What type of weapons should I use to pirate with? And how does randsoming actually work? Also, I heard players can be given items as a form of randsom, even ships, so please tell me about that. By the way, when talking to a victim about randsoming, do you use local chat, or what? Thanks.

Whichever weapons your ship gets bonuses to.
And nos. Nos is good, it makes people unable to tank (and in some cases stops them shooting).
When ransoming, I prefer to wait until target is in structure, and preferably capped out. Then start a convo with them and ask them for (depending on age, known modules, and possibly how civilly they respond) about half their ship price. Examples of variations would be if it's a 1 week old noob, I might drop to a quarter. If it's a 2 year character with faction/t2 I'll ask for half ship and mods.
If they pay, let them go, and thank them for being a good customer. If they don't pay, kill them. Remorse and not killing here is bad.
Also, I've found people more willing to pay if they're unable to tank and fire, hence the nos.
Always set a time limit you find appropriate. I work with 30 seconds normally. If they stall for time, just count down the timer, and if they haven't paid, kill them. If their friends jump into local, kill them, and warp out.
For starting piracy ships, I reccomend the Rifter and Punisher primarily, and also have a fondness for the Incursus, the Tristan, and in some cases the Kestrel.

Edited by: Thufir Hawats on 20/12/2006 09:54:45 I would advise anyone not to pay because many Pirates, Kamuta Xepo8ato being a bad example, PK after the ransom was paid, adding insult to injury. Never trust a thief.

I'm no Thief! My sensors said your ship was unmanned so I used it for target practice. The rules of the universe state if its abandoned its free for the taking... Really if you don't want to be shot at stop masking your life signs gosh!
As for ransoms... if you pay it and the pirate does not let you go, post a thread about this pirate. Name and Shame is the name of the game.
As for weapon to use, its all about what race of ship you fly. Min = Autocannons, Rockets Gallente = Blasters, Drones Calder = Rockets, Blasters Ammar = Use Min Autocannons... easer to tank!
As for items as ransoms. You can ask them to drop what ever is in there cargo hold (jet it)
As for ship ransoms, if you thenk they well go for it and seeing as they well lose there ship any ways you can ask them to eject from there ship. (Works best if you have a friend to come pick the ship up)

The three weapons i would suggest are fear, surprise, and ruthless efficiency...and an almost fanatical devotion to projectiles

How dumb would you have to be to pay a ransom, then eject just so you can get podded? If you fall for something like that its your own darn fault...
You know who the real thief is right? you for taking up my bandwidth.

You know, I don't steal your bandwidth, you're giving it. After all I don't make you read this, but I otoh don't have a choice in game when you jump and scram me. But let's elaborate a bit, first of all I didn't call you a thief, I wrote about not trusting them. If you identify with 'em it's solely your problem. Don't like being called a thief? Don't be one. Better than being a softie pirate that can't take a little flaming (and I didn't even flame) that imho comes with the job! There is no such thing as a honourable pirate and you can't expect people to love or even respect you if you jump them 4:1 (or 1vs1 if it's BS against indie).
Never, ever trust a thief!

The guys I kill love me... I make them say it.
The guy we just ransomed trusted us... what did he get? He got to leave safely in his pod...

I was ransomed once, it was quite comical.
He did the standard take me down to hull and nos/scram and then ask for 20x the cost of the next ship class above me (was in a brutix and he was in a raven) so I promptly asked him to patiently wait while i pull the credits from my *** but instead created a bookmark of my location.
I then hit the self destruct button and fliped back on my DCU while he began to frantically shoot at my ship to finish it off before all the modules inside were vaporized. While he was busy shooting at my brutix i ejected and used that time to safely escape.
Aftewards several seconds later i decided to warp back and see if he tried to commandeer my ship and make alot more than normal, isint greed great? Anyways i boarded his now unmanned ship and and warped away too a great fireworks show as my brutix exploded in a great ball of fire.
TIP, Flying a ship is not the ONLY reason to get the skills for one.

How do they give me items or money? Do I just simply ask them to give me money by means of "tipping" in a SWG sense, and how would we trade? Also, is it necessary to be in a group (or convoy, which I heard once before)?
