Was giving up on finding a use for the Thrasher but how about using it as a salvager? 8 high slots allow you to fit loads of Salvager 1 modules and a tractor beam or two. Only just got Science up to lvl 4 so I can use a tractor beam....can you use more than one? Don't see why not.
Anyway assuming you can how about the following (should fit but not tested yet):
PURE SALVAGE THRASHER HIGHS: 6 x Salvager 1, 2 x Tractor Beam MIDS: ab or mwd, Sensor Booster?, Soemthing else LOWS: Expanded Cargo Bays
SALVAGE/SHOOTER HIGHS: 3 x Salvager 1, 1 x Tractor Beam, 4 x Small Auto's or 4 x Arty MIDS: ab, webber, Sensor Booster LOWS: Armour plate, small armour rep, possibly a tracking enhancer?
As I say, can't guarantee fitting of the above but you get the general idea. Any thoughts?

I've done roughly the same thing with my Thrasher. Works pretty well for me so far.
Straight salvage: Hi: 2x small arty, 2x tractor beams, 4x salvagers Mid: Named AB, 2x sensor boosters Low: Armor tank
Ratting/salvage: Hi: 6x small arty, 2x salvagers Mid and Low slots same as above.

Yup been using my old Thrasher as a salvage ship for awhile now.
It's only weakness is it's cap. So in the mid slots use an AB and 2 cap rechargers. Not batteries as they use too much cpu.

Cormorants better ;)
Also go w/4/4 on salvagers and tractors get in the middle of a clump of wrecks tractor in start salvagers while moving tractors to other wrecks. |

Train up your cap skills. I've got my cap skills maxed out and my setup above never gets below 1/3 cap even when I'm salvaging a couple dozen wrecks at a time.

Why is a Cormorant better...only 1 low slot so I'd have thought it wasn't as good?

why not a battleship like the phoon? stick an AB on it... full rack of tractors and salvagers, 4 expanders then the rest cap rechargers and relays. AND you get to use a drone bay... with 4 expanders yer looking at 1400 to 1600 cargo space... can't go wrong there. =) --------------------------- by: GinoShin on 21/11/2006 11:41:44 whats evemon is it like a jamican wiseman? |

Skills are maxed. With 2 tractor beams going nonstop and 6 salvagers going nonstop it runs low.
I do lvl 4 missions in my Raven then warp back to station and grab the Thrasher. With as many wrecks as can be there I guess I just have too much happening, too fast.
I'll sit in the middle of a bunch of wrecks. Target 6 of them and pull 2 wrecks within range. Turn off the tractor beams and reset them on 2 more wrecks. While those are being pulled in I fire up the salvagers. Even with all cap related skills at 5 the cap does run low. The only thing I may not have maxed is if there is a skill that lowers the cap usage of the salvagers or tractor beams.
I personally have never run completely out, but have come close. While several other alliance members have switched to this ship as their salvage ship due to my description of how well it works. Many of them are rather new players and their skills aren't maxed yet and will take months to get there.
So using cap rechargers solves the problem for them and removes the need for me to even think about whether my cap will run out.

Cost! I think I'm doing well if I have about 15 mil ISK in the bank...LOL That's why I'm going salvaging....you can make stacks (well, for me it's stakcs anyway) in a pretty short time :)

Honestly? Speed pure and simple. The Thrasher can spin on a dime and still has a decent cargo bay.
My first salvage ship was my old mining Apoc. It had better cargo, cap and even in a straight run out ran my Thrasher because I slapped a bunch of nanos on it. But even with all my nav skills maxed the Thrasher is just way more nimble and gets to it's max speed near instantly, while the Apoc lumbered up to max.
Guess it's like a minivan vs. a Mack Truck. The truck holds more and in a straight run can out run most minivans, but the minivan is more nimble and hit's it's top speed a lot faster.

the pure salvager i've bene using:
3x small tractor 5x Salvager 1x 1mn AB 2x Barton Cap rechargers 2x inertial stabs
Clears L3 missions uber-fast. Minimal cap issues... I can't see the need for sensor boosters as your tractor range is only slightly larger than your lock range. Warning: May contain flaming, trolling, swearing, typos, crimes against grammar, obscure reference to old films, in jokes, rambling, ranting and references to EvE. |
