I completely go own level 2 missions, with drones, more or less while making coffee or w/e,.. Most level 3 missions i have to run run run...
Yet I can group up with people, and do level 4 missions with 2 friends and its cake walk.
I'm flying a hurricane, fitted out with the best fittings i can buy, money not being an issue.
IMO there needs to be a lvl 2.5 mission set :D

Or you can do some research and see why you're getting pwned in level 3s. Everyone else seems to have no problem doing them in BCs so obviously there must be something you're missing.

You're not doing it right if you cannot do it in a hurricane. I can do them in a rupture. -=====-

You fly a hurricane and have trouble with level 3 missions ? --
Yeah, so Caldari suck at close range. Pity you'll never get there.

Remember to check the damage types you have to tank and set up your hardeners properly. I remember in level 2s I used exactly the same tank in every mission but in level 3s you really need to adjust your setup every mission. ------------------------------------ It's great being a Dev, isn't it? |

Higher resists they are too low.
Why not take the rat-a-lot Drake BC? For every level of BC you it give 3.5% or some such to all shield resists. Very easy to tank. Get a few missile skills and you'll be doing missions in your sleep. --------------

Edited by: ScreamingLord Sutch on 30/12/2006 00:44:25 So instead of you trying to improve to match the game, you try to get the whole game changed to suit you?
Bravo sir!
And just so you cant say I'm not being helpful: If a ship has a lot more low slots than midslots its a good indication it needs armour tanking.
Fit a medium repper and 3 rats specific ACTIVE hardners. Fit 2 cap power relays.
In the mids fit an afterburner, web and cap recharger.
Armour tanking is a bit scary if you are used to shield tanking but it's really very effective.

Since training for tech1 ships is WAY faster than training for weapon systems, all I think is it is your problem.
As Minmatar you eventually get missile skills and shield tanking skills. Getting caldari cruiser 3 is done in few days.
Take the right tool for the job, that makes thing way easier, you shouldn't be that stubborn.
Btw, I never regretted training for both Caldari and Gallente ships.

See Enmel's fit - that's exactly what I use. Except, I can fit a heavy missle launcher and an assault missle launcher instead of the standards. Maybe I have higher engineering skills or something.
Also, I use two tracking comps and one cap recharger.
As far as when you need to get out, if stuff starts getting hairy, I make sure I'm aligned. When my cap is getting close to dying, I warp out. Remember to call in the drones!

I run level 3 missions in an ishtar (Gallente drone hac) and find them mostly very easy...
imho the gap between level 4 and level 3 (solo that is) is huge... but then again, i still need to learn a lot :-/

Hey, you shouldn't be having a problem running level 3's in a BC, I used the Caracal for awhile running level 3's (whilst doing my Learning skills) with no problems. Granted, I was using missiles and range, but still, a BC has alot more survivability than any cruiser. I have to believe you just aren't beefing up your resists correctly or something.

i don't find that's the case really, but then i've got most engineering skills up to level 4, and i'm in a cyclone so i have a decent shield tank to be working with. as long as you're not overly weak to the damage type the rats are using (e.g in my case it's EM unless i have an EM hardner fitted - which i do) then you just need to check you're using the right ammo type. in my case again i use depleted uranium ammo because it's good all round stuff, and then every mission change which heavy missiles i'm using and which drones i'm using.
most level 3 missions can be comfortably done with no effort. there are few in which a hit-and-run tactic might be needed, such as the blockade, where you're looking at alot of battlecruisers and alot of missiles. of course, i was soloing that mission when it's designed for two or three people to run it.
i recently bought a drake, and man, are they tough. ========================================== Iy |

Kind of pointless to have 2 reps.
X6 650's scout/T2
x1 AB T2 X1 Tracking Comp named/T2 x2 Cap recharge named/T2
X1 Mar named/T2 x3 Harder's for rat damage type x2 Gyro's named/T2
Will 1 volly frigs and destroyer's easy 2/3 volly most curiser's.
Take 5 light drone's to deal with the odd frig that will make it in close.
Over all with the speed you can reach most ships will never make it close befor you destroy them simple and will own all lvl3.
Missile's can be used if you like but i found them a waste of time since the gun's just destroy any thing a lvl 3 will send to kill you. !

I run level 3's constantly in my Hurricane. I've got a total of 350k SP in Gunnery, 80k SP in Missles, 300k SP in Drones, and 900k SP in Engineering (shield skills). The only mission that even comes close to causing me problems is Mordus Headhunters. (Portal to War seems easy).
My 'Cane for level 3's. Quickfit puts me at about 205dps at 25k range with BC only at 3. (Counting drones)
6x650mm "Scout" Artillery 2x'Limos" Heavy Launchers
1x10mn Afterburner (T2) 1xTarget Painter (Named) 1xSensor Booster (Named) 1xCap Recharger (Named)
1xMedium Armor Rep (Named) 2xHardeners (Based on Rat type) 1xEnergized Adaptive Nano 2xGyros (Named)
4 Light Drones (T1) 1 Medium Drone (T1)
If I warp into a bunch of hostiles, I set a course away from them and engage AB. The drones pick off close frigates and the guns eliminate anything 12k+ away.
If I warp into hostiles at range I turn away from the enemy ships and engage guns to pull them towards me. Once they get within about 45k I start moving and only use the AB to keep the range between 25k and 45k.

I've gotta say, I rather enjoy level 3's in a battleship. The extra DPS from my thron makes them go faster, and I'm not so worried about popping. (Excpet lvl 3 Mordus Headhunters, those pumas spam incredible dps for Caldari ships)
Then again, I have an insane hatred for the Gallente Battlecruisers. And the feeling seems to be mutual, the things cannot wait to blow up to get out from around me ---------
