Edited by: Nitro G on 26/11/2003 02:38:56 I got a new GeForce fx5600 and I got a prob. I start up eve and the eve picture appears, then I see another eve program in the task bar for a quick second then it disappears. After that, Eve just stays on the opening eve picture and i right click it on the task bar and I close it.... I have tried reinstalling eve, got directx 9, got the latest drivers from nvidia, tried to start eve in about 4 different resolutions, and I tried that sound acceleration method. Nothing. I don't know of any other thing to try... Its a kickazz graphics card so im clueless any help?!?

I bought a FX5600 in the beginning, since after opening the package got the info that my then current graphics card wasn't supported. I was not really happy - as you may imagine - that I did not get it to work at all with the game. It took me a while to find out that it was NOT the graphics card that was at fault, but its combination with the sound card - the most likely problem being a different way their drivers handle a certain not really well documented MS multimedia interface. I could actually run with the card when removing the sound card or switching AUDIO completely off in prefs.ini ! Having had this experience, I then got my shop to lend me one of their standard basic soundblaster cards instead of buying it - to the same effect, a NO-GO, but at least I didn't spend the money this time. I then "borrowed" an old GeForce2 card from a friend and it happily played - with both sound cards and the full suite fo drivers. To that extend - I checked EVERY single nVidia driver available at the time that would support the card - about a dozen, and had the SAME effect all the time and hardly any noticable difference. While I believe the PC configuration to be of not much importance here, the OS may be - but anyway, I'm using W2K with up to SP2 on a PIII GX board. I gave up on the FX5600 a while ago, gave it to a friend who tried it in his computer with W98 and WXP - and it didn't work for him as well. So for those getting it to work, count yourself lucky - as I surely liked the nice graphics when testing with sound off - and maybe kindly state what sound card/OS combo you are using.
Kind regards and happy gaming. | "In nature, there are neither rewards nor punishments - there are consequences." - ( R.G. Ingersoll 1833-1899 ) |

Could try this
Steps:
1, run dxdiag which normally sits in program files>directx>setup>dxdiag
2, once loaded go to "display" tab and uncheck direct3d acceleration
3, reboot..
4, reload the dxdiag program and "enable" the check box "direct3d acceleration" . 5, reboot..
6, play eve
If this works the info came from Jack Brennan of Techell corp

I downgraded to 45.23 and everything started working fine, I dont even have to turn off hw acceleration for my audio.
according to my card manufacturer 45.23 is the latest fully 'fixed' driver, they are currently working on a forceware5 one but its not yet ready.

Edited by: Hakera on 01/12/2003 23:34:58 I have the same card. The only trouble I get is when running 2 accounts getting a CTD on one which is fixed by turning sun occlusion off.
The second is a black screen after logging in where my character selection should be. To fix this and it works 90% of the time I enter the password incorrectly once and then try again with th eright one and for some reason it works.
