Greetings, My name is Joffy Aulx-Gao and I am excited to announce my candidacy for CSM XI.
I have been playing Eve full-time since 2013 and proudly serve as the Diplomat for Stay Frosty and the A Band Apart Alliance. I have participated and helped organize many of Stay FrostyGÇÖs FFA in-game events, and fought in the NEO Tournament as well as the most recent Alliance Tournamant. I was one of the first players to join Stay Frosty and have been instrumental in working alongside Rixx Javix to make it one of the greatest Pirate Corporations in New Eden. But I am most proud of the friendships and connections that I have made over the years and I believe strongly that Eve is one of the greatest community of players in the world.
I probably come to Eve from a rather different perspective than most players. I have a form of Muscular Dystrophy known as Pompe Disease. This means that I am primarily confined to a bed or a wheelchair, mostly due to problems with my back. And I can only move my hands, fingers and face. Playing Eve was extremely challenging at first, but IGÇÖve learned to adjust the UI for less mouse movements and work around my inability to talk on comms. I donGÇÖt believe in letting my own challenges stand in my way and I suppose this fighting spirit is the real reason I want to represent you on the CSM this year.
My platform is built around helping players from all walks of life enjoy Eve. And to see it continue to expand to include more players from all backgrounds. Certainly my own situation has inspired me to help those in similar situations understand that they to can enjoy our wonderful game. But I also want to focus on Low Sec space as itGÇÖs my home, because I believe this area within the game still needs a lot of attention.
I want you to know that I will be your voice and that I am ready to earn your vote. IGÇÖve never taken anything for granted, and serving the players is something that I will do with pride and distinction if chosen to do so. There are issues that continue to persist in Eve and these need to be addressed, our voices need to be heard and I will strive to be the conduit thru which they can be.
As Diplomat and Director in the A Band Apart Alliance IGÇÖve had the distinct pleasure of working with our Corporations in all areas of Eve, from piracy, to industry, wormholes, and most recently, with Null Sec Sov. I strongly believe that this perspective has given me a unique ability to understand how they all work together to create a better environment for all of us. And IGÇÖd like to see those connections expanded in the near future. We stand on the edge of drastic change, with new and exciting additions to the game being added quickly. It is more important now than ever to have knowledgeable and experienced players representing you on the CSM.
Player issues are ever-changing, but I have spoken to many players and these are some of the ones I believe elicit the strongest opinions (in no particular order):
- That warfare links needs to be changed so itGÇÖs not just a required tool for regular PvP but a tool thatGÇÖs risky and more activity focused, not just an alt in deep space.
Suitonia has some nice ideas on this matter written on his blog here https://suitonia.wordpress.com/
- T3 dessies are dominating small FW plexes way too much nothing can really challenge them so i suggest banning them from small FW plexes and let them only enter medium and large.
- Ban Warp core stabilizers from FW plexes! Ok on a more serious note, the Factional Warfare system needs to reward PvP and willingness to fight, the best tactic to make ISK should not be to run away.
- With the new changes for battlecruisers it would be really nice to have a FW plex where battlecruisers is the largest ship that can enter.
- Many of us know how annoying it is when we have so many chat channels in the same window an arrow shows up and we canGÇÖt see all our channels, would be so nice to increase the number of chat channels we can see before the arrow shows up.
IGÇÖd love if the disabled among our community came to me with ideas so we can make EVE better and more accesseful for all of us.

He's incredibly passionate about the game, very helpful and a deadly pilot.
He's always thinking outside the box with fits and tactics and lends a helping hand to all players in the alliance
If anyone was to represent lowsec, it would be the man that calls it his hunting ground

I cannot recommend Joffy enough and he will be getting my full support and my vote.

Joffy is one of the nicest, most sincere, and dedicated players you'll ever meet. He's knowledgeable about many play styles, inquisitive, thoughtful, and smart. He'll be getting one of my top tier votes not just because he's a friend, but because I think he would be an excellent CSM member. Just as his RL challenges do not prevent him from achieving remarkable success in-game, they will not prevent him from achieving remarkable success as a CSM either.
Best wishes for a successful election, Joffy! <3

I've known Joffy for the past two years. He's always impressed me with this knowledge of the game and level-headedness.
Personality-wise, he has the rare combination of being highly skilled but not letting it go to his head. He's primarily a low sec pirate but has spent time in wormhole space and has an appreciation for the environment and culture there. He can be ruthless and unforgiving in-game while still being a pleasant person to talk to or debate with when the fight is over. In talking with him over the past few years I've found that he has a lot of good solid opinions but is also open to revising them based on a valid argument or new information.
I was impressed with Joffy even before I found out about his condition, and can personally attest to the fighting spirit he mentioned in his OP. For all these reasons I strongly recommend you consider voting for Joffy.

Joffy is a very engaged player that seems to have a level head when it comes to gameplay and mechanics. He's a very nice guy that is always willing to discuss solutions to a problem, instead of simply complaining.
He's also very active in the EVE community. Always helpful in the Broadcast4Reps channels and chatty on Twitter, he's proven himself to be a solid member that gives EVE a good rep.
The only complaint I have is that he's not in my corp. But, like I always say - if you don't fly Brave, at least Stay Frosty.

Great to see you running for CSM as well Joffy!
You will certainly be getting my vote!
I have known Joffy for well over a year and have spend time alongside and against him in space. Anyone facing Joffy's guns is pretty sure to perish as his skills and knowledge in the game rival those of the best players in EVE Online. His deep understanding of the game itself make him supremely skilled and a good judgement on whats right and wrong with current and future game-mechanics.
Additionally and more importantly Joffy is a credit to his alliance ABA as chief diplomat; his patience and excellent communications have contributed to calming dire, difficult situations. I have personally witnessed his charm on this front.
With these two great attributes combined I hope to serve alongside you at the next CSM sir!
All the best and count on me for support!

I'm glad to see someone from low sec running.
You mention a few things about faction war. There have been 2 things that players pushed for and ccp said they would do years ago to encourage pvp in faction war plexes, but they never did.
Those 2 things are timer rollbacks, and better intel tools so we can defend plexes. Preferably the latter would be some sort of intel tool that would allow faction war pilots to have real time intel on where plexes are being taken so they can go defend the plex before the timer expires.
Here is a post that discusses this a bit more in detail: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=6082412#post6082412
Unfortunately ccp never managed to get these changes in.
Would you push for these changes if you were elected to csm?

Hello Cearain
I'm glad you came with constructive feedback.
I've lived in factional Space the last 2 years as a pirate shooting everybody so i'm aware of all those farmers and i want to somehow make it better to fight for your PLEX than run away, whether it's timer rollbacks or rewarding pvp more, Something has to be done.
I'm a bit unsure about the Intel thing because if it will be tied to notifications every guy in FW will be spammed to hell and back, it will not be much else than annoying.
If you got time one of the upcoming days feel free to convo me ingame. I'd love to hear more ideas and feedback.

Thanks for the response Joffy.
I think the intel may have been through the use of the map as opposed to notifications. I don't really care how they do it. If people wanted to turn off (or filter the notifications to be within a certain jump range) that would solve the problem of spam. IMO it doesn't matter how they deliver the intel. I certainly agree not everyone in faction war would use this intel. But those who like to fight for sov definitely would.
IMO CCP needs to follow through with their promises on both of these measures so rabbit plexing can be constrained. That is the key to making fighting for sov fun. And I strongly suspect eve would do much better if there were some fun sov wars to fight in as opposed to just random pvp.
Giving people rewards for pvp (in an unexploitable way) is unlikely to change much. But it wouldn't hurt.
I'm happy to talk about all sorts of faction war proposals and topics but IMO most of them won't change very much. The two proposals I mentioned are the most important proposals to change fw sov warfare from the fightless alt grind it currently is.
I would be interested in knowing if CCP still would like fw sov to be won by pvp or if they are happy with the current alt rabbit plexing system. They seemed pretty content from the csm X minutes.
BTW the top 3 vp gainers for faction war in the last week are: 1. Orn Lorn 2. Monk-Black fast 3. xFleuryx
I can't post killboard links but feel free to look these guy's killboards up yourself. vp is gained when you complete a faction war plex it will either increase the amount the system is contested if you run offensive plexes or it will decrease the contested level if it is a defensive plex. So these "warriors" did the most to help contest or uncontest systems for their faction. Is that the vision?
I get the stats here:

Last week I had the pleasure of having a short conversation with Joffy on slack. I had first heard of him at Eve LA when Lantana Grey and Lanctharus were discussing his candidacy. Joffy is extremely articulate and thoughtful, and is willing to listen to other view points that conflict with his own. My only worry is that he will have a difficult time getting his voice heard during remote calls at the csm summits. I've heard this voiced by a few other people that I've talked to. Joffy, can you address this?

But no matter what we need to remember that the summits is just a part of being elected on the CSM, it's about discussing changes, listening to player feedback and warning CCP if they do catastrophic Things XD hopefully that doesn't happen. I've known Joffy for couple months and he's a really great guy and great (mainly lowsec) PvPer.
He's got very strong advantage over other lowsec oriented candidates - he's independent and not part of any large power bloc. This means his perspective on improving things will cover everyone's gameplay, not only the ones in the interest of his own alliance/power bloc.
Vote for Joffy, as this can really improve Eve for everyone!

I ran into Joffs on the Tweetfleet Slack (invites from Steve Ronuken's page here!.. open it from IGB). Innocently enough, I asked him a question about how he sets up his own EVE. I was interested in it because I have issues with input and GUI of my own and I was very curious what he did to address his own limited mobility.
He's a very open person, and in our talking he shared a picture with me of himself. I was quite struck by how sincere his expression in the photo seems.. but more than that I saw a quote written at the bottom that said, "I just want to help you".
I think that quote describes Joffs very well. He is a person who lives a very different kind of life than I do, in my opinion a more difficult life. But he is always very upbeat and positive and he wants to make a change in the world and make a name for himself.
Joffs is a PVPer. He has quite an ego about his capabilities and I suggest you hit him up sometime for a discussion of fits and combat. I think if he were on CSM he would give CCP and EVE the time and dedicate CSM needs (unlike a lot of people sitting in CSM this year). He also knows what he's talking about, and is organized and persuasive.
He has my vote.

Yup what Sibbs said, Joffy is a genuinely nice guy and just wants to help other people. I don't for one second think Joffy has a hidden selfish motive, he's just genuinely that way and his time in channels such as B4R shows that he's not just there for the glory and self promotion.
Joffy is the kind of person we need in the CSM. |

I've worked with Joffy quite a bit over the last 12 months. He is quite possibly the nicest, most genuine person I have ever met in EVE. His work with B4R does nothing but solidify that. I would love to see Joffy be a voice for lowsec and disabled players on the CSM... I can't think of anyone better for the job.
He would be an asset to have on the CSM.

For the little I've known of A Band Apart, I can say their warm welcoming approach to newbros into pvp and upbringing leads to a better Eve experience. The whole core of ABA aligns to what Eve online is about, ie. to have a good time. I think lowsec deserves a major upgrade. I remember Sugarkyle doing a fine job. And I believe Joffy's contribution to CSM will be fruitful to the community.

Hi Joffy,
Ganking is a Top-of-mind issue in hisec, esp in the carebear community.
The key feature of ganking is a profit motive. There is NO profit motive in anti-ganking. Also with the current game mechanics ganking has become low risk for high reward.
What would you do to restored the balance?
Thieving pirates discuss INTEGRITY; Anarchist gankers give us LAWS; and Whoring merc's cry then blow off clients with INSULTS.

What would you do to restored the balance? Firstly, I would say that the perception of ganking is very different to the reality of it, I would also say that it is not necessarily the primary concern of mission runners, and most haulers know ways to reduce the risk.
I have had highsec alts doing hauling, mining and other activities, and whilst ganking is of course something to be aware of, it was not a problem for my characters.
To answer your other questions, I dont believe anti-gankers do what they do for profit, however, I think it is a shame that anti-ganking is purely reactive at present, that is, after seeing intel, anti-gankers have to sit on a gate waiting for the gank attempt to begin, and hope they can assist in time.
I feel that there are things haulers and miners can do to reduce the likelihood of being ganked, but, as with everything else in eve, if someone really wants to take you out, they will. As to the risk vs reward, there is always room for change in mechanics, but, I am not really sure how I would change this particular one, but I am open to suggestions from both sides to improve it.

There really aren't enough good things to say about Joffy. He has many great qualities (including his insane love for this game) but I think the one that will be most useful for him as a CSM member would be the fact that he's one of the most level headed people you will ever meet.
He knows this game inside and out and he's one hell of a solo PvPer. He's the gold standard in ST-FR. :)
I think his platform is one that is easily overlooked. I think he will be able to help bring great insight to CCP for how to make the game more accessible for people with some manner of disability.
Plus, he's cool!

Joffy has my endorsement - I can't think of anyone else who 100% deserves to be on the CSM than him. I have had the pleasure of knowing Joffy for a while now; we met in B4R and he really cares about the community and it's players, as well as great knowledge of the game and low-sec. His experience is also very unique from most, which gives him a very unique perspective on how Eve can be bettered for accessibility - an important topic that has been untouched by past CSM members.
+5 votes for Joffy from me! :)

You are an inspiration to me. As someone who is very nearsighted I have to say that having a CSM who fights for those of us who have trouble with the UI and not being able to see it clearly due to the lack of font/display controls is hard to play EVE with. For instance there is no font control in the game browser. What you see is what you get. This is not acceptable. The amount of obstacles you have overcome and the gallantry you display makes me proud of you. I would love to have you represent us as a CSM.
Anyone with a limitation is just as capable at mastering the intricacies of this game and we should not have to battle with the UI to accomplish this. Thank you for running! You are my number 1 choice for CSM!

There are many Things with the UI that can be improved from font size to placement of buttons and even how you control certain Things. I hope i can adress those to CCP. Not everything will be looked at but hopefully some of the changes will be implemented.

Hi Joffy,
I like your candidacy. Here's a quick question...
Quote: You decide to bump a lazy miner off their rock. The mining barge you decide to annoy has a mass of 20,000,000 kg. Which of the following ship/velocity choices would bump them the farthest, creating the most rage?
a) 10,000,000 kg with a velocity of 1300m/s
b) 20,000,000 kg with a velocity of 1000m/s
c) 100,000,000 kg with a velocity of 600m/s

I noticed even in the last csm minutes there is still no mention of the things ccp promised faction war players back in 2013 like timer rollbacks and better intel tools. These were things with lots of player support. Now they switched out the teams that work on faction war and no one on the csm even mentions these items. It's like a brand new day.
Then people wonder why players couldn't care less about the csm. I hope Joffy can change this.
