Try it with sound turned off.

I would say the first suspect is your Onboard Sound.
Make sure you are using the correct driver (not just a default Windows driver).
You could also try disabling the Sound in the game to see if the problem goes away (I believe you can do this by setting audio=0 in your eve prefs.ini file).

Issue at gates now has a patch and is downloadable from the news section.
To get it load game until it asks for password and click on news. You can't miss it.

"Issue at gates" does not reset whole PC, it just drops you back to desktop.
The sound disable idea is feasible. If that doesn't work then you are looking at RAM timing problems most likely. Start fiddling with the BIOS motherboard settings.

Opps, forgot about the dual core bug. That'll be your problem. Eve don't em at the moment. There is a setting that reduces the problem for the time being.

dual core and hyperthreading is a DX problem only MS can solve. Coders just can offer a dirty hack around.
The rebooting could hint at improper heat management or a half-dead memory chip or memory controller somewhere. Try disabling sound first. --*=*=*--
The cause for this is not yet known, but we do have a possible fix in testing. by Sharkbait | 2006.09.20 |

disable onboard sound in BIOS. this fixed reboots for several people already, including myself (I have similar setup to yours, and once I disabled onboard audio, not a single restart/ctd)

Do you get a BSOD or no? Have you tested other games to see if this problem also occurs there? It'd be helpful if you could isolate the issue to being solely an EVE issue.
I experienced something similar when i had a bad video card. I'd wager it's to do with that, or the 64-bit architecture of your CPU, not sure but i dont think eve responds well/has been tweaked with/for it. Worst case scenario, its bad memory or other vital components :( (Download and run a reputable memory tester, they're free.)
I haven't played with 64bit processing yet, but there is probably a way to force the client to run in 32bit mode for compatibility. For example- with older games that dislike Hyperthreading, you can go into window's task manager, right-click the running process that is your game, go into "set affinity" and set it to use just one of the available CPU numbers. Maybe there's something for 64/32 bit in there? Or, right click the EVE shortcut icon and go to properties, thats where you can force compatibility modes.
More info is needed to zero in on your issue. Any number of things can cause this "recovery from a critical error" stuff. Check your crash log dumps, etc, maybe dig up info there. cheers.

Edited by: Tunajuice on 22/12/2006 23:11:08 if your entire computer is turning off.. it MAY be a driver issue. Make sure you have the newest bios and all system drivers including videocard and chipset.
But most likely.. it is some kind of hardware problem. Improperly installed CPU heat sink, insufficient case venting, undersized or poor quality PSU, ram timing set too aggressive, ram voltage set too low, cpu frequency set too high, cpu voltage set too low, or some component is faulty (CPU, ram, motherboard, power supply)
I would think it is not a eve problem, and a computer built by someone without enough experience problem.

All valid points but considering it runs other games perfectly and gives trouble only while playing EVE only suggest that the problem is with EVE.
Suffering from similer problem too. :(

EVE uses DX calls that other games don't make use of. It's also very CPU dependant (having a top of the line graphics card won't make much difference from a mid-range one).
Install the optional patch, and see if that helps. ---

Just turning off sound in EVE from the [ESC]-menu will cure your problem.
If the crashes continue after disabling sound and installing the optional jpg/warp-to-gate bugfix for EVE you might have a shaky hardware or driver elsewhere.
EVE is very good at finding hardware related problems like nearly out-of-specs RAM components, local thermal problems and nearly perfect RAM driver components. --*=*=*--

I made a post in another thread about the same issue, there seems to be alot of the same issue. what I found to fix the issue for me, I completely uninstalled SP2 and reinstalled it the issue was resolved. When I ran windows update again the issue reoccured. to me it looks to be an issue with a windows update. And I know your going to ask which one(s) but im at work and cant remember the update number but give it a shot and see if it works you never know
