If the pilot isn't intensely stupid, a mothership or titan can't be killed period.

Couldn't they just keep killing any ship that generated a cynosural field? The mothership/titan would eventually die wouldn't it?

It can still warp, and there's no way to prevent it doing so. --------------------------------------------------------------------

No cap = no jumpdrive. IIRC they need 95% cap to make a jump?
Immunity to EW means you cannot scramble them, but mobile or dictors bubbles should still stop them from warping, as will bumping (although there you'll need a nanophoon or two).

Unfortunately, they can jump to Empire, where a mothership/titan with smartbombs is completely untacklable.

They are stupidly hard to kill tbh. I can't believe tier 2 carriers and Titans are even allowed in empire. Seriously, what?!!?
In 0.0 its about using a combination of everything to kill one, bubbles, nos and loads of bumping BS. I can't see either shiptype ever dieing unless its too a crash or lag related issue.
They need to rethink how they work because pretty soon we're going to be inundated with invulnerable ships gatecamping in bloody Nalvula.

Not invunerable, come in with a big enough fleet into low sec and nada can stop them from blowing up.

Edited by: Kyria Timeyu on 30/12/2006 11:45:47 - Officer smartbombs give immunity to dictor bubbles, and there are many more officer smartbombs than motherships. - Bumping only works against warping, not against jumping. They are so massive that you need an extreme amount of bumping to bother them. - If it jumps/warps to a POS, it's completely immune there for as long as theres stront in the tower.

The Mothership/titan can use officer 10km smartbombs to instablast away bumpers and bubbles. The Mothership, if stuck in a dictor bubble and unable to smartbomb it, can simply anchor a small warp bubble to cancel it out. If he is stuck in a mobile bubble, we will log in the dictor alt to drop a dictor bubble to cancel that out.
Of course in low sec, there are no bubbles :) --- Slot 10 Akemons Modified 'Noble'Zet 5000 implant +8% Armour FREE |

They just jump out. You'd have to entice them into a fight they think they can win until you've reduced their cap adequately then bring the fleet in. Once you've done that you've got to hit them with the bumping BS constantly and cyno in your own capital ship fleet. It's possible in theory, I doubt it'll ever happen though.
If you can't see that there will be a major problem in low-sec in the near future then you need to remove the bag from your head.

As a mothership/titan is so big, does that mean the 10km smartbombs have like a 50km radius? If the mothership is 30km around, doesn't the 10km smartbomb then hit like a 40km radius? is that how it works?

That depends on what you classify as a kill. Goonswarm and 3rd Front Alliance destroyed a Serpentis Nyx that was part of an Aurora Event when it was transiting through Syndicate on its way to Solitude.
A Concord Fleet made up of cops and players were supposed to stop it. The players ended up lynching the Concord pilots when the promised Nyx didn't arrive.
Dark Shikari could reveal more details about the event in question as he was part of the player fleet working with concord.

NPC motherships don't count because they dont use all their abilities to run away. And the Establishment still has theirs. And Cyvok only lost his because he can't count to 15.

Killing motherships cap so that it cannot jump is easy. But reports state that bumbing it with BS has practically zero effect and officer smartbombs have over 17km range from the center of the ship. So getting it with dictor bubble will be quite hard.
Dropping a small bubble to get out would not probably work as any fleet that can kill MS can kill that bubble easily before it is anchored.
Basically I'd say currently MS is impossible to kill in low-sec (unless pilot is very stupid, for example decides not to warp away) and practically impossible to kill in 0.0 if it is supported by gang of 5+ competent pilots.

When flown by skilled pilots, and with a skilled support fleet, titans and mother ships should not be destroyed. That is, unless someone makes a big mistake...
A skilled corp (the type that would own such ships) wouldn't deliberately use such valuable assets in a way that risked their destruction.
Then again..... maybe some would.

Well it was flown by a real person. A member of the Aurora event staff. But I'll concede the point anyway. It wasn't an actual player with real assets on the line.
