I'm looking for some advice on how to outfit a Caracal. With my skills I've got 420 CPU 636 Power grid
At the moment in a mission set-up I've outfitted my Caracal with
3x Heavy Launchers 2x Assualt Missile Launchers
1x Medium Shield Booster II 1x Large Shield Extender 1x Target Painter Ix Rat-Spec. Shield Hardener (In this case a Thermal) and an afterburner...
Down south I have 1x Ballistic Missile Control 1x Capacitor Relay
I'm ears for advice. Also, any comments on what I should use in Pvp combat?
Thanks -Shadow

Edited by: DiuxDium on 18/12/2006 22:21:10 5x HML
1x SBII 1x LSE II 2x Specific Hard
1-2x BCU 0-1x CPU
You might need the cpu boost to fit it, depending on your WU
^^ That setup sucks imo, but it's what you're going to see most of the time.
I'd much rather fit up
5x HML
2x LSE II 2x Specific Hard
2x BCU
- For level 2's it works a charm - since you've got not tackle gear in your OP I figure that's what you're going for.
For PvP, I really don't suggest it since it needs mids to tank, but.
5x HML \ HAM
2x LSE II 1x 20km Scram 1x Ab\MWD
1x BCU II 1x Co-Proc - If you fit the MWD you're going to need a Co-Proc. Otherwise, you can probably squish in another BCU I

5x Heavy Launchers
3x Invuln 2x LSE
PDU RCU
2 Lights
One hell of a passive tank; Ive tanked 0.1 rats in it fine without shields dropping

Light drones. Most people don't realize it, but the Caracal actually has a drone bay. Use it.
For the ship itself, start with:
5x heavy launchers (best you can afford), sensor booster (base targeting range sucks), and AB. Keep at 90km range and spam missiles. The best tank is just being too far away to hit.
Finish the tank from there. Large extenders are good, so are appropriate hardeners. BCUs in lows if your fitting allows it, otherwise fitting mods.

Caracal is my favorite ship.
I usually use 4 heavy Lauchers 1 Assault (In Highs..) Large Shield Extender. 1 active Invulner Shield (Kin) , 1 Passive Hardnerer (kin) , Prototype Sensor / Scanner, 10mw warp drive Ballistic Control Unit, nanoFibers 2combat Drones (Hornets)
This is a ratting ship no doubt. Fighting at range, load the assault launcher with defenders. Got Frigates in your mission, use bloodclaws.. Hits nice and pretty quick too..

Thanks for the good advice. Do you suppose I could do Lvl 3 missions with that set-up? At the moment Lvl 2 are way too easy.

It's possible, but not easy. I've done pretty much all of them (and all my agent bothers to offer) in the navy version, but it's got a much better tank. In a standard Caracal, it's probably possible if you stay alinged, have patience, and warp out when you start taking too much damage.
With heavies, you'll have 80+km of missile range, enough to significantly reduce incoming damage. Keep out of range, and you can probably wear down the targets, even if you have to warp out a few times and recharge cap/shields.

Mine that worked well on lvl2's 3 x Assault launchers 2 x Heavy launchers
1 x lge shield extender 1 x AB (or another extender) 1 x shield hardener (main npc damage) 2 x shield amplifiers (main & secondary npc damage)
2 x BCU
Change your damage type and hardeners/amps to fit the mission
