Originally by: Suitcase Jefferson Alright, so this is my third time on a trial account with EVE(not in a row!), and I was also a beta tester way-back-when.
Anyways, long story short: 4 days into my game, over 1 million ISK and a fully loaded Merlin with Prototype Gauss 125mm railguns. Missile launchers, shield boosters (+20 boost to shield.. but totally kills my capacitor. This is what killed me in the long run.. more on that later).
I had a streak going on the end of my trial where I died six times in a row with Lv1 Mordus Headhunters Mission, because I kept getting frustrated, adding bigger guns, and stronger shields.... and I had no cap because of it. Also, I hadn't heard of the energy management skill, that helps you manage your cap much better. Maybe it's something like that.
Quote: So, as I said: Fully decked out (as decked out as a n00b can get), Merlin. Level 1 n00b mission. I warp in to my mission zone...
...
and am promptly destroyed by 25 pirates.
At the same time. In the face. Now, this wouldn't be so bad if the mission warped me to the EDGE of the encounter, but noooo... it put me smack-dab right in the middle of it.
What was the name of the mission. This sounds alot like World Collide (unless I'm taking you too literally) where you are meant to run from those big bad boys.
Quote: Oh, and you know what else? I was using my Merlin as a home away from home.
Yeah. See, this is why you can never do that. Always be a little paranoid that your cargo is somehow gonna get blowd up. So store it whenever you can. BUT have a system so that you're not chasing items down from 30 systems across the galaxy.
Quote: So anyways, my shields are shot, so I flick on my booster...
I feel ya, dawg. :-s Quote:
So, uh - in other words... why was my noob mission so difficult? (read: blew me up).
Other than the tutorial missions (a two parter), all Lv 1 missions are randomly chosen from the preset ones. No consideration for being your first since the tutorial. Not linear at all. It sounds like you got a doozy at first. It happens.
A good rule of thumb for how tricky a mission might be is the total amount of ISK you're being offered. For Lv 1's, with no connections or negotiation skills... anything near six digits in payoff should get you suspicious/paranoid. As you skill up things you need, that won't be the case as much. That's one of the best things you can do right now - the ISK and loyalty point will be there. But figure out what is best to train - not only for better ships and modules, but to get the most bang for your buck out of what you'll always need (like gunnery, navigation, mechanic, hull repair, shield operation, engineering, electronics, and connections, to name just a few).
If you can, work on level 1 deadspace complexes, or ask people if they wouldn't mind you tagging along in a gang.
