There is nothing to rant about, as the current system is logical, but I believe there are improvements to be made. I'm trying to be constructive here, I hope you will too. 
What I am talking about is local. With the recent changes, and even before, it has been impossible for me to sneak up on war targets. The reason for this is simple: my name starts with a number. When I created my character I had no idea that this would be so harmful. I understand the current system, but could we please make a small change?
I simply feel that the current system would be better if the order of characters in local be changed so that it's random. I really don't think I have to elaborate on that, but I'm pretty sure it could be done and it can only improve the game for us poor people with numbers at the start of our names. This would make my Christmas very delightful, and I promise to keep being good for the whole year!

Closest you're gonna get in the future is Constellation chat, which was being thought about by a dev, can't remember his name atm, he was on eve-tv anyway.

I really hate local chat.
To me it takes alot out of EVE. Don't say it's because I'm a pirate, because that's not all of it. It really takes alot out of the immersion. There is absolutely no way someone can sneak up on anyone, totally out of the blue. If you're doing something where you're not setup for PVP, as soon as that person enters the system... what do you do? Scan. You scan before they have time to cloak or anything and if you can't beat the ship you run.
That really loses alot of the immersion aspect of the game and makes it alot less realistic feeling.
