum. Anyone who reads the stuff here gets it into their head pretty quick that 0.0 is full of 14 year old gank monkies and is totally off limits unless you joined in '03 or are prepared to hand over your lunch money to some 'griefer' alliance. No matter how many times you try and tell them it ain't like that it never sinks in.

I'm more or less in the same situation; I wouldn't mind going out to 0.0 but I don't want to leave my corp. And since my corp is fairly small and relaxed, I doubt an alliance would really want us to join. I mean we aren't around enough to help fight, and I'm pretty sure most alliances have their basic tech1 production needs met already.

The relationship between hi-sec and lowsec is symbiotic. If you enjoy freight & trade you can make a killing. In Providence Ushra'Khan, ISS & CVA have a policy of not shooting neutrals.
We all run POSs and therefore always need fuel. You can dock at Unity station, ISS Fabrica, ISS Condiso, Inflatable House and possibly Domis Fidelis (?) as long as you have not had hostilities with the above.
When you are there you will likely find faction items / high quality named loot on the market that you can buy and sell in high sec at a higher price.
There is almost always a market for ships and mods but you'd need to look at market data to see what sells.
Of course pirates are an eternal problem and Ushra'Khan are at war with CVA so a safe land of peace love it ain't.
There is no reason you can't just run trade goods in and out. Make yourself known to the locals etc. You don't have to join an alliance to go out there.

I guess I don't put much stock into this becuase this has not been experience at all.
Don't really care if you put any stock into it. Everyone has had different experiances in the game whether it is Empire or 0.0. Not every corp is ran the same way either.
However, the majority of 0.0 corps do expect their members to participate in corp ops and it is up to the player to decide if that is something they are interested in and have the time to do or if it would be better {for them} to stay in Empire and "Carebear it" at the own leisure. I don't care if "some" 0.0 corps do not run corp ops or do not expect members to participate in them because that is the exception, not the rule.
I know this is difficult for certain people to understand though because some of you are either really stupid or just want to walk through EvE with blinders on. Ive had better results talking to my six year old cousin about why she shouldn't eat ice cream five minutes before dinner.
1. Ice cream is dinner 2. There are a LOT of exceptions, enough that it is pretty easy to find a corp/alliance that fits your needs. You just have to remeber, that it IS a symbiotic relationship. Sometimes you will be asked to help the corp/alliance out. This is no different than helping your buddy finish a level 4 mission in empire that he helped you finish yesterday.

Everyone is aware that there is a 0.0-lite?
Stain, Curse and a few other regions are NPC controlled and have NPC stations you can dock at. The downside is that these places are worse than lowsec with regards to pirates. Curse is notrious for it. If you don't have a corp (or prefferably an alliance) to watch your back, you can get badly ganked.

Hmm, that's an interesting idea; I might poke around out there and check it out. Thanks for the advice.
