I have heared about CCP working on the Avatars being actual 3d models that we can control in stations, and as such, I have a few questions about it which I have not seen anything about.
1) Will it do away with the PODS as we know it. (I ask based on the explination of the PODS) 2) will we be able to walk around in our ships also? 3) can we attack avatars? 4) Will it change any game dynamics? 5) will there be things such as bars in the station that we can blow our hard earned ISK on?

1) No. 2) Unlikely at first. Cool enough to be on the wishlist, though. 3) They say not at first. Probably later. 4) They say no. Add new stuff, not change old stuff. 5) Almost certainly. What would be the fun of walking in station if there was nothing to do? -----------------------------------------------

ô1) Will it do away with the PODS as we know it. (I ask based on the explination of the PODS)ö If there isnÆt any combat then you cannot die so its safe to get out of your POD. It only gets complicated if you can die outside a POD. Without combat we donÆt have a problem.

There was a nice devblog somewhere that went over this whole thing really well and even had a test avatar from the engine for it.

At the fanfest they said in the beginning there will only be socializing in the outposts. That means bars and pubs most likely. Also hopefully - exotic dancers when its released in the far future. Remember this is not the ordinary SoonTM project.
This will be step one tho. Later on, they hope/plan/will add more features to it. But they have to be careful so they not go too far, so it will be a step-by-step project.

as long as i can punch someone in the stomach when i'm walking around station, i'll be happy
btw in the stories ppl leave their pods when they get into station all the time.
walk around ship? now that would be cool, probly should only be option when dry docked
and yeah if there aren't dancing girls and casinos... well i'm not sure why else i would want to leave my pod

Walk around avatars sounds potentially hilarious on paper. I picture ganker chasing after gankee. The player on the run hastily docks, with the ganker docking right behind him. They climb out of their ships, throw their helmets at each other while cursing and start wrestling on the ground.
Or if the player avatars have WoW-like animations, I can see station camp taunting elevate to another level, with much pelvis /thrusting and /chicken dancing.

Hehehe, the main thing i want is to be able to see the ship you and other players have docked. This is even better if we get guns, shoot at a friend's ship for the hell of it :P
More info is supposed to be in EON 6, cant wait to see that arrive at my door.

CCP would do good to stop worrying about animations/graphics and focus on gameplay. Specifically buffing the PvE component of this game.
Having Avatars is a step in the right direction but it looks like they're (again) spending 90% of their time making it pretty.
You guys could have a lot more players if you gave your players a little direction, some clear and documented gameplay.

Actually, there are almost no stories about capsuleers- they're almost all about non-pod ships (in game, all ships that are controlled by players are "pod" ships, all NPC ships are the old fashioned variety) or passengers on pod-ships. I can only recall one story actually about a pod pilot, and he lapses into an unrecovarable coma. -----------------------------------------------

Question is, will the game be PC enough to cater to the disabled pilots, offering permobiles and such? Think of the Rabbit, I hear he's not well still.

I honestly believe that the ' walking thro/ around stations' will be like the map as it is now . ---- ie "ooh pretty " 1st time you do it. then its turned off and never used. - (yet more usless code added . "never mine the quality - feel the width" damn showing my age.)

Read "Ruthless". Almost all of the main characters (that fly ships) mentioned are pod pilots.

Do we really need a visual representation of a chat room to help us immerse in EVE? Is the general EVE playing person that small minded? All this just for socializing in bars/meeting areas?
I can see why they're doing it, but I think its a step in the wrong direction. If I wanted to walkabout and control and avatar i'd play a game designed from that perspective from the ground up. (dare I say it, WoW or another EQ clone is excellent for this sort of stuff.) If I wanted to fight on foot i'd play Planetside or the upcoming MMOFPS, Huxley.
This is wrong for the same reasons why space flight in Star Wars Galaxies was wrong. Stick to the core game, improve on your strengths..
My 2 pessimistic cents.

People want to be able to get out of their pods and stretch their legs every now and then. Is that so much to ask for? :D

I agree with this very much and aside from the humorous visuals I had on hearing the idea, it seems as a whole a misdirected effort. I can see that having a player avatar may have some immediate enticement to bringing in a wider mainstream audience, but it sounds very tertiary to EVE's focus and strength.
I'm sure this was debated internally at CCP and any doubts of the playerbase is moot at this point since they're going ahead with it, but I agree with your skepticism completely.

Unlikely to have gambling as there are laws relating to minimumages on gambling in most if not all countries, as this game carries a teen rating that would alsorule out exotic dancers sadly :) ---

From a monetary perspective, undoubtedly. The sooner they make EVE more player friendly, more kid friendly and less PVP based the sooner they grab every single Sci-Fi inclined person who is currently playing WoW. Thankfully for my sake CCP seems to have a vision that they put before profits, and like any good privately held company I think they're going to keep to their vision. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I know that I could be wrong (happens often), but wasnt most of this going to be coded and worked on by the company they recently merged with, with CCP doing the Kali stuff and such. Plus, we really shouldn't be worrying about this anyway, as it's not gonna be released till 2009+ anyway --

I think you guys are missing the vast possbilites that could come at a later date. imagine you're chaising some guy down because he doesn't want to fight you because he doesn't have a 40000K + blob backing him up. he docks at his corps station thinking hes going to be safe but no! you run back to your outpost and get 20 marines loaded into your transport and fly to the station to storm the docking bay and STILL kill said person. concord would have walking mechs that would eventually kill you

In my opinion not needed.
The danger is the escalation it will cause.
From day 1 live (and probably through all the betas) people have asked to be able to exit their pods and walk around. This is all fine and well however this request is always closelly followed by the "I want to be able to kill players outside of my ship" and soon we have a situation where the devs ither get very dissapointed players or a situation where the devs have to spend time developing a whole new game taking precious time away from the real game.
But as the devs have put their minds to it it seems I doubt they will change their minds, lets just hope they make instation activities to firt of all optimal and secondly puerely peacefull.
