I haven't seen the empire ice belts this empty in a looooong time.
I have around 100 in my address book; usually 70-80% are online at any one time. Today there are 2.

Perhaps they should stop spamming traditional chinese characters in local if they aren't.

While China is far from the only cheap workforce around, my experiences with ISK farmers (Macrominers is Eve's biggest malapropism IMO) all seem to have reflected them being Chinese (either by use of symbols or when directly asked, "I am chainen").
Obviously this is far from conclusive, or even a decent size sample, I'd assume that it was a reasonable trend that they were Chinese.
What is your evidence to the contrary?

I found this article from NY Times which was pretty interesting.

I know exactly what I'd do, and don't think for a moment I blame the miners for what they are doing. They don't care about the state of the game, but I have no idea why people think they should. They are trying to eat, FFS, why should they care that you feel somewhat hard done by when you see them in game?
The "problem" is entirely the fault of the ISK buyers.

Edited by: Malibu Stacey on 27/12/2006 19:06:03 I think it has more to do with the changes to the client by the Revelations update & hopefully some GM intervention than one route going down in Asia especially since the route referred to seems to be a link to the US not Europe (Tranquility server cluster is in London AFAIK). Also TCP/IP can cope with losing a link, even a major one.
Perhaps the knock on effect of this is the cause of some of the whining (see also this) about mineral prices. Fewer macro's stripping the belts making low-end ore prices rise & therefore mining a profitable profession? Wow we were right all along, fancy that.
Oh and Al I spotted some potential targets in a system in Sinq Laison, didn't have time to fly to the Ice Belt to confirm as I was in the middle of helping a corpmate. I'll give more info when I see you ingame again.
Originally by: Verus Potestas The "problem" is entirely the fault of the ISK buyers.
Exactly. Supply & Demand is one of the big selling points of this game & yet it's still not understood by so many. If there were no lamers buying ISK from the multitude of sites then the macrominers would have no reason to exist. --- Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition! |

unfornatley a small problem with being able to type chinesse characters to talk to em , well either way continue to petition most of the devs are on hoildays anyway.
I just keep playing haul and bait with em keeps me occupied at times. U can hide amoung em to when war targets warp into system and pick them off within empire or u can suicide em
Ive made a few suggestion posts regarding lowering the sec hit for attacking NPC corpers from -0.1 hit for the current to -0.025 ( 75%) less when attacking suicide style a NPC corp player versus a player in a player corp ( -0.1) will remain.
With CCP unwilling to act might give the average player a bit more power in dealing with this issue. Most players mining in high sec the real ones are normally i na player corp anyway

If you'd hunted them regular like you'd know alot of them are indeed from china. Google translator is most useful in asking them wtf do you think u r doing? 什么他妈的你以为你在做什么?

Lets just agree that most of the farmers are from asia. This sounds less like racism. But still the fact remains that hardly any farmer is online since the quake.
I would love to see CCPs stand on this.

Thats not what I meant. I meant that the ones working for the gold farming companies probably do it because its their only option (or their best option), and you would do the same if you were in that situation.
I have no doubt in my mind that China will become incredibly powerful as a nation in the future, most likely surpass all the others in fact, within the next 10-20 years. It will be interesting to see if some of them generalize Americans in the same way some of you guys generalize the Chinese.

Edited by: Mnengli Noiliffe on 27/12/2006 20:48:17 they're running courier agent missions in low sec now, probably it's more profitable as it is. tricks like doing them only after several hours after accepting are also helpful for player mission runners, 2k lp+800k isk for a shuttle run is handy.
personally I'd prefer them mining, that way they at least helped community to mine those low ends, now only thing they do is generating isk to feed the inflation.

The reson there are some many farmers is because for alot of the youth in china they can chose between low pay heavy labour... or low pay sitting infront of 10 computers admin'ing farm bots. Its not that its their ONLY way to get food on the table.. its the easiest way.

You plug the characters into a translator and it spits it out, not perfect but you can get a general idea of what they are saying.
