Edited by: Max Hammer on 22/12/2006 15:23:27 I've played eve for a fairly long time on various characters (just surpassed the 3year mark) and well eve is the most addicitive thing i have EVER been a part of / done. Online or in real life, but i find myself logging on to either randomly roam around space or stay docked and do nothing?!
Im sure many players even alot younger players have come across this "wall" so what to do now? Suggestions? -----------------

Take a break, theres no point in doing anything that bores you. After a while you'll either decide to come back or decide not to do it. Just set a long skill training in the meantime.

on a more serious note. what you are going through is simple. you need another "simple" game like a first person shooter or something to take your mind off eve. that is what i do. when im tired of playing eve..i might not log on for a week or so. when i come back though, im ready!

That explains the poor experiences I've been having. With a lack of goals in the game, the only true goal is to fight each other. The missions get repetative almost instantly. The combat system is not that much fun for a gamer like me. I'm not into "I have been here longer I have more stuff so I'm better" mentality. I am putting this game down and going back to the good old first-person shooters. They are 1000 times more fun than any MMOG in my opinion, and require a lot more skill. I already know barely anyone on this board agrees with me, I'm just sharing why lots of new users might be quitting. To be honest, I'm waiting for an FPS-RPG that uses both your mind and your reaction time.

Not true, I did quite enjoy it. That's why I purchased it and thanked the devs for a good job! I just realized this week that it is entirely pointless to try and build a "character" in a fake world to be "rich" or "powerful" when building up your character in real-life is much better. I just want a game that is FAIR and that is FUN. There is a clear GOAL and if you're telling me you're bored after a few years, perhaps there is no goal. If I spend 3 years with a FPS game I don't lose my talent to aim and kill efficiently. If you put down this game after 3 years, you lose everything.
Think about it.

Not true because i still have the SP to fly ships others can't, use modules others can't, i still (in my head) know the graphics for guns, can know if something is a trap, have the basic experience which someone else might not?...

This is the idea I'm refering to. If you find yourself wandering around or do nothing at all in a game, you are either insane, or just bored because there's a lack of goals.

Roger that. Take a break for a month or two or three. If you are that addicted DO NOT delete your charachter or give your stuff away.
I have been playing since beta and felt the same a few times, but I always come back and I am glad I never quit.

I so hear you I tend to do the same thing. Right now I have gone into a corp support role, doing either long Empire frieghter runs (log in set destination walk away addiction taken care of.) When I want to do something I now go exploring finding complexes in 0.0 for corp memebers to run. And I have switched all my training on my main to pure leadership and command support role. It tends to be the natural progression for older players. Besides your corp memebers will love you for coming out in a Command ship with full Gang bonuses. IF that doesn't work for you try Moon Mining set up POS sit back and moon mine sell buy another POS and find a new Moon to mine. So if your going to sit around a station you might as well sit around a POS and slowly take over a system. The older your character the nicer it is to claim a chunk of space and just sit there grooming it. Also if constillation sov. come in you'll be set.

Two pointers : risk and player-interaction. One pointer to rule them all : what you fear and usually avoid, face it straight and do it if you want to have more fun.
Eve being so open-ended, the player has to take himself by the hand and force himself to do what his comfort and habit do not want him to do.

Think about it.
Interesting because I disagree and I think I have a better point than you do. Your "talent to aim and kill efficiently" in a FPS is trivial, without meaning nor interest IRL. Whereas in Eve I have learned real meaningful things, precisely because it is such an open-ended MMORPG. And I had not learned these things in previous MMORPGS I played, although I had been stimulated to learn them. It just wasn't enough stimulation but Eve provided it. Which things?
First I learned to be evil. For years in MMOs I have been the haughty annoying do-gooder who lectures evil-doers. I used to spend much of my play time running after scammers, griefers and the like in UO. It was good fun but it was hypocrisy. In Eve I realized that I felt like stealing, and that lecturing people that dared to steal was in fact reproaching them to do what I secretly desired to do but didn't dare to. So I became an ore-thief and believe me this had far-reaching effects in my life because I'm such a nasty haughty do-gooder lecturer IRL as well.
Then I learned to take risks by PVPing. I've played MMOs since 1999 and yet I've never PVPed until Eve. In Eve I got to pvp becauser otherwize the game gets horribly boring after a while. To take a coward like me into the pvp arena is no small feat. Congratz Eve and its dev team. Oh I'm not pvping much, but I'm coming to it. I used to stay in empire for fear of being attacked in low sec, well now I rat in low sec and welcome pvpers in my cheap frig. They teach me stuff, they give me enjoyment and fun, and I come back stronger and nearer to being a pvper myself. This sounds silly but bear in mind that I am a big wuss and for me it is much.
Lastly, Eve pushes me to join a corp and to interact with players like no other game ever did. I'm the solo type, but try being solo+carebear in eve and you'll taste the bore of your lifetime... and yet I've endured it until I took a year break. When I came back I started to go to low-sec because my body knew that if I didnt do it I'd leave the game again. In the same way I know I'll have to join a corp, which is a big leap for me. A real corp, for some time... not just faking a corp-joining for a few days.
Conclusion, Eve is transforming me because its gameplay is so open-ended and its content and fun is so relying on players. You got to build your fun by choosing your own gameplay wisely, otherwize you'll be a bored mission runner who would be just as entertained playing an offline game while chatting on ICQ.

best advice, if you are wasting RL time that you feel is better used to advance RL causes, then cancel sub, delete the eve folder.
RL > any-game
any game is there only to be 'fun' and if the fun is gone, RL is suffering, then the game has too go.
now the good part...ccp says that your character willbe safe for at least 6 months (i think it will always be there) so you can take a long break and return later if you desire.
a break and a clear head just might make the game fun again.

Proposed Solutions: 1. Go bonkers, spend money on ships and fittings and go crazy in low sec/0.0 2. do something youve never done before. 3. Join an active 0.0 alliance and go use the experience you probably have and lend a helping hand.

Ok this is my first post... hopefully not my last, but still.... Im a director of a young corp, and sometimes we experience this too.... (no big goals, what am I doing here thoughts, what to do etc.? Whats fun in this anyway.... well the answer comes from how we met... we were scammed more or less by our former corp... so we started our own... just friends with very simple goals (mostly because we are rookies), but the bottom line is, I have fun with THEM, if I would play alone well the game wouldnt be as much of fun for ME... Or even would play in a powerfull corp in which nobody really knows eachoter, same thing...
Like in real life, go for the people you like, you might get dissapointed in some, but in the end you meet a few very nice people... the rest (gameplay) is in my humble opinion extra!
