New Ships - > Large demand for new ships all at once -> significanly increased demand for minerals -> higher prices
Prices will even out eventually. If you don't like it then grab some mining lasers and help increase the supply of minerals which will drive prices down. ----------

Mineral price affects all ships..
And I think active(dynamic?) insurance is a bad idea, as it gives out plenty as it is.

. . .
If people building the new ships are buying up all the minerals, what minerals will the 'older' ships be made from? The same pool of minerals on the market that have raised in price because of the building of all the new ships. Therefor even the 'old' ship prices are influenced by the new ships.
Supply vs Demand.
Insurance is a tricky thing, tbh. If you make the payout too nice people will abuse it, thus creating billions of ISK out of 'thin air' in very short order which is never good to a MMORPG. ----------

Insurance premiums are fine. they don;t fluctuate with the market, Never have, probably never will.
T1 cruisers still need minerals, and mineral prices are still up.
Mine the low end minerals, buy the Zyd/Mega, and get your cruiser for like 1-2 million.
Or
Complain on a message board, pout a bit, and still buy cruisers for 9-10 million.

im not saying set the insurance extremely high. but yes, i think dynamic(! lol) would be a nice add.
just add a percentage over the average region price. that way everybody wins.
that way, when the mineral prices go down again and the price is lowered, the insurance premium will go down automatically :)

But it would work in reverse too..
Scenario 1) Buy a bunch of cheap shuttles/frigates/cruisers/battleships in one region Fly to a region where mineral prices are incredibly high (easily to artificially influence) Self destruct ships Collect fat insurance payout PROFIT!
Scenario 2) Buy a bunch of cheap ships right before a patch/expansion with new ships Wait until mineral prices raise like they currently have Self destruct ships Collect fat insurance payout PROFIT!
Scenario 3) Mine own minerals Build own ships (no markup) Insure ships Self Destruct Collect insurance + (quote) "a percentage over the average region price" PROFIT!
Never underestimate the lengths people will go through in any MMORPG for 'easy money'.. If it was proven to work then you WOULD be seeing people build and self-destruct hundreds of shuttles.. ----------

At one point, it *was* working. I remember a time when one would take their ship on a suicide run and/or self-destruct it, because insurance was about to expire. The payout allowed one to buy a new ship and make a small profit to boot.
Insurance is a horrible idea. Always has, always will be. The benefit to new players probably outweighs the insanity of free money after being exploded, however.

I'd like to think its because of all the huge wars going on.
We really need more macro miners to bring the prices inline I think.

Who do you think does all the 'macro mining' in Empire systems clsoe to BoBspace? Why do freighters and carriers move out of those stations the 'macro miners' are docking at and head over towards BoBspace?
Why does the same happen close to most other big alliance space areas with HiSec available within a few jumps? --*=*=*--
The cause for this is not yet known, but we do have a possible fix in testing. by Sharkbait | 2006.09.20 |

macro miners are now less id like to see CCP slash buy 75% the amount of sec status u hit for suicide ganking em ( so say 100 points for a player corper and 25 points for a NPC corper) might encourage some more high sec piracy to which CCP like

prices are up as raw materials are up. Until supply goes up demand comes down or both prices will be on the up
