Hey, I need some help on my Thorax setup. It'll primarily be used solo, but there'll definitely be used in gangs too. I'd prefer if it was focused more on damage than tanking. I honestly cannot decide what to use for my high and low slots, but I know i'll need a webber, a warp disruptor, and a MWD for the mid slots. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

For solo work I prefer a heavy electron II in highs, 1x sar II 1x 1600 plate 1x rcu II 1x dcu 1x mag stab II.
Small gangs usually a 800 plate, small rep ion fit. If I really need dps I go for 5x heavy neutron, 3x mag stab 1x rcu 1x dcu lows.

Depending on your fitting skills and as u said you want more gank than tank:
HI: full of named med neutron/ion blasters (maybe dish one for a small/med nos MED: mwd, web, scram (7.500m) LOW: 2 mag stabs, 1 med rep, rest fitting mods/tank/another mag stab.
5 valkyries
There you have it, the gangkarax ;-)

high: 3x the best named small blasters you can get 2x best named med nos you can get
mid: best named mwd you can get best web and scramble you can lay your pirate hands on
low: 1600Rolled Thung.(or was it 800 ugg been so long i cant remeber) Med rep (agian Best named) as many Mag stabs as you can fit.
drone bay mix of meds and lights
Used that setup many of times. Works great. ----------------------------------------------- ok ok

T1 version of the t2 electron fit: 5x Modal Electron Particle Accelerator I
Y-T8 Overcharged Hydrocarbon I Microwarpdrive X5 Prototype I Engine Enervator Faint Epsilon Warp Prohibitor I
1600mm Reinforced Rolled Tungsten Plates I Reactor Control Unit I (probably need good skills, need skills + T2 RCU for t2 electrons) Small Armor Repairer II Armor Explosive Hardener I Armor Kinetic Hardener I
Hints: - use good drones. My personal pick is valkyrie I (or II's) - substitute the small rep for a magnetic field stab (or hardener) if you have friends with rep drones or stuff.

i would pretty much go with ponieus's post......... small turrets / 2 named nos and it was 1600 plate get in as fast as you can hit em with the sml turrets screws up the optimum ranges and 1600 plate will tank for a long time with the 2 nos powering your armor rep :D

Why not fly a Maller if you arent getting the bonus from the small blasters?
Its marginally slower [5 m/s] has an extra low and an extra high for an EAN and extra blaster.
You will have less cap, but the 33% damage increase from guns[fit 4+2 nos] should make up for the loss of drones and you will tank ~66% better. ---------------------------------------- Thou Shalt "Pew Pew" |

Nooooo!
I swear I want to kill small children every time I see that setup. One of my corpmates (Yes TheJacko, I'm looking at you...) uses that same setup and it winds me up. What's the point of the uber damage bonus to med hybrids it gets if you're going to ignore it completely and fit frigate guns? Go for 800 plate and electrons or 400 plate and ions and make use of that tasty bonus.
The very same corpmate refuses to fit a microwarpdrive (or even an AB!!) to his T2 blasterthron... ----------- Join channel 'Turby' or die! (bring pie) I <3 carebears on toast ^^ - Xorus I'll trade you some carebears for some sheep -Tirg

Thanks guys for the posts, but I think my hardest decision right now is actually just my high slots. I agree with the other posters saying not to use small blasters, and I agree with them. My Medium Hybrids and Gallente Cruiser skills are kinda high, and I don't want them to go to waste. If I really want better tracking, i'd get in another ship.
What I can't decide is how many Noses should I use. I've heard SO many different things about this. Some people say they never undock a Thorax without 2 Noses, some people say 1, some say none (I haven't heard of 3 Noses o.O ). I honestly just don't know. So, what's everyone opinion about that?

Well main problem about med guns on rax is that you cannot fit them with proper tank, 1600mm plate + med repper + 3xhardener. About noses, 1 is all you need to run guns even against heavier nossing on you, just need to sync nos with guns. What i'm using and i think its REALLY stable fitting, you got gank, you got tank and tackling=]
4xlimited blasters 1xkneave/ghoul nos 1xmwd 1x20km scram 1xweb 1x1600mm tung place kin/therm/explo n-type.
Its cheap and reliable setup, not many cruisers can kill me in that ^^ ----------------- My english bad, F1, F2, F3, F4...

I am usually a big fan of using the ship's bonuses to the max. A medium-blasterrax is a very nice and effective setup. However, sometimes there are very good reasons to fit the Rax with frig guns/big plate. For example, if you don't have high Medium Hybrid or Gallente Cruiser skills, but can use T2 small guns well (Small Blaster Spec 3 or 4), a setup with 4-5 Light Neutron IIs + MFS will handily outdamage the typical Heavy Electron setup. In some cases, the small gun setup is preferable just because of the tank advantage alone. I use a small T2 gun/1600mm plate setup to rat Sansha battleships (up to 1.7 mil variety Lords), and I have yet to be killed by these rats. I have tried a medium blaster setup for that purpose before. Sanshas were dying marginally faster to bigger guns, but I had major trouble tanking even the triple 800 K spawn. An added advantage of small guns is that most of the time I can summarily own the odd inty or AF pilot that decides a "noob" cruiser is easy prey. Small blasters do less raw damage than medium ones, but their faster tracking and better signature resolution can save your day in many situations.

when you gank you pick your target so np using med blaster instead of small one you can try also to skill for ecm drones (not a long path) they can be very usefull when you go for a big target or your prey call back up

tbh the thorax is a bit crap solo, 5 small blasters dont have the dps and 5 med blasters ruins your tank(unless electrons).
if you want to really kill things quick in solo make sure you are the one to engage the combat and use the following setup.
5 med neutron (t2 if ya can) mwd, webber, scrammer 2/3 damage mods, repper II, dcu II (bit expensive) and eanm II if you have the room. 5 hammerhead II ( or valks.. hammerhead II are more effective) ---

oh main thing about that setup and pirating is you choose your targets so against a vexor or other cruiser it should be really effective. ---

[HIGHS] 3 x Small ION T2 Blasters 2 x Med NOS
[MIDS] 1 x MWD 1 x Scram 1 x Web
[LOWS]
1 x 1600mm plate 1 x SAR II 2 x HArdeners 1 x RCU (I need to get Adv Weapon Upgrades :P)

WTF? if i was him i'd kill u for posting that lol.
he doesn't use a propulsion mod on a b'thron? lmao even an ab is silly imo but none is nubbish.
have to disagree on the rax tho. light neutron II's work very well actually with much better tracking and still decent damage and 1600 plate, medium rep and medium nos pwns on the rax.
i'm still in shock over TheJacko

Depends, if you've got a friendly cov ops providing a warp in point, then as long as you've got enough web on the target I guess you don't need the propulsion mod.
Crazy for sure, becuase if you get caught at the wrong range you're screwed, but would allow for easier fitting.

yeah definately nice on the fittings but jees. i'd be ashamed if i lost me mega to a frickin cruiser just because i couldn't get close to him

Try using 1 Multispec ECM and 5 ec-300 drones. If a single rax can break its tank then that will jam it.
