AMEN! too that. Make speed matter!
I also agree with getting rid of MWD's and nerfing AB's (to some degree anyway). Frigates should be the fastest ships in the game, not BS's with some MWD's.
I also like the idea of BS's having to equip light/med weapons if they want to try and hit a frigate. Or, have escorts (which would be a more economical option). ***Curse Alliance Member* |

I think this topic contains some realy good ideas. i can only hope ccp reades em. Making speed matter in combat( not only runing away) will ad more debt to the game. The drone vs frig problem could be fixed by nerfing the heavy drones chance to hit smaller frigs. one more benefit in making frigs matter is that when(hopefuly not if) the ccp decides to remarked the game the new players may take part in the game world faster. With the curent situation all of us are gonna be in battleships when the new players arive. And they dont have any means of making a difference in the game world what will they think?

I like the idea of speed being a factor... it'd be fun to see someone warp off and you warp after 'em and be at their destination first, waiting with gun ports open.
I think someone mentioned making the subwarp speeds different too. I'd really like to see a dramatic difference in the speeds of different shipclasses... as it stands now, bships and cruisers can mount a MWD and will outrun ANY frigate in the game. Somehow that just seems unbalancing. Why not just remove MWD from the game alltogether? Just my 2isk though. |

A couple of things I'd like to add.
I read quite some time ago that CCP invented the class 2 Battleship (Raven, Appoc etc.) to be Station Killers. Anyone flying these ships already knows they are slow and cumbersome but the idea that they can take out a Ship the size of a frigate is somewhat ludicrous.
Heavy Cruisers - I don't see a specific need of a new ship class for this but rather renaming and reclassifying Class 1 Battleships as Heavy Cruisers. Balance their Cap, Power, CPU and Hardpoints in direct proportion to ships above and below them.
Cruisers - Increase the speed and manoeuvrability on them but otherwise leave them as is. Place their price firmly between the cost of Destroyers/Heavy Cruisers.
Destroyers - I've read in a recent interview that this is a ship class that is going to be designed to take out the new Hybrid/Elite frigates because Cruisers will only have a small chance off hitting them and BS no chance at all.
Frigates - If CCP introduces Elite/Hybrid Frigates (whatever they're going to be called) they should be kept as a separate class to standard Frigates allowing new players to progress along the route they do now i.e. Frigate to Destroyer/Cruiser, and requiring new skills.
Carriers - I'm still unclear on the role CP has in mind for Titans but I think these would be a great Carrier class vessel being able to carry a specific number of Elite Frigates and only housing rapid firing anti-frigate weaponry. Having said that, I'm not sure just how that would work from a specific game play point of view. It would most likely have to be similar to being docked in a station but with maybe a small window linked to the Titan's camera drone. Could prove too problematic.
The idea of differing warp speeds is a great one but skills allowing gang warping (which IMO should be made allot easier) ships to travel at the speed of the slowest ship. I also think that formations would bring a more tactical side to battle which currently is too much the 'Biggest ship with the Biggest Weapons wins'.

In my opinion bs should be what real life bs are. In other words mobile heavy gun batteries, designed for bs v bs engagements with little movement (broadsides more or less) or similar and stationairy object bombardment. Lets face it, how many bs shoot down high speed manoverable fighters with heavy guns. Real world cap ships have smaller support vessels for a reason, they can do things the big ships can't. That means all ships have equally vital roles. The problem with eve at the moment is that instead of ships divided into roles it is worst to best with a few exceptions.

Making speed a factor is a good idea. I wouldn't nerf mwd and ab tho, instead have mods effect each other more. For instance heavier armour and/or large weps reduces the effect of ab and mwd and less/no armour smaller weps give a bonus. Also agiliy should be be a factor when it comes to locking and tracking, the higher the agility the smaller the gun needed to lock and track effectivley. Unfortunately effective evasive manouvering is somewhat dificult with a 3rd person view. I know ccp treat the option of first person as a taboo but maybe it could be usefull for frigs for evasive manouvering only (no weapon, ew etc control). I for one would love to attack bs blockades with a wing of kestrels and be able to dodge a bararge of fire on my way in and out, instead of the current system where u get morked in an instant.
