For the past 3 days now EVE has said "Checking status..." and I have been unable to get any farther than that. No idea where to start troubleshooting this one.

ok. what did you change about 3 days ago? router (which one) ? new firewall? did you patch your client with the optional patch and forgot eve to go trough the firewall?

do somethign weird.. switch off your router for a minute if its a dsl like connection, it will negotiate new.. over time the conenction deterriates
also your router could have "too many connections" and partially "shutting down", a quick powerflip will fix that, give it a try :)

Done. Problem not fixed.
Any further ideas? I appreciate your help. I normally do tech support for people, so I have a general idea of what I'm doing, but I'm stumped at the moment. Reinstall the client? Thats my last resort. Any ideas before I try that?

tbh, if you clear your cache AND your cache\browser\img\*.* and your capture\*.* folder and it still nto working then i dont think a reinstall might help your client might got blocked from firewall or so but i dont think that.
i could randomly say "problem might be level3.net atm" and point to this Thread but iam somewhat clueless now. from germany it goes straigth to iceland without problems, not sure what your routing is

Ok I just "re"installed the client. I downloaded the EVE client from the site (Eve Download to the left). Installed it to a new spot, so I still have my old AND new installs.
New install, when ran, said incompatible build. So I closed it and reopened it. Now its doing the same thing as the other one, saying "checking status...".
I just tried eve on my laptop and it works fine. How odd.
Why does my install that has been on eve for months work, but the even older install, and the newest install, not connect from my main computer. Both run XP. Nothing has been changed on either of them.

Man I can not believe no one listens to good advise.
I have posted this many times in other posts:

Edited by: Cc2iscooL on 31/12/2006 05:24:09 Stop being paranoid. Any self sufficient user should be smart enough to know that they need a firewall with strict rules (whether it be software or hardware, both is the best protection) and then a good virus scanner...also helps to keep your system software updated in case of security holes, etc.
Anyway, posting the first three hops is not going to kill you. Even if you don't give out that information "hackers" (note, real term = *****ers, hackers are people who supply fixes and good information to people to help them lock down their servers, the media have ruined this term) can still get your information if they really wanted to. More than likely a person wanting to exploit your computer will have you download a file from a website with a trojan or other such virus, or even possibly a keylogger.
So stop being paranoid. A *****er is much more likely to attack a vulnerable dedicated server box than a home computer (unless they want something specific from you) due to the fact that dedicated boxes have a much bigger "pipe" than a home connection (usually), normally used to DDOS other servers.
Edit: Not sure why that word is censored...likely because it means to exploit software or possibly the game client...anyway...starts with a C, so you should understand from that.

Incompatible build was due to the latest client not being patched. Just patched it.
Still "checking status..."

If I click "news" on the login it opens up a little window with nothing in it, and nothing loads in it at all.
I downloaded EveMon and it tells me that Tranquility is online with 17000ish people on it.
Why cant I login to eve!

And this problem is unrelated to level 3. As you can see by the tracert, I have no problems with them.

1) Dynamic IP address don't mean ANYTHING unless you turn off and on your ROUTER not the PC.
2) Hackers is the term that stuck, doesn't matter what the "proper" term is (many people say "cops" but the proper term is "Police Officer"). A half way descent (improper term) Hacker can get past MOST commercial firewalls with ease.
You have to remember MOST players ARE NOT computer savy and do all the updates, downloads, reboots, patches and have the most current software. Alot of players use the default Windows firewall for gods sake.
PLUS
NO ONE posting here works for CCP Tech Support and that type of information is not needed anyways on forums. Where there is a will there is a way and no point making it easier for the bad guys to screw you over.

Working as an IT manager i dont recommend you give your ip address away then tell someone that you dont have a firewall running.
But thats besides the point. I share this problem - unable to connect. Both myself and my brother play eve on a regular basis and have exactly the same specification of laptops going through exactly the same gateway (router), his is fine, mine is not. i have tried just about everything. there is no specific rule in the router that would apply to my laptop and not my brothers, yet i still cannot connect. to resolve this problem i reinstalled my os and formatted the drive, which was fine for about a day and then the problem reoccured. i then upgraded the drivers for my network adapter, doulble checked that i have nothing running in terms of firewalls (including windows firewall). upgraded the firmware and chipset drivers for my machine, upgraded the firmware on the router. nothing seems to work. Sometimes it will say incorrect build - sometimes it will tell me the amount of players online, but then fail to connect.I have reinstalled the game twice, once over the top of the current install and again after removing the game. Maybe it is a registry item that is set incorrectly, i dont know. Also i am able to ping and tracert to the server with no latency issues. so whats the deal exact same spec machines? any ideas anyone?

I have had the same probelm for a week now. I have re installed my client and still the same problem exists. It seems i am not alone...
i lose connection and on reboot my client just says checking status. And yes i have done all the obvious cahce clearing excercises that seem to be ccp`s answer for everything. I am beginning to think this is not a local problem but something from ccp side as my connection to eve dies around 19.20 when the servers get at their peek. We all pay good money to play this game so CCP please get it sorted

Edited by: Rodj Blake on 25/01/2007 20:40:18 I've also been getting this over the last couple of days.
Once in a blue moon, I can connect though, but usually only as far as the Authenticating bar (which then times out producing this message: The server failed to respond to the client's secure-handshake request within a reasonable amount of time).
I've cleared the cache, and also done a new install. Neither of these have worked.
