Edited by: Chloe Alderan on 28/11/2003 21:24:22 Well I already reported the bug with 1246 but 1253 didn't change anything so here it is again. I wish I could get at least an aknowledgement from the developpers because when the patches become mandatory, I (and a few others I believe) won't be able to play EVE anymore.
So this what I get when I try to launch the game.
I actually have to minimize EVE to see the window. I have an overcloked Athlon XP 3000+, 512 dual DDR 400, 2x80 Gb ATA133 RAID, Ti4600 all of that on a Gigabyte motherboard (GA7N400 pro 2 bios flashed to version 12). The RAID controller is a gigraid using a ITE IT8212 chip.
It seems from the previous post that other people with a RAID array had the same problem. I tried to change my BIOS settings to the most conservative settings (including no overclocking) and tried to run EVE from a 3rd non RAID harddrive with no success...
Oh last but not least, my PC is very stable. Never crashes, not any problem with any games or software (inclucing benchmarks and burn-in software I used to tune the system when I built it recently).

We acknowledged the problem; we have not been able to reproduce it here locally. We will not make the patch mandatory with this issue open.
Your theories regarding RAID, coincide with what we have gathered, there seems to be a common trait among the players that have problems to have a "special" hard drive configuration. By special I mean something other than one C: hard drive and one D: CD-ROM, we are looking into how on earth that can make a difference.

Thanks a lot for the reply. It sincerely makes me feel better to know you are on the case. I was affraid only a few of us were affected, bumping the bug to the bottom of your todo list.
You are correct my setup is D:\RAID 0 main HD, C:\data HD, E:\CD-RW so it fits the pattern.
Thanks again for taking the time to put together a quick reply.

I got the same problem. I found that if I put a Compact flash card in my reader, the problem goes away. Check to see if you have either a Smart Card reader or Compact Flash on your system.

Albert Camus once observed, "Integrity has no need of rules." The converse is also true: The degree of integrity is inversely proportional to the number and complexities of rules and bureaucracy. |

ahh since 1253 i have been getting an error, asking for the eve-exe disk to be inserted into drive e: Never an issue before, but for the first time yesterday i plugged a usb digicam into my machien and it assigned the drive for it a h:. Not altering any of the previous drive as they are all forced letter assigned. Yet the issue would appear to be related, albeit a different error msg, to cards and flashes etc.

I bet this is not EVE problem, more like operating system bug.

I get this error--but NOT with either of my two Eve installs. One Eve is on C and the other is on E. Neither is on D.
I do get it with "Jedi Academy", which is on E. I don't get it with "Kotor" which is on E.
Go figure :)
I have one of those fun little Compact Flash readers, and Eve predates the install of that thing. The "jedi academy" came after. Hmm.
Anyway, not an Eve bug. It's a Microsoft bug. Eve patch version certainly hasn't changed my sit, anyway.

I've been experiencing the same problem as the first post since the post1238 patch. I took the advice of previous posts and changem my cd drive to a random ketter (:N) and changem my smartcard reader to :k. Restarted windows to complete the changes and it works!.
thanks for the advice, i'll check back later if anybody wants me to publish my system specs to compare. ----------------------------------------------- |

But anyway, unplugging my Smartmedia card reader did the trick for me. I wonder why it started with 1246 but at least there is a workaround (playing with drive, especially card readers) until CCP finds where it comes from.

PuppeteeR,
Somewhere I remember seeing the exact details as to what changed, however I forget where that post was.
I think it had something to do with it calling for some pictures or files at the wrong locations.
I'll let you know if I find that post again.
