A way for d-scan to automatically scan set distance and angle at preset frequency interval.
Basically, you could choose from a list of presets (examples: 5 seconds, 10 seconds, 15 seconds up to 30 seconds let's say) and d-scan will automatically scan system at what ever angle and range you have selected for repeatedly at the chosen frequency.
Why?
To make things a little easier for pilots and reduce the amount of clicking required.
Some people will probably rage that this will promote AFKness but I don't think it will be too much of a problem. After all, even if d-scan auto refreshes for you, you still have to be present to be aware of potentially hostile results on the scan

How about the ability to zoom out to solar-system scale and see as far as your ships sensors allow, in real time?
Edit: Oh wait no that would require a massive change/update in the game engine/client. Lets add more T3 ships and special wormholes instead.

Id be somewhat ok with this if the highest frequency was 90 seconds.
If you want more updates than that then be more attentive.

Normally I would agree with anything that makes life easier for me...
HOWEVER, in this case, I feel it's a matter of management. If you're not willing to ensure your security and/or tactical systems, then you will die and/or fail. |

I'd rather see D-Scan overhauled to work in a passive/active mode.
I am currently away, traveling through time and will be returning last week.

So much this. There is a lot that could be done with dscan to make it better and more complex, like trading arc width for range, having an active/passive mode switch, linking the max Range*Arc=K value to the ship's sensor strengh...
I don't think making dscan auto refresh would be a bad idea if it's combined with further changes, but on it's own... I'd say no.

Brother 90% of my EVE flight time is a paranoid click spam of the "Scan" button, this would save me thousands of clicks a day. I think a series of cycles would be better though.
For example, you activate the scanner and it scans every 3 second intervals, but after doing this the 3rd time it needs to be reactivated. |

Do you mean the "lowest" frequency? Otherwise your statement doesn't make much sense. |

Can't we just have the game auto warp us to a safe spot and cloak us like the better botting programs do?
Stop taking baby steps. Let's have the game do everything for us so we can level up while we're at work. Eve would be so much more efficient if I could get up, log in and go to work knowing my eve client will both run the pve content of my choosing and also keep me from losing a ship while afk doing other things.
Serously, the less we have to pay attention and actually play the game the better off we all are.

But, having to actually play the game is obviously bad game design. There is no meaningful choice in d-scanning, everyone should do it, so CCP needs to automate it for me. It's a quality of life improvement and will help newbies a lot.

If it-¦s to hard for you to klick on the button if you need new information, maybe eve is not the right game for you.

No.
Highest frequency = shortest intervals

I like that idea very much and like on an submarine with passive and active sonar, you should be be detectable from a bigger distance on d-scan than when it is on active and as user you get a bigger radius covered... For example: On passive you see everything around e.g. 2-4 AU, on active 14 AU....but you are visible in passive mode in 2-4 AU Range on D-scan, in active mode within14 AU.
Perhaps make that passive mode only available on certain ships T3 (linked to subsystem), covert-ops, recons and black-ops....or increase the range of the passive mode on these ships or ease the fitting requirements
Combat probes are not affect, which means you can be detected as usual
Would that be reasonable?

Please be constructive people.
I agree with what someone said earlier, the sheer amount of spamming associated with d-scan clicking kills the immersion of the game at times.
Even though the client would be auto-scanning for you, you still have to be PAYING ATTENTION to d-scan results and therefore are still actively playing the game.
For a game where the lore will have us believe that the ships we pilot are filled with numerous NPCs managing systems it is conceivable to presume that the captain of a vessel would assign tasks, such as this, to be carried out by crew members who would then report back to him/ her their findings
Your overview automatically adjusts for you when selected objects come within its range, will so many of you have us believe that we should actively be using some scanner of sorts to populate our overview tab so as to avoid becoming lifeless bots? Those results make our lives a hell of a lot easier and are provided for us at our leisure. |

Honestly, I'd rather just roll that functionality right into the overview, and keep D-Scan for sub-360 degree scan - i.e. actually indicating a direction. |

I'd normally 100% agree. However, living in a wormhole, I do have a respectable level of sympathy for this. However I doubt OP is a WHer, we made our peace with this a long time ago.
But in the interests of completeness I'll add a WH perspective:
It's not engaging, fun or even a meaningful choice in there, it is a complete pain in the hoop. An essential chore.
K-space, well and good. J-space? Let me tell you, you literally click that button every 10 seconds until you log out.
Not that I think anything will change any time soon, but folks should keep in mind not all space is created equal. |
