I have only recently started the game, but I think that the main difference between wow and eve is the skill system. Because EVE allows skills to train while you are not logged on makes it easier to leave the game for a bit, and not feel that you are falling behind. This allows for abit of more real life.
To attract new players, I think the starting tutorial should be redone. At least the last agent that you are referred to should be changed. Maybe I missed something, but I think players should be directed to one of the event missions to see more of the local star systems.
Also, I have not seen any emphasis on the ability to run dual clients for multiple ships. I have been having a great deal of fun flying a fleet around. Perhaps that is frowned upon in player corps, but it is an incredible feature which looks very impressive on even modest systems.

Blizzard takes WAAAAAYYYYY too long to release new content for WoW. Its been what? 2+ years and the first patch is still not here. It takes like 2 months to get to max level and then there's nothing to do there. Frankly original EQ was a lot more meaningful then WoW is atm.
Eve is just different, I like that you don't have to spend all your free time trying to advance your character cause here your character is advancing without you. Too bad PvE here is horrifically boring.

You sound like you like the squirrel wheel of grinding for top gear, only to see blizzard introduce new top gear... and once you reach that, even more new gear.

Last Feb I decided to start to play a MMO. So I decided to research all the MMO's on the market and figure out where I wanted to start. Now, I have played many MMO's in the past but there are a few things that I have learned about my playing style...
Living in my bi-polar world I am very fickle on how I play games, any type of game. I am obsessed with it for a while, then I only play now and then, then I hardcore game, then I lay off for a while.. you see the pattern. Also, I get interested in other aspects of the game and want to fool around with that for a while. For example, playing EQ2 I love to kill things, then for some reason I really wanted to build stuff, so I started building things, ect.
The biggest thing that I hated was the grind. For me to get more exp, I had to kill stuff, and kill more stuff, try to find a group of people and kill more things. :)
The one selling point of EvE that has made me fall in love with it is the skill based system. If I choose not to play for 7 days, I am still advancing twards a goal that I have set. The only thing that I am loosing is ISK/Minerals that I have to activly play for. Also, EvE is soooo varied on how you like to play. Build stuff? Sure! Kill things, sure! I can be as focused or not-focused on EvE and still be able to feel like I am progressing my toon. :)
Don't get me wrong, WoW/EQ/EQ2 (kinda ;))/D2/COH are great games and they should not be knocked. To each their own, everyone has a life and everyone has a gaming style.. mine happens to mesh well with EvE. :)

the addon hasn't released yet, true but many patches with new content instances, battlegrounds, factions, gear. all require massive farming and grinding = people busy

SIMILARITIES
Grind for money, spend money to grind better.
Trivial storyline and otherwise unimaginative NPC interactions.
NPC reactions are linear and boring. Poor use of AI mechanics to imitate real things.
Only in-game skills get better, not real world skills for the most part.
Pretend to be someone/something you're not.
Keep paying for something after you already bought it.
When the game dies, all your time and money spent dies with it.
No goals. Not like you have "virtual offspring" to feed or something.
Game Farmers from 2nd and 3rd world countries sell game money to feed their children.
Consumes your otherwise valuable time.
You could read a book, or post an idea in this thread, brush up on your communication and typing skills. Go fly a kite, I don't know. Anything other than completely wasting your time and money. You see the similarities now, right?

I have played both, Eve first then spent a year on WoW got to lvl 60 on a few characters then came back to Eve i agree there are alot of similarities but the one thing that wins it for me is the Eve 1 universe instead of differant realms. Means more to me knowing my mates can join without worrying if they can join the same realm or if its full an just jump into the same universe as all us Eveites Merry Christmas to you all To secure ourselves against defeat lies in our own hands, but the opportunity of defeating the enemy is provided by the enemy themselves. Well you certainly can't start as different races, unless you want to spend weeks jumping from server to server to actually find each other. And when you do, now what? Mine for ore? Hunt pirates? Be a pirate? Up to you, but its not really "one server" like everyone thinks it is. Everytime you go through a stargate you could be loading into another server. I'll agree its better than having multiple realms to choose from in the beginning, but what if everyone gets bored enough to meet in the same solar system one day? *cough* I've heard Jita is a good example of how this sort of "one server" idea just doesn't work. I would love to see one giant server with everyone on it rather than many different servers connected together that you just load from one to another.

Just a bunch of positive remarks about wow, to compensate the anti-wowing
1. almost instant action - this is very nice when you don't have much time to play 2. addictive to play at low levels - learning character mechanics & skills is nice & fun (worked for me on 1-20 lvl), very good experience for a starting player 3. very solo-player friendly, it's easy to join a group of adventurers (even if you are not in a guild), easy to identify enemies & friends 4. fast action with easy 'come back' if you die (more gameplay with less preparation effort, and less time spend on 'recovery') 5. many casual opportunities to rp (if you play on rp - server) 6. very good content both in term of varying sceneries as well as background stories
All this make wow a very playable game, just like arcade games are. Unfortunately the games has also many weak points that makes it no enjoyable on the long run (at least for me)

Your name is surprisingly reflective in your content. And you are absolutely right about the spelling issue. I was being rather negative about my similarities, but that's what's the same about the two game, not what is different about them.
