Ok, hereĈs my problem. It appears that I really suck at setting up a PVP capable Raven. I have been in only two PVP fights, and was getting owned both times. One battle with a Stabber and another with a Zealot. I was hoping I would at least hold my own with these two ships. So I need some advice on how to setup a decent Raven. Maybe some ideas for the Drake IĈm building too. IĈm not going to post what I have on the Rave, because it obviously doesnĈt work worth a damn!
Any advice would be appreciated.

If this is serious then theres a sticky at the top with generic pvp setups for the raven. Look in there.

Thanks for the info, I've been looking into those threads.
Any additional recomendations would be apreciated.

One of the older posts I found said armor tanking is easier than shield tanking. Is that still true or are you being sarcastic?

I assume you were using torps? If so,consider switching to cruise missles.
HI
6 x cruise launchers 2 x heavy nos
You can then go 2 routes:
Shield tank-dmg Mids: shield booster, hardners/extenders, cap booster Low: PDU and BCU
EWar-Armor tank Mids: sensor booster, sensor damps/tracking disruptors, web, scram Low: large rep/double rep, hardners, BCU if you can fit
Thats the general gist. If you are mainly solo, go with the EWar-Armor tank, tracking disruptors won't be much good against cruisers/HAC/Recons, but damps may force them to close, and NOS/Web/Cruise/Drones can do the rest.
Enjoy. ________________________________________________ This thread does not exist

Thanks for the info. I was useing T1 cruise missles, and trying to shield tank. Like I said, i've only done two PVP battles. This last battle I was running guard for a corp mate while he was minning in 0.0. When the Zealot showed up, I stuck around long enough for my buddy to warp out, and my launchers to get off four shots each. I bearly scratched his shields, but mine were dropping fast.

The raven is a horrific PvP ship. It's bad in fleet, bad in gang, and a flying killmail solo. Outside of fleet, PvP is ruled by speed. The raven is a cap-tanker. Cap-tanking is suicide in PvP.

I've seen some pretty nasty Ravens in PvP, even solo ones... if played right.
It's all about the player. If a player is good, they can take any decent ship and be a threat in PvP.

Thor, you are quite wrong. Raven is excellent as the heavy for a small gang. Granted, not so good in fleets, but you have to qualify that as long-ranged sniper fleets; if your fleet plans to go toe to toe, Raven's are quite nice. ________________________________________________ This thread does not exist

OK, so which of the Caldari ships is my best bet for solo PVP. I don't have any skills for the other race ships yet, so has to be a Caldari one.

You can make a passive tank drake that can tank anything 1 v 1. It won't be able to kill BS's, but it can tank them. Just look up drake set ups, myself and others have posted it many times. I think the drake has grid issues tho.
Having this problem myself. PvP seems to be for other races and PvE seems meant for Caldari. Although I've got all of my weapon skills in missiles, I have a sneaking suspicion that a blaster/rail ferox or a blaster/rail rohk is the new direction in Caldari pvp. Age old problem with the Ferox is a user problem, with most pilots ignoring the bonuses and using missiles.
Also, I think there might be something to a HAM drake setup. It would dish out more damage but those things are power hungry. I only tried once and almost died at an NPC spawn (was just checking damage on BS and got scrammed). I didn't have any luck with it, but it still looks promising.
So yeah. Beats me. I have lost two drakes in 6 days and am presently flying rifters, kestrels, ruptures, and blackbirds. The drakes held up well, but I was significantly outnumbers (like 4-5 vs. 1). I'm fitting a raven now and looking for a different build. Everyone always posts "it's been posted a hundred times," but they overlook the fact that we are looking for new setups. I mean, Amarr and Mintard get nanophoons and istabaphoons and whatever, but we get stuck wit straight and normal ****. Hard to say.

What exactly does a Raven bring to a small gang that makes it "excellent"? Certianly you aren't talking about DPS are you? The Raven's strengths are dealing damage at varied ranges and shield tanking. Small gangs move quickly, which the Raven certianly does not. With only 5 lows, it's a poor nano boat, and low capacitor make it a weak choice for a MWD as well. For static work such as gatecamping it's hard to imagine you wouldn't be better off with any number of other battleships. An Armageddon would both outtank and out-dps a Raven, as would a megathron. Other ships are faster, better tanked, and do more damage. The Raven is left behind in PVP because it cannot fit well for either gank tactics or speed, which is what PVP ships are all about. Complaining? Hardly. It's missile bonuses and shield tank mean it's quite simply the best ratter and mission running battleship in eve.
