Well today after jumping around regions for a while, eve started to get REALLY choppy on me - but not laggy! It was weird, the fps went horribly low, causing everything to be choppy, even sound. However, response times didn't indicate that there was any lag.
I relogged to clear it up and decided to run task manager and watch eve as it ran. I noticed that while at the character selection screen (earlier too maybe? Wasn't paying close attention) that eve was chewing up 8k of ram about every second.
I'm now in the game, and it's still doing it - the oddest part is, it wasn't doing this yesterday. CCP, are you aware of this? Is this something that the extended DT will fix, or is this by chance a new memory leak in Revelations that just happens to have reared it's ugly head today?

Same here. Started about an hour ago while travelling, fps went down, i even had <10 fps in station (normally about 160). I restarted EVE, everything was fine again, but after travelling a few minutes fps went down again. A few corp mates experienced the same thing, so i don't think it's our end to be blamed.

I'm experiencing the exact same thing. Happening on both my laptop (Dell XPS) and my desktop computer (AMD 64).

Yep. Same here.
DT isn't aimed at fixing client problems though, so who knows when they'll get to it.

Take advancedDevice=1 out of your prefs.ini file if you've made that edit. I don't know if it's a full on fix, but it seems to have remedied the choppiness for me.
Also, take the networkadvanced setting out as well as the "save password" option is no longer there, so it's not worth having.

Same here..I found with autopilot on within 4 jumps I was down to 6 fps from 40. Then tried manual wtz and managed 17 jumps..but was at 3.5 fps when I docked, seem to make about 11 jumps before the slow death started.

Deleting the entries in the prefs.ini file as I said before didn't fix it. It's doing it again.

Appears the process called ExeFile.exe in task manager starts up normally but exponentially takes more cpu and memory after each session change and warp out. Frame rates drop from the 50's quickly at first but slows down 'till eventually it's only 1 frame rate. Takes around 20-30 minutes and 90-98% cpu is being used and all 1gb memory is being allocated to this process alone. Restarting every 15-20min is a temporary fix untill they patch the leak but it is really annoying.

Made another change to my prefs.ini file, bringing the "buffersize" down to 768 from 1024 (I have 2GB). I don't expect it to make a difference.

I'm experiencing exactly the same problem, progressively worse "choppiness" until after a few jumps I just quit and restart.
This is new for me as of today and this is the first odd issue I've had in the 9 months I've played.

As soon as I jump into another system the performance degrades horribly to the point where I have 1fps - Makes mission running a bit of a joke atm

Have the same issue.
Running at a grand total of 4 fps at the moment, which dips below 3 when I warp to a station or gate.
I play on a laptop, so I'm used to a bit of lag once in a while. But usually it does run around 50 fps.

Yp, me too. EVE slows down from 60~ fps to about 5. Funny thing is that when I check the process with Process Explorer (free tool) after it starts to chop, it shows 100% CPU usage (which is quite normal) but about a half of that usage is in kernel mode !! I don't know what a game needs to do in a kernel mode but maybe someone clever would explain to me :)

I got the same problem yesterday. After a couple of jumps i was down to 3 fps both outside and inside station. usually i have around 100 fps in station :/
The weird thing is that my computer doesn't get more stressed when this happens. When it is choppy as hell it only uses around 60% of the CPU and around 70-250mb of memory (depending on the environment).

Yup same here i get 100+ fps in station and average about 45 to 60 fps in space. After about 15mins or so travelling around the fps drops to 6 or so fps, looking at task manager eve is at around 225mb and cpu is very busy also. The only way to solve this problem is to relog but the problem comes back again and this started happening to myself last nite and is the 1st real problem i`ve had with eve so i say has to be server side but hoping CCP will work it out.

This is an extremely serious problem, not just annoying. Especially for people with alts, one jumping around and one fighing, both clients will lag horrendously.
Can we get an update, CCP?

I detected the same problem with jumps. But for me it seems to be a CPU problem, not a memory problem. memory amount is growing but not very fast ony my system.

Edited by: DeTox MinRohim on 19/12/2006 17:00:10 Same here...
My fan was squeeking so loud suddenly on the processor and it was already unplayable that I stopped everything and did a clean-up of my box. I though my hamsters were dying of exhaustion.
While I'm still traumatized about how it was inside before I cleaned it up, it didn't fix anything...
EveFile.exe is going completly awak probably by receiving a bad argument on a session change and therefore causing a loop... or a leak... or... whatever... that thing.
Note that I relogged once and stayed into station, studied the map for awhile and doing things like that... no problem at all. So it does seem to be related to traveling around, session changes, etc. So it could be server-side sending a bad info.
I couldn't test yet since this morning patch. ------ I'm an Alt... get over it ! I take no responsability for your paranoia ! This sig space is Read-only, no you won't touch it ! |

1.5 fps and 100% cpu usage last night, with half my ram being used. It's evident there's too many carrots on a stick and nothing to hold them 3 feet in front of your head.

I have also been experiencing this problem, however it hasn't been limited to jumping around. Last night I was averaging about 5 fps, and though I'm playing on a laptop, I usually get about 30-50 fps depending on where I am and what I'm doing. As soon as I undocked and warped to a mission area this evening, my fps dropped to 5 again. Using a smaller res doesn't help, neither does zooming way out. I've also got some weird clipping problem or artifacts visible when I dock - that is, I can only see a giant blob, not my ship.
If I weren't so bent on playing lately, I would just give up and train something for the next few weeks, as I'm pretty much risking getting exploded every time I try to run even the simplest of missions. I'm just as frustrated as everyone else.

For me, it's not a 100% garaunteed occurance, I can sometimes run th egame for hours without a problem, othertimes it can take 10 minutes or so to start showing symptoms... which suggests there's something very specific I do (a module..or something in a stations, combination of things, etc...) that initially triggers this resource leak
