(CNN) -- Actor and comedian John Goodman, who gained stardom in the sitcom "Roseanne," died Monday night after collapsing on the set of the movie "Drunkboat". He was 53.
Goodman was rushed from the set of the movie "Drunkboat" to Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, California, after suffering from an unrecognized and undetected flaw in his heart, according to a statement from his publicist Lisa Kasteler.
"Surgeons at the hospital tried to save the Emmy Award-winning actor but, sadly, were unable to do so," the statement said.
Goodman, who turned 53 last month, is best known for his role as Dan Connor on the long-running television sitcom, "Roseanne," which brought him an Emmy. He made an unsuccessful return to sitcom acting last year with "Center of the Universe." The show was canceled after 12 episodes due to low ratings.
Mr. Goodman was the youngest son of Tomas and Ruby Goodman. He graduated from Washington High School and earned a degree in drama from Southwest Missouri State. His first TV appearance was for a Burger King commercial where he had no lines.
With "Roseanne," his career took off. His performances included 1996's Oscar-nominated comedy, "The Big Lebowski" and a Broadway run in "Big River," which was based on The Adventures of Huckelberry Finn. He received an Emmy and other awards for his "Roseanne" role and was honored by the Los Angeles Music Center in June with a lifetime achievement award.
He later starred in the television series "Normal, Ohio" and recently starred in two short-lived TV comedies, "Center of the Universe" and "Father of the Pride," both canceled due to low raings.
Survivors include his wife of sixteen years, Annabeth Hartzog, and one daughter.

Can't find any confirmation of this story. If it's fake, it wouldn't be the first time that John Goodman "died".
If it's true... it would really suck.

Only after I posted it occured to me that maybe you posted this in good faith. If that was the case, I apologise. If it was meant to be a joke though, it was a very bad joke.

It was a bad joke.
It only occured to me after I posted the fake story that this kinda joke might not go over as well as it would in other forums, so sorry if anyone was upset. ----- Traditional morality is just a clever way for the weak masses to shackle the strong individual. -- Callicles |
