I realize that these ships are very expensive toys and only a few people actually field them in pvp. What id like to know is which of the faction ships are best suited for pvp just off their stats etc. Some of them look like they would be failures altogether but thats just me.
Disregard prices and try not to pit faction frigs against a mob cuz thats obviously unfair, by class type which faction ships are the best in ur opinion?

I like the look of it and the bonuses on it look evil. But i personally like the Machariel.

Edited by: Merin Ryskin on 26/12/2006 06:08:17 Edited by: Merin Ryskin on 26/12/2006 06:06:44 Battleships: any of them, pretty much. Since T2 battleships don't exist, the faction versions are the best you can get. Vindicator, Rattlesnake, Navy Raven, Machariel are all well worth flying.
Cruisers: pretty much inferior to HACs/BCs, so you have to be careful in flying them. But they're better by far than T1 cruisers, so you can still find enough prey to hunt in them. Based on my experience:
Vigilant: excellent PvP ship, building nicely on the already strong Thorax base. Its only downside is the lack of T2 resists and need to fight inside scramble/web range. It's fun to fly, but you have to be pretty careful about what you engage because there's no turning back.
Navy Caracal: say goodbye to the tissue paper mobile loot can Caracal, this ship has the grid/slots to fit a very nice tank. It's poor for solo pvp, but with a tackler it's one of the safer faction ships to fly. 90+km missile range lets you stay safely out of most damage and warp scrambling, and you've got plenty of durability to survive the rest.
Navy Vexor: it's not an Ishtar, but it's still a good ship. Like the Vigilant, take an already good PvP cruiser and give it a nice boost.
Ashimmu: forget it and buy a Curse. The grid is horribly crippled, those low slots look very good until you realize you're going to waste half of them on grid mods just to get a full set of cruiser-size modules. And by that I mean the smallest lasers/missile launcher, only two NOS, no plate, only an AB, and a single medium rep. And after all that, you get out-damaged by some T1 frigates.
Phantasm: looks interesting on paper, but a split weapon layout is a problem. At least you have dual rate of fire bonuses... I want to give this one a try, but it's probably a weaker choice than the others.
Gila: again with the split weapon layout, and grid problems if you want to fit rails to go with your long-range missiles. 50% velocity says "abuse your 100km range", while the lack of grid makes the 5th and 6th high slot a waste. On the other hand, it's dirt cheap for a faction cruiser, at under 100 million ISK.
Frigates: skip them. You pay double (or more) the price of an AF/interceptor, for something that's far more fragile, and still lacking in dps. And did I mention the extreme vulnerability to webs/nos/drones? Worst of all, they're cursed with split weapon layouts and unreasonably tight fitting. Ok, so they're fun to fly around in PvE or frigate duels, but they're a poor choice for a serious pvp ship.

More faction apoc than geddon. Just looks like geddon... actually much better than geddon. Like after virgin... -------- The BoB model is bad for business. Incidently the BoB model is more suited for a game such as WoW where as the ASCN model more suited for Eve.

Yes, a very nice list, Merin.
I must admit I enjoy flying around in a Ashimmu, granted, it doesnt have PG for a whole lot, but who says u have to use lasers when it doesnt get a dmg bonus to those? it gets easier to fit if u use 220mm AC's ^^

QFT.
In regards to the OP, the machariel = pure sex as a heavy, heavy tackler. Slap on a gist MWD and it can pull 2000m/s while fielding a heavy, heavy tank and pretty good damage output. I've tackled snipers by single-rep tanking them until I was in range for my republic fleet warp disruptor (you'd be surprised how many people don't expect you to have a 30km scrambler), then just opening up and making them dead. -Wrayeth "Look, pa! Most of my corp still thinks I'm crazy, but I'm saving up for a CNR (again, last time I had the cash I had to sponsor a thanatos for the corp)
I've already acquired parts of its tank, I can hardly wait. I'm sure I'll lose it eventually though, and perhaps even in 2 hours like the guy above, but damn it'll be exciting to fly !

try the phantasm - I heard they have very nice tanks... Just don't want to train amarr atm
Gila is identical with the CN Caracal except for the hi-slot layout (6 hi: 4/4 - just wanted to point it out)

One of my corpmates flies around in a Vindicator - really enjoys flying it. He lost it a couple of months back to a bunch of pirates in Aunenen (he was tired, was silly and engaged stupid odds).
Mined his ass off (and Complex'd) for a week, and built a new one, he's now back out racking up kills against various pirate corporations around Empire.

I think it would be fun to make 'light' versions of the pirate faction ships, with the same bonuses but without the increased hps. With greater availability and much lower price it would bring some more variety to the pvp fields.

Nightmare is ironically a nightmare to fit, but from what I've heard if you can fit it properly it's a monster.

I love flying my vindicator (factiond and t2'd out) into pvp. I also fly a cynabal (faction angel cruiser..also pimped and t2'd out) into solo pvp against bc's and below alot. They are fun to fly but your really must be careful. I have been thinking of buing a bhallgorn latley but the lack of skills for t2 lasrers that i got would make it pointless with the setup i had in mind (5 dark blood heavy nos 3 dual mega pulse) but yeah i like using them in pvp. it egts addictive once in a while although 99% of the people who get them into pvp for the first time are nervous out of their mind about flying them into battle.

Thats the thing though pvp in EvE HAS to be nerve wreking cuz in this game dying means you lose for good, u dont come back in a ghost and respawn ur ship cuz then your having no fun at all. When i first fle my tempest i was killing people left and right, all the sudden i get ganked and i KNEW i was gonna die but i had hell of fun while i was still fighting to survuve. In the end my heart felt like it was gonna pop but i think it was worth it.
When it comes to faction ships its ever more so because the investment is soo high. OFC only the rich get to enjoy such high adrenaline sorties but some that do have the isk for it use them to farm lv4s and while they are welcome to do as they please i would much rather do lv4s in a typhoon and use a Machariel for pvp, even if i know i WILL lose it at some point.

I have a Gila and a Phantasm, I've been testing them out on lvl3 missions but haven't tried them in pvp yet. Both look like they could work, though neither is a "pwnmobile" in any way.
The Gila might work as an anti-frigate support ship in a small group. Fit with precision heavies, rails with Spike ammo, target painter, sensor booster and stuff like that.
The Phantasm... hmmm. Maybe some sort of HAM + pulse laser setup could work, with standard close-range mids (mwd, web, scramble, booster). Maybe with a nosfe or two. Dunno.
If anyone has used either of these in pvp, please share.

I got a vigilant. The 4th mid-slot means cap booster, which means better cap, which means better tank But pg is kinda annoying on this ship. Its hard to fit 5 t2 ions (my personal choise), mwd, cap booster and marII. But still it pwns
My problem with the vigilant is that i cant find any targets when im in it They allways show up when im flying rax, but not vigilant
The end..

I fly a CNR and while itÆs the best ship for Level 4Æs itÆs not much better then a regular Raven for PVP. While in PVE you fit it for the best tank you can get. For PVP the best way to fit it is for small gang (3 û 10) fights. Take advantage of the extra damage output from that 7th launcher and fit some Dred Guristas BCUÆs to boost it further. The 7 Launcher coupled with 2 DG BCUÆs and T2 launchers gets a really nice ROF with Trops. But Like I said, itÆs not that much better for PVP, has a bigger tank and more damage output but costs 10 times a normal Raven. The best use for this ship is to stay in Empire and do missions with it. Losing one hurts for a very long time.
The Rattlesnake is the ship to use for PVP; which is why they are so overpriced right now. It can do awesome damage and can fit a crazy tank that is hard to break.
