So there always seems to be an infinite amount of argumentation of the benefits of 0.0 versus the risks of 0.0. What happened to me about 5 mins ago might help shed some light on the debate.
While ratting by my nice lil home in 0.0, I came across a serpentis convoy. It took me far to long to realize as much. Anyway, when I opened the first wreck, there was 0.68M of megacyte (go ahead, do the math). It just so happens that a hostile gang was wreaking havoc a system over, and before I could do a damn thing with the mats I was scrambled, blown up, and podded.
So the risk: 100M+ in ship and mods + 100M in implants.
The reward: NOTHING. But it could have been 3BN+.
All I can say is F*** Me.

I've never seen nearly that much. Most I ever got was 200k nocxium

The one wreck that was left behind after the gang left (I think they blew the other ones up, as it was unlikely that they could have hauled it all) was full of 6M of tritanium. That's right, 6M.

Oh and to be a bit more constructive, last time I had a hauler spawn it dropped 19M tritanium in total...the risk and reward is very odd indeed sometimes.

During one of my very few 0.0 trips back in the days, I came across a NPC mining op. So I started killing off the ships. Me, alone, with poor skills, it took long enough for some of them to respawn bgefore I got the last ones down. Tanking them was easy, but I was spending ammo fast. So I called for some backup with ammo and continued killing them. Haulers first, then guards. But before I got the last guards, the haulers respawned... and then my new ammo warped in...
I had those guys run back and forth between station and belt with ammo and haulers... And in the end we split the minerals 50/50.
Yes, ladies and gentlemen. That was a NPC mining op being farmed. And we ended up with a nice bunch of minerals after 4 hours of constant fighting...
What did we get?
All but Mega and Zyd, but so much that we could build 18 battleships. Think about that...
Then there's that other time where the haulers didn't respawn. That sucked....

They could that one time. But it was LOOOOONG ago and alot has been changed to NPCs since then, so I doubt it can happen like that now...
