Hi
My ASUS G72X laptop that I've used 2 years playing Eve now will just Power off at random times, I see no error messages,
This only happens while using Eve or Eve mon.
There are no thermal related issues,,
And I see no error messages.
My laptop is running win 7 64 bit
vid card is NVIDIA-« GeForce-« GTX 260M with 1024MB GDDR3 VRAM
Mobile Intel-« P43 Express Chipset +ICH10
dual core P8700/
Guess I am wondering if this is a Eve related issue..Maybe some others are experiencing this?

Not sure if this would help, but you could go and make sure you are running all the latest drivers, especially your video drivers. Or maybe run a memory test to make sure your RAM isn't bad. A bad stick of RAM can really do some weird things. Also, first thing I thought of is an overheating issue with the GPU or CPU, but you say there are none.

Confirmed, test your ram for start, a error in ram can do weird crap on the OS. Get some testing soft like Prime95, LinX, Intel Burn Test, and let them rip, they will tax your rig to the max, cpu and ram both, if it doesn't crash there, your hardware is ok.
Second, if you have the time and will, backup your current windows, install a fresh copy, only essential drivers and stuff + EvE, still shutting down? Well, at least you know its not the fault of win7 in that case. Then you try older drivers and stuff.
If you are sure its not overheating or something banal like that... |

Another possible hardware issue is a 'dying' PSU. Check in your bios on startup that your voltage channels conform closly to there given levels, too large a variance can cause shut offs. |

I just went through this on my desktop gaming rig, been multi-boxing for a couple years now. Two shutdowns on the same day, hours apart. R.I.P. dual graphics cards.  Maybe your laptop needs a cleaning. If you aren't monitoring your GPU temps, you should as that's the only way you're going to get a warning. Don't waste your time petitioning it. All you'll get is an apology and an assurance that the client can't effect your hardware, because boot.ini never happened. Whatever you do, don't keep pressing your luck, if it still boots up.

GPU-Z for monitoring video card temps. If it's been awhile, get some cans of compressed air and give the laptop a good cleaning. Make sure to pull the battery out first and you can open some of the panels on the underside as well.
RAM test as mentioned above. |
