Edited by: Scilent Enigma on 22/12/2006 14:56:17 I just had my first experience as the attacker in a PvP situation. It wasn't anything spectacular but boy was it fun. PvP vets might want to look away, I'd hate to make you cringe in your chairs over my mistakes.
My ship: Rifter NOS Autocannon Rocket Launcher Web Scrambler AB
Target: Iterion MkV Reason: Stealing loot from one of my kills in the asteroid field.
Report: I was mining in the field when all of a sudden I see an Iterion warp in, it's 30km away from me. I'm mining into a jetcan and there is only one more miner in the field with me. Neither of us was in the Iterions corp. Either an orethief or somone has been mining before and is now there to collect the ore I'm thinking keeping an eye on her.
Getting suspicious since it isn't approaching any of the SecCans in the field I fill up my cargohold with ore from the jetcan figuring it is an orethief. I warp back to base switch ship to my Rifter and warps back 30km away from the position I was mining from.
I come in just in time to see the Iterion start flashing red like an xmas light.
My heart starts pounding and adrenaline is beginning to pump out in my veins.
I approach, whip on the AB sure that she would warp off before I could get to her. I get within targeting range, target takes only a few seconds to lock. She's bound to warp any second now I'm thinking.
But no she's still there, my heart is punding like a sledgehammer, hands are shaking like I had Parkinsons and now I have more adrenaline than blood in my veins.
I come into 10km engages the web, She doesn't seem to be trying to warp away, 7500m scrambler on, set to orbit at 1000m engages NOS then activates AC and Rocketlauncher.
I was almost shouting out loud, GOTCHA.
As my weapons work down her shield I check to see that my jetcan is still there. She only took the loot from the stupid wreck. So after her shields are down to at about 15% I shut off the rocketlauncher and the AC. Gives a smilie in Local then heads back to base.
For the first time in my EVE life I am denied access to dock for my act of agression. A bit peeved I warp to a moon wait for a minute then back again and is able to dock. Switch to my hauler and retrive my ore.
I dunno if I was too soft or not, but since it was only a lootcan and not the 8000m3 Firey Kernite in my jetcan I figured it wasn't worth blowing up the ship. Just a little slap on the fingers.

Mercy is bad , mkay ! An Iteron V can be ransomed for at least a million ISK , or much more if it's full of cargo...

I agree with all the other posters, you should had gnarled her down to structure then give the good ole opportunity by ransom. Honestly though I probably would had just popped the ship and the pod for the principal of the matter. They were attempting to disrupt your livelyhood, and in my opinion the sentence for such actions is deffinately death. Im back..... |

I'm sorry for crying here. Your first non-security reducer legal kill and you didn't make it. I'm sad. Anytime I get a flashing red, someones getting their ship blown up, maybe them, maybe me, but somethings blowing up. Think of what he/she might have had in that cargo bay. It could have been yours... the spoils of victory and no one in his/her corp could help.
It isn't how big your ship is, but how you fly it that counts! |

FYI, when tackling an industrial, BC or BS, never web until you have points on it, ideally more points than it has low slots, and ram it until you do.
If you web an indy that's trying to get up to speed to warp, it will instawarp as you've just reduced the speed it needs to reach to enter warp. BC's and BS's do this less frequently.
That said, you should have made it explode, taking away a hauler's shields is meaningless, they have almost no shields in the first place.

nice post, takes me back to when i first started shooting people, still get the shaking hands and adrenalin rush, it never goes away
but as many have said, you should of peeled that hauler open and took a peek inside her, but you did what you wanted to do and that is the beuty of EVE, anything can happen. gg ------------------------------------------- |

nice one,
shame about not killing them but it was your choice. And a tip for the future: Always engage scrambler before webifier, as webs actually speed up turning meaning your target has a greater chance of escaping. I helped - Cortes What a shiny and lovely place here - Eshtir Well lets make it a party atleast :D -Xorus RAWWWR!11!!1!2 SIG HIJACK!!11!1 I found it first, get orrrfff moiiii laaannnd - Cortes |

Good advice, will keep that in mind next time, was only thinking about the ranges and activating them as I closed in. Thanx

Nice story. Beware, adrenalin is a powerful drug.
Oh, and next time... finish him off.

I know, and I'm beating myself up for not doing it now in hindsight. I'll do better next time, Promise.

I got my first two kills within 10 minutes of each other today, and I can confirm that killing things is an awesome rush : ) The two pilots, in a Kestrel and a Cormorant, were both pretty cool about it and no smack occured - all in all an awesome experience.
