Edited by: Lieutenant Disturbed on 23/12/2006 22:34:55 Edited by: Lieutenant Disturbed on 23/12/2006 22:34:13 i do not know where to put this under but i want to speak my opinions out.
i am deaf in real life so i cant use any voice programs including teamspeak and it was already difficult enough trying to communicate with players on eve when they are on teamspeak. They tend not to pay attention to chatrooms because its much easier to use teamspeak. Often i cant be involved in with pvping because people rather to use teamspeak. And now i learned that ccp/dev are planning to install voice program. i want to object to that for several reasons.
once its in... people will rarely use chatrooms anymore and people who are unable to use any voice programs for various reasons will be bored to death because there wont be people to chat with. the people will be too busy talking verbally. there will be no chance for me or anybody to do pvping or even chatting idlely in local.
i really dont want voice program installed. teamspeak is good enough. heh heck i have hard time to get my own boyfriend's attention when hes using teamspeak and im living with him.
please hear me out and considers about this. thank you.
oh heck! i chose wrong character... this is spicehd (main character)

I agree, I have problems with using voice comms myself, I know how it feels to get left behind just because you can't use teamspeak. It sucks.

Any well organised gang will use both voice comms and have a dedicated member of the gang to relay commands in chat.
Using the new built in gang command tools, now allows you to give basic commands on screen, so all this new gang stuff (if used correctly) should help you out.
Speak to your gang commanders if commands are not being relayed well enough to you in pvp.

Sounds like your boyfriend isn't too good at adjusting to the fact that you're hard-of-hearing.
Anyways, like someone else stated: a *good* gang/fleet has a person dedicated to relaying teamspeak chat to in-game text chat. You're not the only person who doesn't use teamspeak -- I gaurauntee it. Some people may not have speakers/headphones, some may just not like using voice communication (it does get annoying sometimes for me).
Finally, the in-game voice communication that is being implemented is a pay-for service. Not everyone wants to pay an additional fee on top of the monthly fee to play this game. Most people (including myself) are almost positive that this in-game voice communication is doomed to failure. ----- Griffin -- 100,000 ISK ECM - Multispectral Jammer Is -- 20,000 ISK Standar Missile Launcher Is -- 10,000 ISK War target sobbing over losing a fight in his T2 fitted Battleship -- priceless |

"i really dont want voice program installed."
Well no offense or anything, but there are at least 10,000 other people who want it and will use it.
If don't like it, don't use it. If you have a problem with people using TS, tell them, or find a corp who doesn't use voice chat.

lol nearly impossible to find a corp that doesnt use teamspeak and i learned to accept that teamspeak is neccessary in pvping...even though i dislike that very much.
but if eve is gonna install voice program in Eve... that would mean local, corp, and gang will use it in general. That would lead to chatroom not being used anymore and that is the reason why i objected to it. lot of people will be left out. the players already are using teamspeak... theres no need to make it offical in eve. it is good enough. i cant agrue against teamspeak or any other voice programs outside eve cuz thats not something ccp or dev can control... however i can agrue about voice program. theres no need for it.

disagree, and the ingame voice will be ingame, the chat channels will still be used. and you will only be able to speak in one voice channel at a time, so 1 channel is voice, others will be text. No harm no foul.
Now what they need is to make a closed captioning intigration for the voice program... maybe... don't know.

Can only be used at present in player created channels and gang so no locals and iirc no corp chat either :) ---

I'm severely hearing impaired (deaf in one ear, profoundly impaired in the other), and from having played MMOs for a while (not just EVE), there are ways around voice communications.
When in gangs, although I am on the voice chat channels, I ask another member (not the leader - they have too much to do normally) to relay important messages to me ingame, for example in a private chat. Whilst this takes slightly longer, it's better than not being able to follow instructions at all! Make the leader aware of it, by all means, but don't expect him to relay instructions to you as well - they'll be too busy figuring out what the instructions are!
Befriend people who are normally in gang ops and reliable (there'll always be a few) and ask if they're okay to do something like this - the worst that happens is that they can say no. In which case, ask someone else!
And finally, I think that as has been said by others, only player-created chat channels will be allowed to have voice - thus you'll still be able to idly chat in local and the like, no problem. In my experience, many players prefer to chat via text most of the time anyway, as it's easier, and less involved - you can listen to music, or watch TV if you're not voice chatting, for example. You can just imagine how bad local would be if it had voice communications in many major hubs, can't you?
I'm sure it won't be nearly as bad as you make it out to be - people are lazy and need to do other things involving sound!
