Yes, sorry didn't clarify that. But are there two-sun systems?

Edited by: T'Pau on 28/11/2003 10:11:33 No, there are no binary sysyems in EVE.
If you ever played Frontier: Elite II, in that game the attention to detail was superb, they had binary systems, every planet, moon, and any other celestial body in EVERY solar system had their own unique orbital motion around the sun. There were ringed planets like Saturn, you could land on every planet or moon. It had proper collision detection (no flying through planets and stations). You had to actually fly your ship into a docking bay of a spacestation (non of this insta dock rubbish in EVE).
All that in a game written for a 16 Bit Computer 12 years ago. Why CCP didn't include a fraction of what that old game did I'll never know.
Oh, well. Guess people are more interested in eye candy more than attention to detail these days
I still love EVE though

Stargates only go to those systems which are habitable. Binary (and trinary etc) systems tend not to have habitable planets due to their non-eliptical orbits. So, no binaries in Eve.

A plausible explanation only if you don't look too hard. On economic grounds, stargates are going to be built to those systems to exploit the asteroid etc. resources to be found, and stations are going to be built there to process them. If we were going to get to that level of realism, I'd expect to see all the food corp production stations in inhabited systems, and the sales stations in the uninhabitable ones to feed the miners; and the industrial corps, vice versa, to provide goods to the people.
Most likely, the people who wrote EVE either didn't have much knowledge of real-world astronomy, or - more likely still - chose not to base the game upon real-world astronomy to make the programming easier.

There's not rotation of bodies around other bodies so there's no reason why they couldn't drop in binary or trinary systems, gas giants or bodies with rings.
I'm might be mistaken but didn't the Elite games generate a planets terrain randomly. That would be a bit of a problem with a MMO when 2 or more people were on the same planet.
I agree though. Systems could be much more than just places to move your ship around in.
Hopefully future events will more than just organised combat and involve stellar phenomena. CCP have been a bit short sighted if they didn't include the abillity to create events like that.

There may well be astronomical phenomena added to EVE in the future. I've seen screen shots of rogue comets from BETA I think, and there are files relating to black holes within the .stuff files too.

Edited by: Ker Avon on 28/11/2003 12:19:58 Has anyone actually took the time to warp out to a sun in EVE? I've been playing for a few months now but only recently flew out to the sun in my home system, the attention to detail there is incredible! Plasma streams, prominences, solar flares - the lot! Quite impressive.
I think CCP should add a feature in where you can fly through the outer corona of a sun and scoop up plasma and rare elements using a 'fuel scoop' (Elite anyone?) and take it back to a station. This stuff could be used for manufacturing purposes. I'd make a change from staring at an asteroid everyday!
Its a shame the suns in EVE aren't utilised enough - they've obviously put a lot of work into the graphical/physical detail of them. I bet the majority of players in EVE havn't even seen one up close yet!

Edited by: Indigo Seqi on 28/11/2003 12:14:11 Isn't it so that only binary starsystems can support a stargate? I thought I read that somewhere in the background stories. That would also be the reason why there are bright clouds in every systems, there is another sun behind it. I would seemr rather unrealistic to have over 5000 binary systems in EVE though :)
Edit: Well I looked around a bit and guess what?

elite and frontier i loved them games. i was hopeing eve was going to be a multiplayer version of this and it has the basics just needs more implimented. i would like to see binary systems though they would look so beautiful and maybe the odd trinary systems. also does anyone ever remember the super giant stars from frontier?? there was one in Hadar. i managed to get to that system once the size of that sun was very scary. felt very insecure going near that thing. it had a lot of oxygen atmosphere planets orbiting it though although thy were hundreds of AUs away from the star. ----------------------- ╔╤╗╒╕╔╕║║/ ║│║╘╛║╘╝║\ ----------------------- |

yes, looks like all the systems are binary, only I guess the other sun is two far away to see.. :?

I suspect it's due to Tyrion's extra long binary word above
There are 10 sorts of people in the world - those who understand binary, and those who do not. |

Binary star system make up more than 50% of all star systems in real universe.
It is rather strange that none of 5300+ systems in EVE universe is binary.

Yeah my thoughts exactly..been asking round for this but apart from a sun-like eve-new-eden-gate this universe is totaly devoid of binary stars Owner of a Lonely Heart |
