heip,
I dont know if its right forum to write about it but does anyone else have trouble surfing eve-online.com web and forum with Internet Explorer 7? Do i realy have to install Mozilla just for eve-O? its realy pain with IE7. Every char images are reloading very slow. With sigs its even worse. If there is large thread it takes 1-2min to wait before i can start scrolling web down normaly.
Anyone having this problem? I have this with home pc and work pc. Both have IE7 What should i setup different in IE to get it work?

A new forum software ... --*=*=*--
The cause for this is not yet known, but we do have a possible fix in testing. by Sharkbait | 2006.09.20 |

I find IE7 runs well on Vista but rubbish on XP. I did find that you had to change the page refresh settings or it wouldn't show you new posts on here properly.
I use firefox most of the time though - especially scrolling is way faster and smoother - page loading seems faster too.

Same here with Firefox 2. No avatars and poor performance...

I have another problem, it was there with IE6 and has been much worse with IE7.
CPU spikes, when i play EVE and surf the forums at the same time my eve client freezes for 1/10 of a second every 1 to 1.5 second, i can especially see this when warping, but it's there all the time.
If i move to another site everything is normal, and the game is fluid.
I thought it was some antivirus thing, or some filters, but a clean install of Windows, drivers and then EVE reproduces this on my single core CPU.
On dual core CPU's this is normally not a problem, because the 100% spikes run on another core than EVE.
I have done tests with many other sites, and no one does this, not eve YouTube that plays video and uses some CPU.
It seems strange to have an official site about a game that breaks it when you surf it while playing...
Now i use my notebook for forum reading, but i would like to be able to copy/paste to/from game/forums.

Actually ie7 isn't the problem , it's the image server that slows down the forums.
Open the hosts file on your computer located in C:\WINNT\system32\drivers\etc folder (set the hosts file properties to archive from read only) add the following line at the bottom of the list of sites 127.0.0.1 img.eve.is Save and reset the hosts file to read only and enjoy. All the player avatars will fail to display but since half of them are exclamation marks it doesn't matter anyway. Unfortunately the ability to filter out signatures via the settings on the boards doesn't work so you will still have to wait for sig's to load but this fix does drastically speed up the forums. |

Ooh, handy info. I always end up having to repeatedly click the stop button on IE6 to actually see the text in a reasonable amount of time. Wish we could actually disable signatures, in addition to this fix for portraits.

Edited by: Ralara on 28/12/2006 13:31:28 2 ways around IE's annoyingness:
1) adblock the images from http://img.eve.is/
EDIT: oops someone already said that :)
2) press "stop" once the text is loaded but the images haven't. It's not a problem at home since I use firefox but at work they use IE6 and it really doesn't like eve-online.com. --
Yeah, so Caldari suck at close range. Pity you'll never get there.

LMAO Firefox and adblock doesn't speed up the image server...
Spybots hosts file blocks thousands of know problem domains and hell the google toolbar popup blocker works better than adblock.

What the heck are you taking about?
Spybot blocks phishing sites. The EVE image server is not a phishing site.
The google popup blocker blocks popups, but I am not looking to block popups.
Adblock can block the slow-loading EVE image server that makes the forums go slow as hell, by blocking "http://img.eve.is/serv.asp?s=64*" (If you only block img.eve.is you can't use the My Character sheet).
P.S. Firefox blocks popups and phishing sites without any extra addons or plugins. Oh, and the reason why the image server makes your browser go slow is because you haven't set it to use more HTTP requests at once--so when it starts downloading the images, it hangs up on them and won't do anything else. Which is what the Fasterfox extension is for.

Edited by: Dotar Sojat on 28/12/2006 15:54:48 Cool Beans, didn't know the character sheet used the image server but I don't use the character sheet anyway. Editing the hosts file works for me.
p.s. The My Character sheet (http://myeve.eve-online.com/character/skilltree.asp) doesn't use the image server bro, just checked. |
