Start training your skills right away! I wasted about 4 days before I learned how to train them. Look in the "Character Sheet" right underneath your characters picture. Select "Skills" Open up a category and right click on the skill your want to train. Choose to train it and then start learning more about the game. Good luck.

Oh i believe i will be sticking around
ive tryed most most online games and this is the only one thats seem to get me glued so far.
saying that i was a huge freelancer player for anyone who remembers that just cant believe i never joined eve before !!!

Freelancer was great, but EVE is better. Not as much twich combat, but much deeper.
Best advice is to find a player corporation as soon as possible, as the point of a MMO is to be social, not solo.
