I don't know about you guys, but I find the accelerate and decelerate nav commands to be unweildy. I mapped them to my mouse 4 and mouse 5 to try them out. On my executioner no-prop it was something like a painfully slow speed change of about 50m/s. That's about 11 clicks to get from zero to my max. The speed change itself was not nearly fast enough to be useful in a frigate fight. I tried it with prop, and it seemed to keep the same scale (11 clicks) with the same rate of change.
I tried hitting full speed then stopping it at the speed I wanted with decelerate. I don't know if it is set to an RNG or what, but it wasn't working out
This shortcut is not a shortcut, and I want it to be.
Assuming that the server tick system cannot deal with a smooth motion using the mousewheel to change speeds, the next best thing would be to replace accelerate and decelerate with gear-up and gear-down.
Give players the ability to choose around 6 points in the throttle to switch between to manually drop and gain speed quickly.
I could set it up so 6 clicks gets me evenly through the powerband. If I hit full throttle with my mwd and drop down one gear, I could go from 3600 to 3000. I could switch between 1200 and 1800 to keep just out of range of an ab frigate while staying close enough to keep him chasing me.
Yes, we can already do this with the mouse, but I've got a bunch of buttons. I want to use them.
Tl;dr: I want more shortcuts. Specifically one to quickly switch between around 6 throttle levels. |

You do know you can double click on the speed gauge to set whatever % of thrust you need, right? |

Mechwarrior 3 had 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,0 for 10%, 20%, 30%, etc throttle.
Should be easy to do for EVE.

Outside of bait situations, why would you ever want to go at any speed less than max?
If you say "to prevent bumping" then you need to learn how to time your movements better (hint: when doing a MWD approach, hit "orbit" on the Titan/Blops until your speed is down to a reasonable level... then hit "keep at range (which should be set to 1000)).

I suppose it could be used to prevent bumping, hit the brakes and watch the stabber sail past you.
I was thinking as a way of rapidly dropping speed to make a tight turn, then throwing it back to full throttle to break an mwd orbit.
I was also thinking: kiting along at between -100 to +300 m/s of your target to keep him interested.
Or burn fast to a target, then drop speed to give your guns better tracking while you orbit. There are a lot of times when full speed hurts you you more than it helps. Outrunning your own tracking is no bueno.
Getting your opponent complacent with your speed and then throttling up another 800m\s is muy bueno.
I'd just like to see some more control over the ship. We technically already have it in the accelerate/decelerate hotkeys, but it is very poorly optimised. |
