Hi everyone,
I play Eve online for almost a month now and i have focused completely on the mission running part of it. I started with lvl 1's and completely dominated them with the Catalyst (i'm Gallente). Than i started playing lvl 2's and after almost losing my Catalyst bought a Cruiser and with a lot of trouble managed to collect enough money to purchase a BC. Now i dominate lvl 2 missions (including Human Cattle) except maybe the Blockade when i blow up the ships in the wrong order. Now i want to try lvl 3's but as i read a lot of comments which advise to start only when you have like 8-10 Million SP and i only have 1.8 Million SP i'm a bit worried (understatement). I think the following skills that i have are relevant: Drones V Drone Interfacing III Scout Drones III Combat Drones III Gunnery IV Medium Hybrid III Electronics IV Electronis Warfare IV Engineering IV Mechanic IV Hull Upgrades IV BC II Cruiser III Frigate IV Spaceship Command IV
Am i ready to do lvl 3 missions, or should i train additional skills first (please advise which ones then). Thanks for any advice.

Running missions is not if u have enough sp or not. It always the pilot.
Go read some forums about lvl 3 missions. Information is ur live.
Have a go with 1 easy mission. And try out the rats.
after a few misisons u will get the hand of it.
GL. reminds me when i started lvl 3. --------------------------------------------> Plz tickle my brain. I wanna have a Brainfart ! -------------------------------------------->

I'm doing lv 3 in a BC since some time now. I've started them below 1M SP.
They key is information, what hardener to fit, what kind of damage to make ... I've seen people loose BS to lv3 so be always ready to leave if you have to, and have fun, lv3 are alot more tough and fun than lv2 :)

I started level IVs with 3 mill sp so that hardly matters.
If you do most level IIs half asleep you are probably ready for level IIIs. You should get someone with you for the harder missions before you solo them tho. Missions like Mordus headhunters, massive attack and downing the slaves can be though the first few times.
And always read up on the mission and use rat specific damage and tank.

Best advice in the thread. Providing you can fit a decent (sustainable) tank to your ship, then you should be fine for level 3s.

Possibly avoid The Blockade too. Great fun, but wow, if they all aggro you (and you trigger the next spawn) = bigtime hurt. |

use BC for level 3, with decent missiles skills, and some decent pilot skills, they are easy.

If you want to go Brutix then get your cap skills (Energy Management/Energy Systems Operation) up to 3 or 4 and you're golden. If you want to go Myrmidon and let the drones kill stuff while you're 60-80km away you can do them right now. I'm running lvl3's with 950k lp in a Drake, it's a non issue really if you harden correctly.
Besides, if you can kill one npc and get out alive, you can kill them all

Edited by: Syrec on 20/12/2006 20:59:41 You don't need 10 million SP to do level 3s.
You can do all level 3s pretty much invincible with this:
[Drake]
HI: 7x heavy launcher, 1x tractor beam MD: 3x large shield extender II, shield recharger II, 2x active hardeners LO: 2x Shield Power relays, 2x ballistic control system
5x light drones. ammo and drones based on mission rat type
Replace BCS with PDS if your skills give you fitting problems. If you don't want to spend ISK all of it can be T1 except the extenders.
Add 2x shield recharge rigs if you want to go AFK for a drink during the hardest parts of the hardest level 3 missions.
Train shield and missile skills. Then go and buy tons of skill books in generally used skills and train the first 3 levels in them.. cap skills, weapon upgrade skills, etc. The lower levels train so fast you should train them before speccing.
Also dont loot in the BC. Use this to loot:
1x destroyer HI: 6x salvagers, 2x tractor beams MID: AB, Cap recharger LO: nano fibers
destroyers l1, salvaging l2 or 3, science IV for tractor or dont use them
you'll get enough salvage to make your own rigs (even with 0 manufacturing skills) which will be useful when you do l4 missions or if you want to beef up your l3 ship

Looks fine, although I'd suggest getting BC to level 4, skills to use a T2 medium rep, and improve the skills that affect your capacitor. Avoid the harder missions (Mordus, Spy Stash etc) until you're comfortable.

Since nobody else has suggested it, I will. Take a friend or 3 until you get an idea of what they're like. L3's can be a lot of fun for a group of cruisers or a few BC's.
Read the forums and look for which missions people have trouble with, so you can arrange for help. If you're not sure about a mission, go in with a shuttle or noob frigate first. Take note of what aggros you first and which direction to head to gain range or align for warp. If it's really bad you could cancel the mission, but you can't do that too often when you first start out or you'll lose access to the L3's. If things go wrong and you lose your ship and can't complete it, make sure to bookmark your wreck while you're still in the mission. Once you cancel the mission you can go back to your bookmark and recover some of your fittings.
I do L3's a a BC all the time, but I've got a massive tank and usually aggro the entire level on purpose to make it more fun. (and they all come to use so it's more convenient to loot) Lottsa fun if the tank holds. lol Been thinking of seeing if it can handle L4's but I don't think I can do enough damage to kill a BS in a reasonable time.

Lvl 3s really arent that bad for the most part. I just run em in crusers. I assume from ure post that you have Gallente trained up. You can use a thorax pretty effectively, but I dont know if you have the skills to fit the guns. Maybe try a vexor + heavy tank + drones? Your drone skills are the best you seem to have.
But yes, just Eve-info your missions b4 you run them so you fit hardeners and drone types accordingly, and maybe bring a friend for the first two. You should be able to run them as long as you like a challenge (like I do). If you want to just breeze through them w/o trouble (or fun), go for the drake and noob them like some people have suggested, then train up for the raven and noob lvl 4s.

Edited by: Rima Khan on 21/12/2006 13:20:30 Thanks for the advice everyone. I tried a few missions and they all succeeded. The Blockade was quite difficult but because i read which ship activated the next wave i managed to clear this mission with a few warp-outs (i though BC's would be more dangerous than cruisers, but the intitial 3 cruisers gave me a lot of trouble as i almost didn't damage them). So far so good EDIT: This is Magius Paulus accidently posting on another character...

lvl 3 are easy with a battlecruiser, if u can get a myrmidon you can cut through lvl3 like butter , if u use a brutix a couple of the missions are hard though.
check out the missions on http://eveinfo.com/missions/3/
most of the l3 are really easy with the correct reistances aswell make sure you use armor hardners! and the right ones for each missions

I'm doing lvl 3s currently in a Cyclone. I've got 1.4 million skillpoints.
I've lost 1 Cyclone this way (got hung on a rock during warp-out). But for the most part the missions go okay.
As soon as I can afford it I'll get a Typhoon. With at battleship I should be able to cut through these level 3s in less than 20 minutes.

Been doing a few lvl III's in my thorax. It gets rough if I'm not super careful though, so I'll wait until I've got a hyperion and just use that for the lvl 4's too. ________________________________________________ Login Speed: |

ARRGHHH..... Forum ate my post :\
Pay the extra for a Myrmidon and then tank the hell out of it. Get BC III and medium projectile trained up to at least III. Very few missions come close to breaking my tank.
Most missions: HIGH: 5 x 650 scout artillery (no gun bonus on the ship, so use guns that don't need cap) 1 Drone link augment (60KM drone control range with my skills) MID: 3 x Eutectic cap rechargers 1 10MN II 1 Tracking comp Low: 1 MAR II 1 Gyrostab Whatever mix of hardeners/EANM fits the mission
Missions where you need a very strong tank (extravaganza bonus room, spy stash, pirate invasion, etc): HIGH: same MID: 5 x Eutectic or 4 + the AB LOW: 2 x MAR II Hardeners/EANM II
Drones: 5 x Hammerheads 5 x Valkeries 5 x Hobgoblins

Same here. Lvl 3 with the Thorax is heavy. I have the problem that my 250mm Compressed Coils operate at a max distance of 44km if I use iron charges, but my drones can only engage targest within 35km. I have to get within 35km launch them, turn around and use the AB. When there are only 2 enemies left I change to iridum charges and get closer. But this bastards still do amazing dmg. I always have to kite them and this takes too much time.
Last Lvl 3 mission I tried was "The spy stash". I could finish the first 5 waves with the above described tactics. But I have no chance after the second jump. The Heavy Missile Batteries are too strong. I cannot get within range if I don't want to die. I hope a thermal shield hardener helps here?!? But I have to wait for the skill to finish. So bye bye 700K bonus
