well this is what i oftend hear people saying or trying to convince me about...
well i really can figure out where all these so called mature people are?
i mean almost every tread i read i see more retarded childish post then mature wellargumented descussions...
there is far more wiening and wiening about wieners and flaming etc on the eve forums then in any other online game i have seen (which is around 6-7)..
there is accually alot of good idears and treads on the forum too, but it only takes around 3-4 answers before it gets to the same as most other post on eve:
"flaming, provoction, wiening about wiening, nontopic related, etc"...
i mean how can a community that should be primary full of mature people be so immature and childish in their behaviour?!
well just a little thought of mind...
i am pritty sure some will nord when they read it, others will properly flame it and some will wiene about me "wiening".. (apparently any kind of point out in this community is considering a wiene)..
well any thoughts you might wanna add??

Well it is a whine of sorts, but I agree, although I doubt I'm helping the situation much any more, I'm getting a bit bitter. Been here too long.
Although I must say, that it's always been that people with bad ideas get shot down fast. And well I do that too, mostly cause some of those bad ideas have been posted atleast a dozen times if not more.
Reading how CCP should stop developing EVE, and just bugfix for isntance, is a bad idea, and it keeps popping up again everytime there's a particulairy annoying bug. And having a mature discussion on bad ideas, well... it's just not effective time management. ;-P

I got to disagree tbh.
Threads that get flamed or hijacked are mostly whining threads, since when you check the forums now and then during the week, and that for multiple weeks, you just see the same things coming up again and again.
Even if it is a good idea, there is only so much you can say about it, hence people not able to look for an already existant thread get flamed.
What I kinda agree with is that there are more of those "whining" and repetative threads nowdays, but with a lot more people playing, and more of the "average" mmorpg-player being in EVE, thats a pretty normal thing to happen.
Add to that the fact that in 80% of the cases those people populate the GD forums for example, that do have something they think is worth whining in a thread about, you get your high numbers of whines.

I find it amusing that you are whining about people who whine ;)
The forums have always been plagued by annoying whiners, but the majority of the players are realatively mature and you have to realize that most of the players donŠt post or even visit the forum on a regular basis.

You know why they are on the forums dont you. They are losers. They complain in RL and no one listens to them. They come here and they are ignored.

While it is true that the majority of the eve community is more mature than most mmo communities, the forum's aren't truly representative of the community at large, probably even less than 10% is clearly represented here. The very nature of the forums tends to attract the more childish elements due to the fact its a fairly unregulated medium with is globally visible. I.e. whine here and you perhaps get 100 people reading a thread, whine in game perhaps less than 10 people pay attention. The key thing to remember is most childish winers in mmo are pure attention seekers, and there is simply one way to deal with them ignore them, if they don't get their fix by people paying any kind of attention to them including negative attention they will simply go else where.

Some people are seriously tired of all the whines of ignorant n00bs (no, I don't mean new players, but people that can't be arsed to read and learn before complaining) that want an I-Win button. Therefore those people flame the whining n00bs.
I admit I'm one of those people that are tired of all the whining, hence you can find me flaming said n00bs from time to time. If it makes you feel better, the EvE community will continue to decrease in intelligence and maturity as long as EvE keeps growing.
A few more years and the EvE community will have evolved from a small, tight, well articulate bunch of rocketscientists to a large, divided, 1337-speaking whinerfest. Sometimes I wish we could go back to the first few months of EvE with the community we had back then, eventhough 5k players online was a record at that time.

I don't sign this but this is close enough to truth so I can accept this version.
What I believe though that since EVE has a lot of young adults playing it (25-35 year olds) what we are seeing is the simple fact that games are meant to relieve stress and provide entertainment. If you have a job in which you are supposed to be nice to everyone no matter how dumb they are I hardly doubt you can keep that up when logging in.

To the OP, I have to disagree alot, I have played other MMO's and EVE forums have ben by far the most mature and helpful I have ever come across(consider the size of the game too).
But saying that you will always get people in every game that are/act immature but they are in the minority and from what I see a small minority at that, maybe you have just ben unlucky with replies to your posts. g/l.

It wasn't like that 2 years ago, it got worse over time with one sentence troll posts and uncalled for flames.
CCP releasing half-baked game systems and being slow at fixing things doesn't improve the boards neither.
About the whines, don't forget most who post here are rather passionate with the game, which leads to rather hot comments, it's the ransom of success

Back on topic though... EVE generally has a higher average maturity level for the players than most MMO's. Sure you might run into a few "1337-speak" kids once in a while, but as a game grows in population, that's bound to happen eventually.

Yeah, EvE forums are great when you compare them to other MMOs like WoW. 
In my experience DDO has a way better community though, but that goes to the fact that it's a really... small game, i guess. And here we can see another problem of eve. Devs actually listen to the people. When devs listen, whiney people get the feeling they have the right to tell them what to do and expect more and more. It's a never ending circle of whining when the devs show willingness to listen.

Three years ago when the number of people on-line at anytime was 3000, you could make the statement that the Eve community was mature. For the most part they were.
With the low penality and risk for non-concentual PVP and the high penalty for victims, Eve has become a magnet for the gaming communities sociopaths. Why get hassled by GMs in other games. Go play Eve where bad behaviors is not penalized, it is encouraged.

Game forums have always had a stigma, a well earned one, of being the worst place to go for well thought out discussion. This is especially so in general, off-topic forums. People get frustrated, confused, drunk, or flat out don't bother to put any thought into an issue and get the crazy idea that if they yell and scream about it on the forum employees of CCP/Blizzard/Sony/Valve/NcSoft/et all will swoop down from on high to take immediate care of their concern.
I would imagine that this behavior could be compared to the consumer who when finding a garment at a shop that they like, only to learn that the shop does not have it in their size, berates and verbally assaults the nearest retail clerk for not being able to magically procure at that instant a garment in their preferred size.

I have to disagree with this. I would say as a whole, a hard core pvper is more mature than most of our hard core carebears. Some people just seem to forget its a game, and a game to get shot at in.

No community is accurately reflected by the forums of said community. Judge any game by the game, not the forums. Just as you should not judge radio talk-show listeners views by the callers the show gets, you also should not judge a game by those who use the forum. Most players NEVER post here, and a surprisingly large number probably never COME here at all.
1. Visit any other online game forum and you will see an immediate difference in tone, maturity, and education level of the participants.
2. Monitor in-game chat of these games and the differences become obvious.
3. Compare guild-life in other games to corp-life in Eve. Laugh at the stark differences.

Well every game is going to have representatives from each end of the spectrum. I guess it's more a matter of what the averages are. I mean, these are games we're talking about.
And forums of any nature, let alone game related, seem to suck the maturity level out of most that post there. That whole "speaking your mind with no real consequences" thing the internet has brought about does wonders for the maturity level. EVE might be a little better in that regard since your forum identity is tied to your game identity. Of course, alts don't help there (and no, I'm not an alt! ><).
As far as the game goes, I think EVE is inherently a more mature crowd simply because the game isn't an instant gratification sort of game. And patience and maturity are, in very broad generalizations, usually closely tied.
